I'm a 21 year old american female with the same problems discussed in this forum. I have been dealing with on and off anal itching and burning. It feels very acidic, if that makes any sense. The pain is so bad sometimes, I can't walk or exercise. Hemorroid cream and cortizone haven't helped me at all...if anything they make it more uncomfortable. Apparently many people are dealing with this, and there should really be an answer to what it could be because it really affects daily activities in my life. I should be out on a saturday night with my friends right now, but can't because i am in so much pain. I checked with a mirror down there and It's extremely red in between my cheeks and along my vaginal opening. Hopefully we can all find a helpful solution to this problem soon. Good luck everyone.

I'm a 16 year old female with exactly the same symptoms as most of you on this message board. To be honest after I googled my symptoms and came to these posts, I am so relieved to not be alone (not that I wish this on anyone else). I'm a virgin so it's impossible that my irritation is an STD, and I've come to the point of complete frustration. I've had irritation (itching mainly burning) for a month and it doesn't seem to get any better. I've been using a hemorrhoid cream which helps quite a bit easing the burning and itching, but I'm reminded of the awful feeling after bowel movements & also in the shower. When I first had this irritation it seemed to also burn my lower vaginal area, but that burn has subsided. I mainly only feel the burn in the morning when I pee, but now it's more in the middle perinea area. This is embarrassing but today it got really bad so I used diaper rash ointment. My brother has extremely bad diaper rash (yes there is a big age difference between us) and the doctor actually prescribed him this diaper rash called Triple Paste. But I found out that it's an over the counter ointment that can be found at Wal-Mart, it's just a little pricey. Honestly it worked quite well for me, and I would suggest trying it. I'm not sure if it's going to make it go away for good because I just started using it, but I don't know how I would live with this irritation for years. I don't think the problem is hemorrhoids, and I'm leaning more towards fissures. However I've tried to look in the mirror for irritation but I don't notice anything at all, not even redness. If anyone finds a cure for this please post it! I hope the Triple Paste ointment will help you because so far for me it has worked.

Hey guys. I am 24 and Male. I have been experiencing similar problems. Itching feeling after using the rest room. I tried different toilet papers. I have found that aloe toilet papers help. I have never really talked to anyone else about it because it so embarrassing. I scratch at my butt and have to make sure no one is looking. Does anyone else feel like when you pull your butt cheeks apart it feels better?

Anyway, I found this article that tries to help with the itching. I dont know if it works or not as I just found this article today.

Hi to everyone - boy am I glad to find you lot!

I really thought I was alone in this. I've had this problem on and off since since I was 19, I'm now 27 and to be honest I've usually made it worse by scratching the itch so hard it bleeds!

My itching and tearing has always been restricted to the perineum and gets worse when I get sweaty, no doubt about it -more so when its that time of the month which makes me think it's yeasty, but I've never tried creams as I find washing/babywiping the area regularly, patting dry and resisting the urge to scratch allows it to heal pretty quickly.

I'm currently suffering quite badly and have a few small tears (it looks almost like a burn) and am experimenting with tea tree oil lately so this evening I put a few drops on a pad - not too much as it irritates many people and the skin down there is rather sensitive. It's early days but it certainly seems to have stopped the itching!!

On the whole though, the golden rule for treating if not curing seems to be Clean, Dry and Gentle!

Hi everybody. It is so nice to find this post. I'm lucky compared to a lot of you, I've only dealth with this twice. Once was about 3 years ago, and another is right now.

I can't remember the circumstances around the last one, but this time, I have a viral infection (like a cold) that I've been dealing with for over 2 weeks. I addition, I've had my period while being sick, but I felt the itch before that started. (Wondered if I was getting a yeast infection.)

I also noticed that when I get an infection somewhere, other parts of me get infected. For example, right now, an old ear piercing that I haven't had an earring in for probably 10 years, is infected. So, it leads me to believe there is an infection running through my blood.

Last time I didn't find anything that relieved the pain. I have never had hemerroids so I had no idea if that was it, but it wasn't from what I read. I can see a tear though.

This time I tried something new, as of yesterday, I put Monistat cream on my anas. I don't know if it will help heal, but it's definitely helped the pain. I was waking up in the middle of the night in tears, and had to focus on "relaxing" down there. If my muscles remained relaxed around my anas, the pain subsided.

I can't believe how many of us are dealing with this!

I am a 32 yr old female and for about 2 weeks now my anus has been SO sore and the itching is driving me to despair, it is all through the day and the night and worse after bowel movement. I went to doc thinking hemmoroids but he said no sign of them and gave me some steroid cream, that was a week ago, still no better and I honestly could scratch it raw it's so bad. Anyone have any idea's what I can do?

