Wow, I can't believe so many people are having this kind of issue! Glad I came across this forum. Will share my story thus far with you guys, its pretty long but I think the more detailed then the more other people with similar problems may be able to relate -

My problem started after masturbation. I'm 28 and (like all guys) have been masturbating for years without any issue. This time though, Ejaculation was as normal, but then I noticed a kind of stinging pain along the left side of the penis (more towards the back end of it and not the front end). Thought nothing of it, noticed after showering that the 'burning' sensation you usually get in the testicles after ejaculation still hadnt gone. By now it was almost the end of the day and it was still there. Was a little concerned but still just thought I'll wait until the next day.

Went into the office the next day for work and noticed this uncomfortable burning sensation still hadnt gone, and decided to leave early and go to a sexual health clinic. Got examined (cough test included) and explained to the doctor what had happened, and he said its almost definitely a small muscle strain/tear in the testicle. So he suggested taking ibuprofen for a couple of days (yes... just a couple of days believe it or not) and come back in a week if the symptoms have not gone. So I did as he said, and saw no improvement, went again 1 week later and saw a different doc at the same clinic. This doctor also examines me and says the same thing- muscle tear/strain. I also gave a urine sample and it was negative. He says give it another week and if it doesnt go, then to go see my GP (I probably should have done this from the start, but getting an appointment takes longer). So I booked a GP appointment for a week later incase I needed to go.

So during that week, infact on that very evening after visiting that second doctor at the sexual health clinic, the burning sensation developed into a dull ache ('toothache on the balls')... so now at this point I'm getting really concerned. One thing I noticed is the left testicle looked rather red and was dropping A LOT lower than the right testicle particularly if I squatted down. Another symptom I noticed was occasionally a strange pulling/light pain sensation on the extreme lower abdominals. And also I noticed a slight stinging sensation along the left side of the penis when 'yanking the chain' to get those last few drops out after having a wee. So anyway I try some things like warm baths with epsom salts, putting ice on it etc and dont really see any improvements. By this point I'm starting to get anxiety attacks and depression from thinking about the problem waaay to much. Another thing I started to do was sleep with a rolled towel between my legs, because I cannot lay on my back and sleep for very long, and have always slept on the side. This helped eleviate pressure from the testicles (normally I just tuck em between my legs and go to sleep), but gave me muscle aches on my outer quads, lower back and hips.

So now its been 3 weeks since the problem started, and my appointment comes about with the GP and he says same thing (muscle strain/tear), only this time he says there's a small chance it could be epididymitis, but he still said to just give it some time and it should get better. He refers me to an ultrasound scan and says that will hopefully rule out any other issues. He also gives me a sick note for a week off work.

A couple of days later the testicles start to feel swollen and heavy, and the burning sensation (particularly at the back of the testicles) starts to come back, so I call the GP and he prescribes me cipro, for 2 weeks, incase its an infection. I take it for 2 weeks and only really see the burning sensation and dull ache subside quite significantly. So now I'm left with a 'discomfort' in the testicles (mainly the left one) where they feel bigger and heavier than normal, and I really feel the pressure and sensation that they are bieng squeezed if I even close my legs just a little bit, or even lean over whilst sitting. By this point I had switched to some athletic briefs for a bit more support and comfort. Also at this point I started to think if my mind was playing tricks on me or if the testicles have legitimately increased in weight and size.

So we are now at the 4 week mark, and there is just less than a week to go before my ultrasound scan. By this point, I'm suffering from all sorts of psychological effects (depression) that are causing loss of appetite, early morning awakening, muscles aches etc... all from worry. Situation is getting really bad. However... the pain and burning is pretty much gone... even the heavy/discomfort is starting to subside a tad. At the beginning of week 4, I have another appointment with the GP. I let him know the situation and he examines again and assures me the testicles are of normal size etc etc and starts telling me about CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) as a possible future option if I'm still suffering in a few months time. He also says that 6-8 weeks is just a generic estimate for how long muscle strains take to heal and can take a lot longer. Not really what I wanted to hear... especially since my WEDDING was coming up in 4 weeks time. He also suggested just ignoring the pain and discomfort and start to normalize my movements slowly as time goes on.

So my ultrasound day arrives and I'm having to take the train because of a last minute change in the clinic location. I'm sitting on the train and feeling slightly uncomfortable, and choose to ignore it. Possibly a bad mistake... because it triggered extreme burning and discomfort on the testicles once I had gotten up (after sitting for like an hour)... so slightly distraught, I get the ultrasound done and make an appointment to see the GP for the results after 1 week. During that week the burning sensation subsides again. But I'm still left with this very annoying feeling as though the testicles are now bigger, heavier and more sensitive than normal, which is causing a lot of discomfort. Luckily throughout all this time I'm simply working from home.

