I have had these cysts for yrs. & yrs. Taking antibiotics helps but as soon as you go off of them, boom back they come. I used to go to the dermatologist every time one came up and she would lance it and drain it. I finally went to a surgeon and he dug deep and removed many of them. I ended up with 80 stitches. The dr. said that they would not come back in the areas where he dug them out but that they would come back in other areas. By the way, these were all in the groin area.....so painful. The dr. was right, they did come back in different spots. I've been looking for a cure for yrs. but I guess there really isn't one.

I had this same problem when I was in my teens -- hadn't ever shaved in the groin area yet. After numerous surgical removals, the surgeon finally removed all my sweat glands in the groin area. They never came back.

I too suffer from these painful cyst. I was once told that taking garlic pills (natural antibiotic) would help with the reoccuring cyst. Although this does not cure the problem, it does help tremendously on getting them. When I take garlic pills on a daily basis, i dont have any issues with cyst. If I do get one, it stays pretty small and goes away in 1-2 days. I stopped taking the pills for 1 week to see if it really was helping and a day later, I got a massive cyst. It felt like this cyst had a pulse!! So back to my daily garlic pills!! Make sure you get odorless garlic pills or you'll be walking around smelling like a vampires worst nightmare!! Hope this helps someone!!

Hi there, this sounds like Hidradenitis Suppurativa. There are more sufferers than you'd think. It is a disease the affects the apocrine glands usually localizing in the armpits, groin, perianal, under breasts.. It is a pretty horrid disease left unmanaged..unfortunately management is very complicated and the disease often results in surgery..Although the sinus tract formation may possibly come back in the same spot.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidradenitis_suppurativa

Hi, all. I and my mother before me have had problems with these type of cysts. For both of us, they have seemed to be stress-related. I have learned that if I have one drink containing vodka a week, the cysts are gradually resolved. Only one drink a week is needed, and only one containing vodka. When I discontinue, the cysts return. Maybe it's because the drink reduces stress, or maybe is it a chemical in the vodka--I don't know. I just know it works for me.

Your office partner may have a Pylonatal Cyst (not sure on the spelling). I had one surgically removed when I was in college. It was very painful and burst with blood & pus coming from it. I went to the doctor and he set me up for surgery during the winter break. I have not had wone since.

I've had the same problem for over a year. I had it surgically removed the first time and it was fine for about 2 months and then the inflammation and swelling started again. I had it surgically removed again the second time, and it didn't come back until 8 months later. I kind of agree with previous comments, it tends to happen when I was stressed about school. I really don't want to have another surgery because I feel like the area of my skin that was cut open has become very thin now. And how many more times can you cut open a place without destroying the integrity of your skin? Antibiotics helps, but perhaps depends on the person - mine came right back when I'm done with the course of treatment. I have discovered though, one absolute way to improve inflammation is NOT wear tight pants, jeans or fully covered underwear that's going to cause a lot of friction

I came to this site for answers but it seems by the other comments that there aren't any!  I have suffered groin cysts/boils for years but had none for 6 years and now they're back - always in the same spot - front right groin!  I shouldn't keep taking antibiotics, but I wont let them bust through the skin (what I call the 'Alien' effect) any more - so I take antibiotics to make it go down - instead of letting it tear through.  Next thing I will try is plus-sized undies so they're loose.  Thanks for all the other comments, at least I don't feel alone in the world.

Large reoccurring cists ,sometimes in the groin or genital area are a form of herpes. Unfortunately one out of three people who are or used to be sexually active have it.  It may lay dormid in your system for as long as seven years in between a break out. It is very common and nothing to be ashamed about. You could of had sex one time with a carrier and have caught it with out knowing it. It is not always visible. It stays in their system as a dormid virus and a lot of times they don't even know they have it or won't admit to it. It can be kept under control with pills or ointment.[ointment only when a breakout has occurred, very costly and not as effective.]

I had tried everything on mine, desperate I used straight tea tree oil, they bleed  after a while, it stings a little and overnight slowly went down and have not come back so far in the same area, so with each new one I do the same and have had great success.

Hi there, just wanted to say thank you thank you thank you for your advice regarding the garlic tablets. 1000 mg per day has done the job for me, after years of awful, painful disgusting cysts I am cured, unless I stop the garlic and then they come back. garlic tabs will be my best friend for the rest of my life. THANKS again Gabrielle

Hi, just thought I'd add my two cents here. I've had these cysts for years, and I've finally found what works best for me. Granted, everyone is different, but the following has made a huge difference!

First, if I even feel one coming on, I take my hot water bottle and just do the compress, but I make sure its HOT, not warm. Not hot enough to burn me, but hot enough so thats its a little uncomfortable. I do that for about 20 to 30 minutes each night, before bed and the cyst never even shows up to the skin.

Second, I wash my entire body (yea, my crotch too) with peppermint castile soap (Trader Joes has the best price) and that has seemed to prevent them, and if I did end up getting one, it helped it reduce and heal faster

Third, if I don't catch the oncoming cyst and it forms a bump, I sit in a warm bath with lavander epsom salt for twenty mintues. This will work a lot like the compress by softening the skin and allowing the cyst to burst on its own, which is the best.

Fourth, it's really red or big and painful, I'll dab an asprin mixture over it for a few days, which helps the pain and swelling. I just mix a little witch hazel with 2 crushed asprin tablets until it forms a paste, add some honey (because of its antiseptic and antibodic properties).

Those are the tried and true pointers that have helped me! I've heard of taking garlic to help fight them off, or putting cortizone on them, but I've never tried it personally. The hot compress is ideal because if I'm diligent about it, it goes away without forming a bump.

Anyway, hope this helps!

I had one for 8 months that would not heal up and go away. Turns out my blood sugars were over 300 and that is why it would not go away. Please have your blood sugar levels tested. I was diabetic and didn't know it.
