I am almost 5 years post op. Same problem. I saw a surgeon today that said it looks like an impingement caused by the cup . This typically causes pain th the groin...mine in rear. We're you successful finding a cause/diagnosis?

I'm not sure my guest comment posted. I am almost 5 months post op & while different, pain persists in the buttock region. Injections, blocks, tests. Today I was told the cup may be causing impingement. This typically presents in the groin. My pain & max discomfort remains in the region of my piriformis. Any luck, anybody?

Wow, I am so glad I found this site. I am 45 yrs old. I had my left hip replaced on July 2nd. I was doing so well. And still am? Ihave increased motion and almost no pain once I am up and moving. But, sitting is becoming unbareble! Right in the centeri of my left butt is so painfull! I have not seen the doctor since my 6 week check up. I am still taking pain meds 3-4 times a day. I have returned to work. I am a hairstylist. This has been so very frustrating to me. Also groin pain is a problem. I could use some encouragement. I have LCP of the right hip and a vascular necrosis in the left. I will eventually have tnab eve the right hip done also. I did finally make an appointment to sserious doc this coming tues. I just hope this is not something serious!

they have told me its my back too. i had my hip resurfaced in jan 12. i have a severely mal positioned cup. since then i have been in hell. my chiropractor, my massage therapist and my physical therapist have all agreed that the severe adduction this has placed my leg in is more than likely causing the chronic pain. it seems my quad femoris, piriformis and rotators are all effected. when i cross my leg past midline i get a sharp groin pain too. i can swim and ride my bike but cant walk. this may sound like a radical solution but im scheduled for a revision in 2 weeks to a THR.

I'm scheduled for revision to the acetabular component 11/8, with fingers crossed the misalignment has been the cause of my painful hip replacement of 2008. The original surgeon (& a second) never mentioned what the 3rd called a "mistake." Rendered diagnosis of nerve damage, piriformis syndrome, or "unknown". I'll post results after reasonable time to recover. Best to all & wishes for a pain free/drug free future.

Sadly mistakes do happen. FYI, there's a statute of limitations of 2 years in most states for medical malpractice, regardless of "when" you learn of the negligence. Exhaust all options before you reach this milestone.

wish you the best with the cup only solution. my surgeon used the largest component BHR makes. I have talked with surgeons from India to Belgium. Best i got was 70%
i have to convert
If you read the consent forms you probably are going to find out the surgeons have covered themselves
i sent the info to 3 lawyers and there was no interest

I have been told it is SI dysfunction. The therapist has been working on it. It is getting better. Just not fast enough for me! Thank you all for you comments. This site has helped me a ton! Hope you all have a great day!

I have since seen a consultant at the pain clinic, and he suggested injecting my sacroiliac joint in theatre, I also only have pain when weight bearing and sitting

My SI joint was also suspect. Injection, unremarkable. Wish you better luck. Keep posting.

Heading down that road as well. Had my hip done in Aug 2011 and I now get shooting, cramp-like pain in my left buttocks and I can't move for 20 seconds or so until it subsides. It usually happens after I move it the wrong way, like climbing off my bike. I have been told I am having a reaction to two of the three metals in the component alloy. Don't know if there's a connection yet, but there is also pain in the new joint. I had a fluid test done and it was "milky" in color, but no infection found. The connection piece will need to be replaced and I'm hopeful this will help these issues. Have you had the blood test done to see if you are having a reaction to the metals? It's done out of Chicago and is cutting edge. Just curious and appreciate hearing these other stories. I wish you well.

Same problem. Turns out the replaced hip was a inch to long. Doctor claims to have no idea on how it happened. Lawyers not interested in the case as you have to sue quickly. Recieving injections in the back. First one relieved all the pain and had a normal gait with lifted shoes. Relief lasted less than one month. Second shot did not help. Third coming up in two weeks. Tried everything suggested for four years- nothing helped but this one shot one time. Mean while the Hospital got rich off of physical thearpy, mri's, x-rays,accupunture and other, "tests".

I have had both hips replaced, 2008 and 2010. This week (after all this time) was taking a walk and got a very sharp pain in left buttock. Stopped and rested and went on. It happened again and again, and now it sometimes happens even when I am just sitting and doing nothing.

Anyone find out how to take care of this?