1 week later (so 6 weeks now) and the ultrasound shows normal blood flow, normal testicle size, no inflammation of epididimis. However, it shows up with a 4mm varicocele on the top-side section of the left testicle and a very small hydrocele on the top-side section of the right testicle. However, the doctor still says that these do not go in line with my symptoms at all and that its very likely that they were there from before my symptoms began. At this point, I have mixed feelings. He advises to give it a couple more months and see if there is improvement as he remains confident its still a muscle strain/tear. One thing he mentioned in one of the earlier appointments was that because the cremaster muscle (which he believes is the muscle most likely strained) contracts and relaxes on its own accord, this is what is causing a much more slower healing process than normal, and also the fact that every day movements (walk etc) cannot be avoided but obviously causes movement of the muscles attached to the cremaster muscle too, causing slower healing. So obviously with the wedding now just 2 weeks away, I decide to try and forget about the problem and not think at all about possible surgery to close off the varicecole (I'm not concered about the hydrocele for now).

So now its almost 8 weeks. I've considered seeing a physio/massage therapist, but the doctor actually advised against it. He said if the physio can give a massage to relax me, that might be a good idea, but he advised against any type of massage to try and fix the issue.

To conclude thus far, its kind of hard to tell what the heck is actually going on. I think a lot of it is in the mind, but a lot of it is also actually physiologically present. One piece of advise I would give to anyone having similar issues is try and regularly change the way you sit, stand, walk etc because otherwise this problem can lead to your other muscles becoming very stiff particularly in the morning.

I'm just gonna give it a couple more months and if i'm still being bothered (who knows, my body might adjust to the strange sensation that the testicles are bigger and heavier, and will see if the senstivity also subsides) by it, then I will consider seeing the doctor again to consider surgery of the varicecole. The only other thing I can think of is if it doesnt go back to normal in a couple more months, then seeing if the doctor would refer me for an MRI scan to see if the muscle simply isnt healing properly. But the fact that it can contract and relax still, makes me think its obviously not strained that badly.

Another strange thing I noticed throughout most of this ordeal is that the discomfort would increase at certain times of the day (in the morning and then in the early evening) and there is definitley a direct connection between mind and body because when I get worried about it, the symptoms definitely get worse.

I can definitely sympathize with anyone having testicular problems. Not really sure if my story matches anyone elses out there, particularly the cause of it, but just thought I would share.

This is great advice. It's been a while since we've heard how things are going? Have symptoms improved with those who tried stretching, better posture, etc? I've recently (over the past year) have had many bouts of dull pain in left testicle which later went through my lower back, and inner thigh. Just this past week, I went to an immediate care facility since I couldn't get into my doctor or urologist and they gave me a shot of ceftriaxone and 10 days of doxycycline monohydrate twice a day. This was a precaution of a bacterial infection and notice of inflammation around testicle. I'm also taking 1 Aleve a day to help with inflammation.

Had blood work done and urinalysis for confirmation, all of which came back negative for STD's/bacteria. My cultures have always been negative when my flareups happen.

I'm now experiencing mild to severe nausea and dizziness that comes and goes, most likely due to the antibiotic I'm taking. I hear it eventually gets a little better as the body becomes associated with it. Hopefully that's the case.

I'm curious to hear how the prognosis of others is coming and if there's been improvement? I hear your frustrations with this happening on and off frequently as I've been experiencing it too. Keep me posted! It's especially frustrating with no doctors have been able to help or find anything wrong.

Call me crazy fellas but, every time I have pain or discomfort with my testicles I ask my girlfriend to gently massage them while we watch TV together.  After a while, they feel so much better.

I am 27 and have had similar symptoms for almost a year. I have been in and out of specialist and dr. With no real answers. I noticed it one day while sitting like some one was squeezing my testicle. It was 10 out of 10 pain that night. I went to the clinic in the morning they did all the usual test and nothing. They did an emergency ultra sound. Wow talk about painfull i was in a heap on the ground a few times. Least the tech was smoking. They determined it was possibly an infection around the testicle because of the thickness of the skin. Bring on the antibiotics. A immediate change happend, so nice. But after four weeks there was stil the dull ball achyness pain. A week or so went by and suddenly bang to my knees i go. So happens i was staying near a uralogist clinic. Went over there another ultra sound no lump bumps, or extra coconuts. He said all was healthy but it might be inflamation from the infection. To some naproxin and it subsided a little but not enough to set my mind at ease. About another week went by and wow here we go again the pain was there constant pressure feeling radiating up my groin into my left abdomen. Stones, i thought it all made since. Nope urine test ultra sound and nope all is healthy. Dr says i am still thinking in is possibly prostitis. Here is 8 weeks worth of antibiotics that will make your body ach and might help. All dr said i need not be so hypervigiliant and stop thinking about it and it will go away. The urologist said if its inflamation then it will be there for a year or so and just take care of it. I am just finishing week one of the new antibiotic and no change, my testicle is soar, my groin is tender to the touch, my kidney area is tender. I am putting off seeing the dr as they all have stated that i need to be less hypervigiliant. I was diganosed with post traumatic stress syndrom after an on the job shooting, but i know my body and i dont think the problem has been adressed. Any ideas. Symptoms Left testicle pain, somtimes sharp other dull and tender to the touch. Left groin pain tender to the touch, radiats towards testicle. Left abdomine pain tender to the touch and constant pressure right above hip bone to the lower rib Left rear flank pain mostly muscle pain Left leg pain iside quad to knee. No pain on the right side at all

