I just stumbled across this and am hoping this is what I have. A year ago I had a lump in my groin, the docs did a few different tests with no conclusion, then they thought it was an infected lymph node, which may have even been caused by an insect bite on foot, but they could not conclude cause. It was very painful. Within a few days it increased in size to 2-3 inches and they said there was now an abcess there. By this point I could barely walk. I was referred to hospital and spent 3 days on intravenous antibiotics with no result so they operated. Since then I have felt the same kind of pain beginning again a couple of times (but no real obvious lump as such). Dreading what happened last time, I took some of my left over oral antibiotics straight away which seemed to put it away. To my horror, yesterday I can feel the pain starting again, and today getting worse. It worries me what it could be because they never really concluded the cause last time. Having just found this thread I'm hoping this be the same thing as being discussed here? At least then I would know it is quite common and it is not too much to be worrying about. Can you feel the pain before an obvious lump appears with this condition? Could it have been a cyst rather than an infected swollen lymph node?

Can groin cyst be caused by driving?

I have had these cysts often and I don't wax or cycle but I do drive so I think it may be the friction which does'nt help. I think the area we're discussing sweats more. I've had them cut out before but my doctor suggested that as soon as I feel one coming is to wash and pat dry the area and apply polysporin. I find this usually works very well. My friend also has had this problem and I told her about this and she says it has helped her a lot.

I think these cysts could also be brought on from driving b/c of limiting the circulation in that region of your body for several minutes (or hours) at a time. Also b/c when you're sitting for a long period of time, the area can get very warm and begin to sweat slowly so it's not very noticeable. After driving, I suggest rinsing off and going commando (underwear-free) for the evening.

I have been suffering with a similar condition for over 14 years. I have been through surgery, antibiotics, and lots of natural remedies with no long term relief. I get them anywhere from all over my groin area, to my stomach, and under my breasts. I used to get them on my tail bone which is called a pilonidal cyst. I was told by my doctor they were unrelated and went through a surgery to have the pilonidal cysts removed and they never came back. I wish it were the same for the rest of my trouble areas. I started to track when they started, how long they lasted, etc... I noticed they were worse in the winter and during my menstration period. I thought it was odd that they were worse in the winter because you sweat more in the summer. I started to look at the materials in my clothing and I noticed that 90% of my winter wardrobe contained Rayon. I stopped wearing clothes with Rayon and the cysts got about 75% better. I would still suffer during and after my mentstration period and I assumed that it was hormonal. Recently, I opened by linen closet and the tampon box was right in front of my eyes and low and behold, the tampons I was using contained Rayon fibers. I stopped using everything with Rayon and they have improved greatly. I also just found out that the same thing happens when I wear anything containing Nylon (bathing suits, excercise wear, etc). So far cotton and polyester clothes seem to be the only thing I can wear. The cysts on my stomach have to be coming from my underwear band and the ones under my breasts from materials in my bras. I also noticed that drinking a ton of water has helped since it keeps bacteria levels down when you urinate. I truly hope this helps others out there...If it does...keep me posted. I would love to know that I may have cracked the code of these truly painful cysts. Good Luck! Sincerely, a fellow sufferer.

I get these too and mine are very painful. I've found that using Neutrogena's "On The Spot" (a zit cream) gets rid of the pain in about 1 day and all the puss and/or blood (ew) within 3-4 days. I think it's about $5 at Target or the grocery store. It's worked for me almost every time.

There is a auto immune disease called Hidradenitis Suppurativa that causes painful cysts, or boils, in the groin area as well as armpits, inner thighs, anus, etc. Look it up. It is important to address the correct problem,

I had a cyst in the groin area and had it surgically removed. A yr later it appeared at the same spot. Doctor told me that it ws not so uncommon and advised me to get it removed again. I wonder if this will keep coming back. I hate surgery and its after effects.

It is kind of hard to find time to put warm compression on those cysts! On the very first sign of a minor cysts, I do warm compressions during the night for about 20 minutes. The day after, it has burst out, so then I squeeze it out. Then I immediately take a warm shower, do not apply any scented products on that area. After shower, I clean it again with alcohol wipes. Lastly, I apply either neosporin ointment or Vitacilina. Then, I try not to wear tight underwear/clothes to avoid irritation and pain. Use the ointment as directed, a few times a day until cyst disappear. I use the alcohol wipes every time before applying the ointment. I do this at least three times a day--in the morning, twice during the day, and at night. Hint: never skip a day of showering! and do not squeeze it out if it is not ready. Also, it might sound different, but recently I have prayed about it. As of now I don't have those ugly cysts. I will keep praying so they never come back.

It sounds like most here suffer from Hidradenitis Suppurativa.

It took me years to identify mine as Hidradenitis Suppurativa and my Dermatologist has prescribed low dose (100mg) of Minocycline which I took everyday for 90 days and now just keep a supply on hand which I use if a lump comes up.
I also use a spray of half water and half hydrogen peroxide thst I use to clean myself after bowel movements.
Both of the above have helped me and I rarely get the lumps now. When my lumps go away they leave a permanent scar that is dard in color. It is best not to try to squeeze anything out as that makes it worse.

I had my first one in 1975. I tried everything I could think of and nothing really worked. Doctors did not have an answer either until I moved and got a new doctor who prescribed minocycline. I take one twice per day at the first sign of pain. They never really surface now and are gone in a few days to a week. If one does surface....it too is gone within a week and never get terribly painful. I do have dark bruise like scars from years of no working treatment. One starts up about every other month or less now. A huge improvement.
