This is different than a "Thyroid" issue, and requires a separate diagnosis. The gold standard for diagnosis is High PTH (Parathyroid Hormone) in the face of elevated calcium levels.

I am having the throbbing in the back of my neck since this last Friday, that won't go away, it seems to crop up when my blood pressure goes up,or i get upset or excited. I have swollen glands under my chin on both sides, and am getting over a cold or flu, I guess. I hope. I am wondering if anyone else is or has had this experince i am allittle scared as I am the sole caregiver to my terminally ill husband, and I do everything. I would like a response if anyone will respond, it would appreciate it. Manecoonmomma

I also have "gland tenderness" and a throbbing sensation in my neck. it has now moved down into my armpits and collar bones for almost 3 months. at one point i had to go to the hospital as i was experiencing dyspnea and every breath hurt down in to my right lung. the doc said its most likely viral (in other words he has no clue) and told me to wait it out...2 months later, im running and can do this fine, but STILL have gland throbs from neck down to my armpits. Drinking A LOT of water, taking zinc cough drops and antibacterial drops, and olive leaf extract (a 7900 orac antixodiant) has kept me going and i am feeling some progress.
They did a blood test and it came back fine..a swab and it came back fine...im thinking a scan of some sort is the next step or a camera ...erg.
I also have cloudy urine oh my! no pain down there though...and occasional chest and abdomen pain.
I think its because of my positive attitude, antioxidant, removing stress from my life that has greatly reduced the pain in my stomach (previous to this :P) and the issues with my neck.
has anyone actually been diganosed with anything??? starting to think the chemtrails outside could be doing it though!!!

I have painful throbbing neck/throat in my neck for five years.
I felt this pain after having a great stress from losing family. I feel like someone is holding on my neck and trying to chock me with both hands, I feel that my neck is swelling and getting bigger and bigger, I feel hardness with inflammation in my throat as if a peace of a big chunk of food is still blocking in my throat. I went to three doctors in the U.S. I had my Thyroid checked, blood tests, and Cholesterol test; doctors told me that everything was normal in that time.
In the beginning, I used to have it only if I think about something relates to my families issues or my studies in the university (during exams).
I discovered that this pain goes away when I was socializing, talking with my parents in phone, when I lay down or eating something hard like carrots or cucumber.
I had the pain in my right side first but latter I got it in both sides.
The pain comes and goes as long as I have stress. In 2011 it became worse, even when I am socializing or laying down, the pain still growing and growing. I can’t hold this pain any more, I feel that the pain is spreading out from my neck and travel to my left shoulder. And my heard is beating rabidly. Last month, I while I was sleeping on my left side and I was trying to turn to my right side, I felt that a strong shock hit me in my chest and like something tarring my heart. I screamed and my husband rubbed my chest for a while trying to help me, the pain was minutes and had gone.
I was pregnant 4 months ago but doctors told me that the baby was not growing, and I they have to make the baby miscarriage. Two weeks latter, I lost my baby , Is that has to do with my pain in the neck, please if you know anything about that, help me please!

I have had all of these symtoms as you all describe some all at the same time and sometimes one or two. Late last year I experienced vertigo twice after business trips and thought maybe I should go to an ENT. He told me that both of the tubes in both ears were almost completely closed. We started some Zantec and nasal spray, but did nto work much, but I did not get vertigo when I traveled. I am going back next week because I think I will have to put tubes in my ears. My ears are almost always full and pop often. Not sure if some of you have those symptoms as well, but I am going to talk to him about the tubes and see if he says these other symtoms could be a result of the tubes being closed. I think it might be the right path.

I have also had this pain except it started when I woke up from a nap gasping for air, tried to wake myself up but I was in too deep of a sleep. the second time I woke up gasping for air because the phone was ringing (I had been sleeping on my left side). I answered the phone after gaining my balance then realized I had a severe headache.
The next day I was in tears due to the pain, this pulsating in my left side of my neck that is right next to my trachea and it goes up to the crown of my head on my left side, my eyes burn when this pain is at its worst. I get short of breath with exertion and it hurts in the vein to move my head or talk a lot.
I went to the ER because the pain was so bad 8 out of 10 (and I have given birth to three kids, one with no pain meds). All they did was look at me and give me flexor and toradol injection....I hate pain meds and muscle relaxers but accepted the treatment hoping that it would fix the problem. After the injections the pain was still the same and didnt go away, I have been taking the pain pill and muscle relaxer three time a day just like prescribed and my pain seems to be getting worse.
I am a bit worried because a couple years ago my uncle had throat cancer. I wished ERs were required to do diagnostic tests before just giving people a script to mask the problem for a few days...

Hi,
Thank you for this useful info! I would like to pursue the path of carotid bruit with my doctor for my problems. Could you please let me know what specifice imaging test your mom went through to identify the bruit? I don't think most of the doctors are familiar with this problem so some additional info on this would be helpful for me when I work with the doctor.
I am glad your mom got this issue taken care of as I understand how terribel this feels.
Thanks again.
Carolyn