Just replying to this post because it was me who wrote it.

Figured I would post an update. Basically things are thankfully getting a lot better now. So I think its sufficient to conclude that it was indeed a muscle tear. I think my mind can still think about it at times and it can feel a little worse at those times, but generally everything is far better now. Infact what probably bothers me the most is the size of the testicles which I am still convinced have increased in size and still causes discomfort but only very minor and only with certain movements or positions I am lying down in.

So to sum up - be patient! It just takes a VERY long time for things to go back to normal when there is a problem in the testicles. I think my varicocele and hydrocele probably havent increased in size and still dont know if they are/were the cause of my symptoms. But thankfully as I say, things are a lot better. Im gonna give it even more time and see if I improve even more.

I had this same issue and still suffer from a dull pain here and then. I was under the sink fixing the trap and sat up, then all of a sudden it felt like some one grabbed my nutt from the inside and twisted it. I called the Dr and she was worried that I had it all twisted up in there. It was so painful I couldn't walk very easily. I went to the Dr. and they did a testicular ultrasound and found that I had a blocked vesicle and would require them to "cut the sac" . Basically they told me that I had a vesicle that carried blood to an area of my testi and gets swollen and blocked therefor causes severe pain. They can go in and cut it out and cauterize it if I want them too, but the pain has subsided a lot and I only feel it if I have crazy wild sex or lay a certain way on them or wash to hard. So I just take it easy. Good luck.. Go to the Dr. and get advise.

*Urgent* Dull uncomfortable ache/pain in Right Testicle (slightly higher than left and feels somewhat strained) Pain is worse when exercise is induced, simultaneous pain in right testicle and right oblique/ab with exercise/twisting/lifting.

HELP!

Long read, apologise in advance for spelling, grammatical errors.