54 year old Black female, same problems as listed on this post for four years. Spent thousands of dollars with medicine and doctors trying to clear up systoms. I changed diet, purchased 100% cotton underwear, use chem free laundry detergent and nothing so far has helped. The medical profession is not looking at us, they making us their lab rats. When someone discovers something that works please emails me at _[removed]_. :-(

I have determined that when my body is run-down....bad diet, not enough sleep, and irregular bowel movements I am more prone to the painful, red, swollen area of the perineum. It itches only when the flareup first occurs. I have been told it is hemmorhoids BUT hemorhoid treatment cream does nothing to hasten healing nor does it relieve the symptoms. I realize this offers no solution for anyone....just another person wishing there was an easy answer.... my friend is a naturopathic doctor, I'll ask her for any possible solutions and get back if she has any ideas.

Oh man I am relieved to see that i am not the only one going through this. I have been having symptoms for a while now, probably about 2 years. My symptoms are: Pain during a bowel movement with bleeding afterwards, it seems that i constantly have rips which become irritated. I also have itching throughout the day, and at night. The last thing is that the top of my butt crack gets really dry or something and the skin seems to peel away. It really hurts when i am in the shower and i wash that area, it feels like when you get soap into a cut. I cannot figure out what is going on. I initially freaked out and thought it might be pinworms or some parasite and took pinworm medication and a detox medication that kills pretty much every parasite in your body. Nothing helped so i know it is not that. I came across candida and see that not many doctors at all know much about it. I am thinking that maybe yeast is causing the itchy part while fissures are causing the rips and pain. Anyone know anything about candida? I took so many antibiotics when i was younger because i am allergic to penicillin so i think it could be a possibility.

Hi Everyone,

I have never replied to one of these boards before but given that I also have suffered from Pruritus Ani for several years I decided that enough is enough... of the embarrassment of the almost near constant scratching of my AH ! (particularly trying to keep my girlfriend from finding out what I'm doing) !!

I am not a Doctor but I have been reviewing, reading many websites and articles. From this I've come up with some new methods to alleviate the itch.

(i) - Use a Hydrocortisone based cream for the effected area. You can google it and read more on wikpedia. READ IT. Very interesting that it also has been used to alleviate rheumatoid arthritis (which I have early stages of in Fingers and Scalp). Cortisol levels in the body change on a diurnal pattern which may suggest why we suffer more at night and particularly around 3-4 hours after falling asleep...

(ii) I am taking a antihistamine tablet around 1 hour before bed as there is proof that antihistamines prevent the activation of cells by histamine which can cause allergic reactions. Itching occurs when histamine is released:

See Management and Treatment of Pruritus at:

http://www.skintherapyletter.com/2007/12.1/1.html

Key words: pruritus, itch, urticaria

So far so good, much improvement... if this doesn't work then last resort is a trip to my local MD and the rubber gloves !!

Good luck to you all.

o.O Guys what seems to be the problem here is a yeast overgrowth, it would seem most of you have a gastro intestinal yeast infection - eventually it gets on the anus and produces the burning feeling as if youve eaten a hot curry the night before, coupled with insane itching..

i have the same problem and im trying out olive leaf extract as well as some wierd herb from the amazon, forget its name, but i will post here if anyone is interested and if it works...

Hello all,
I have similar problems, and the last time I visited the obgyn I had a blood test which revealed antibodies to Herpes type II. The doctor dismissed my symptoms as herpes and gave me anti-viral valtrex, which did nothing. I returned, and she gave me antibiotics and an anti-fungal, both which seemed to do little or nothing. She basically insisted it was just a weird symptom of herpes. I have never had anything like a sore, or any broken skin. It just burns and itches in the perineal area (between vagina and anus). I have done acrobatics with a hand mirror so many times trying to see what it is, but there is nothing down there, the skin looks the same, just slightly swollen. It happens for a month or so, then goes away for a few months, etc.
Also, I have accepted the fact that I have herpes, even though I don't think thats whats causing the problem. I have been sexually inactive for about a year and a half, and this first appeared months after I last had sex. It did not include a sore, fever, swollen lymph nodes or any other symptoms normally associated with herpes.
Have any of you been tested for herpes? Ask for the blood test--hey usually don't test for it unless you specifically ask b/c almost everyone tests positive for either type I or II, and they have only recently been able to distinguish this by blood test. The only way you were tested before was if you had symptoms and they took a swab.