Hi, my name is Aaron, I am a 19 year old male with a slightly higher/strained/retracted right testicle which is very very uncomfortable. It has affected my life physically, emotionally mentally and tested relationships with people in my life, it is a very frustrating injury which has gone on too long for a 19 year old. I got this injury in 2010 when i was just 15 years old. I have been playing competitive sports since i was around 8-9, soccer bust mostly basketball. I played for state teams in basketball at a high level for about 4 years and was very fit and active. I could run freely with no pain at all. In highschool in the first half of 2010 I started playing AFL which is footy but involves a lot of kicking (i wasnt used to all the kicking and overloading the right side of my body's muscles) i only played a for a few months while playing state basketball. This injury came out of n where after a basketball game when i got home. I took off my ankle guards and pants ready to have a shower but as i twisted my body slightly to take of the ankle guards i immediately experienced sharp pains simultaneously in my right oblique-abs and right testicle. At that time i felt the testicle rise up slightly giving me a very unpleasant feeling and sensation (numb/dull/dead) i experience to this day. I got it checked out thinking i had cancer being the young lad i was at the time. Dr said i had epiditymitis on the right testicle and was given anti-inflammatory tablets for about 1-2 weeks. i had hot and cold bathes whilst taking the tablets thinking it was some sort of strain, thinking it would go away in a few days, boy was i wrong. its been over 4 years and i have seen over 10 specialists and doctors and it has definitely taken its toll on me, earlier this year 2014, i also saw another urologist who said everything seemed fine, there was no testicular torsion or kindey stone or hydrocele or anything wrong with the testicle anatomically and functionally. everything seemed okay, but it didnt make sense with the pain i am experiencing, it still felt numb, weird, and just uncomfortable as if its strained or soemthing (hard to explain) i felt like a dickhead when he said i was fine, as if i was some liar.. it was bascally another just another kick to the balls... over the 4 years i have had countless apointments with physios which only seemed to make the pain worse when i did their exercises. (this pain can be greater when exericise is induced) i physically can not run at all without the pain in my testicle and gut/oblique. but yea i have had many MRI's, xrays, ultrasounds and they didnt pick up much until this year when i went down to Sydney - Australia ( i live in townsville norht queensland AUS) to see DR john Garvey who is a general diagnostic surgeon of the groin, best in his field. i saw him and got more scans down there and they picked up on alot of musculoskeletal problems. i had a large tear in the conjoint tendon, 6 stiches were needed usually they put in 4, but the tear was that big, also i had deterioration in one of the tendons in my hip or soemthing which was pain i started experiencing early this year. also somehting with the adductor and he took out the ilioiguinal nerve i believe. unfortunately my memory is foggy as i havent got a copy of the report. but yea i was issued to get a quadruple groin reconstruction. so i got that and its been a few weeks now, maybe 4-5 weeks now, and im still experiencing the same testicle pain i have had all these years which is very depressing. so i dont really know what to do at all... im only 19 and im studying sprt exercise science, trying to get into physiotherapy to learn about my injury but my knowledge is just too novice to treat soemthing not even the best doctors int he world cant figure out.. the only time i experience any relief is massage on my back, glute, oblique abs, right adductor, hammys and hip flexor stretches, i have very tight muscles from all the sport and kicking for AFL. however this relief is close to nothing, the only time i experienced full relief where my testicle literally drooped back down to its original position and relaxed was around 2011 where i had accupuncture on the right side of my body, oblique psoas trigger point areas, it was like a breath of fresh air and i felt a million bucks, for soem reason the accupuncture helped my uncomfortabe pain but only lasted till the car ride home. where it then shot up again and went back to the uncomfrtable position and since then i havent experienced that relief. i still see that accupuncturist from time to time but i havent had the same relief, i see him again this wednesday and hope to get ome needles in the oblique area which is tight. but yes these are all just theories, i think i have a tight deep muscle affecting a nerve (possibly one that innervates the scrotum /cremasteric muscle) thats why the needles worked cos they got deeper, i assume... but yes when i rub the inside of my right leg down to my knee my testicle retracts/jumps up and is just very sensitive as well. so yea thats about it, i cant do anything, its very frustrating and debilitating, was 85kgs at the time now i weigh 110kgs due to inactivity. but yea thankyou for taking hte time out to read this, i sound like a bit of a whinger/complainer but really im just a frustrated 19 year old who wants to play competitive sport again and fix this injury so i can focus on that and my career, but until then im going around in circles and its been very tough.. look forward to hearing from you guys, thanks so much :)

Could be a cancer lump in the ball area

At 27 years old, I had this similar pain for the past two months and I found a solution to my pain. It was gone in two days. Hopefully this works for you guys as well.

Symptoms:

1. Left Testicle hurt with a dull, nagging pain

2. Felt like a tube on the left of my penis base was clogged

3. Impotence

Medical treatment:

I went to the doctor and urine samples returned with a small amount of blood in the urine.  He diagnosed me with Epididymitis. I was prescribed Ciproflaxacin(antibiotic) and took it for ten days. The pain was still there.   When I returned with the pain, he said i might have minor testicular torsion and he ordered an ultrasound. The ultrasound came back normal with a minor hydrocele but nothing out of the ordinary. I was then referred to a urologist.

The urologist took another urine sample with nothing out of the ordinary. He said he believed I had a strained groin muscle and told me to not do any physical work and to elevate my testicles with a towel to keep them from hanging and to help them rest. After doing this for two days, it felt that my condition was getting worse, so I stopped doing this and proceeded to do my own research on the internet.

After hours of searching I found the solution to my pain. It seemed unreal and I was skeptical at first, but there are areas on the body called trigger points which, when hurting, basically send pain to another area of the body. There is lot of material available which has already mapped out these trigger points and pain areas.

I searched for the trigger point near my hip area and found the problem. The left side of my hip felt bruised when compared to my right hip.Solution:Before you try this go to the doctor first and rule out anything else. Could be cancer, an std, UTI, who knows. I tried this because they were basically telling me nothing was wrong with me.

Imagine a line from the point of your hip bone to the base of the penis. Starting from the hip bone, I worked along this imaginary line to the base of the penis, After moving about 3 inches from the hip bone, I felt a bruised area that mimicked(to a certain extent) the nagging pain I had been feeling when pressed. I massaged this area firmly with my middle and index fingers while laying down. Anything that felt bruised, I massaged. I would try this with my left knee bent up, laying flat, angled outward, any possible positions. After doing this for two days the pain and all the symptoms were gone. As often as I thought of my condition, I would massage it.

Do not massage too close to the penis, I believe there is a spermduct that runs along there and I wouldn't want to mess with that (search for images on the male reproductive system).

After you try this:  Let me know if this worked for you guys. I look forward to hearing success stories.

Edit: Ive heard some say that the epididymis, that tube that connects to the testicle, feels swollen or hurts.  If it feels like your testicles are being tapped on when your squeeze it, that is normal and not out of the ordinary.
