Rubbish! BV (bacterial vaginosis) IS curable. It is treatable with antibiotics, although many times multiple treatments are required. Also, the antibiotics may kill off your body's natural flora, thereby causing yeast infection. Many people mistake this for a recurrence, and don't bother with follow up their doctor because they think the initial treatment has failed. GO TO YOUR DOCTOR, AND FOLLOW UP FOR PERSISTENT SYMPTOMS.

sh*t, this is terrorism by all means. The body seems to be attacking the labia at nights (sometimes it includes the anus) and leaves a persistent itching throughout the day with some minor relief on its own. After 13 yrs of itching I recently (2 months) when on a no sugar no salt no wheat mostly raw diet. I am still itching and I will stay on this diet. I am a daily runner 3+ miles and have always included exercise in my life.  I'll try almost anything so I took  pinworm medicine and do clean, wash, sterilize myself and my home. It's been two nights now that I have not had to scratch. Lets see if this works, so far looking good.

hello. I am 18, and have very sensitive skin. I've been experiencing outer labia itch for the last couple of months, everything inside is fine and dandy. but due to my sensitive skin, I no longer shave down there (I started shaving at the first sign of hair way back when, and didnt stop until now) when i did shave I had minor itching, and some razor bumps but nothing too serious. but as the hair grew out the itching got worse, my hair is a bit thick, and kind of course, could my hair be irritating my labia? It is UNBEARABLE!!! I get so frustrated I just sit in the shower and cry. I use an antibacterial ointment, it is a temporary soothing effect, good for trying to fall asleep. but I know I am itching in my sleep, to the point of bleeding, I wake up with blood under my nails. I have not had sex with my girlfriend for the last month or so, I am too embarrassed. There is absolutely no odor or discharge, and i've switched to 100% cotton panties. The itch is still persistent I plan to wax down there but the skin is broken and that does not sound like a good idea.  I am so miserable, Can anyone help with some home remedies?

hi,
i have had itching for 1 year now, and have tried all the lotions and potions. being from Greek background i was told to use olive oil and to rub it all over the itchy areas. well guess what!!!!! it works cold pressed virgin olive oil. 3 times a day after you shower and before bed. it keeps the itch at bay, and keeps the areas lubricated which lessens the itch. thanks to the good old fashion remedies and antibacterial properties i have found my cure!! try it and see for yourselves. no more expenses and wasting time on creams that only make it come back worse.
goodluck

i have it too, and ive been top the doctors all the time and they gave me all kind of things to the point i gave up totally. it always comes back and all the medications are not permanent.

however i do realise they are ways to at least maintain it down a little. i realise that when i ahve bv, i try to avoid sugary foods, unhealthy foods and try to eat more dark green vegetables, yogurt and oats. they somehow reduce my bv duration, from a week to only 3 days of itchyness. I also would clean my vulva area with cold water with no soap (as it dries an cause itchiness) and would not wear underwear when i sleep and air it out with a gentle fan.

this way at least i feel less irritated with te itching and burning sensation caused by bv.

Ladies, I too suffered for years with genital area itching and discharge until my practice nurse suggested it might be a ph issue and recommended balance active, an over the counter vaginal gel containing lactic acid. Its an internal treatment but I smear some on the external itching area as well and it works a treat. Hope this helps someone else.

Hello Ladies,

I suffered with this excrutiating itching for over  a year. No discharge, only red, swollen vulva, with lesions forming at times. It was all wrinkled and the skin was getting thicker. It came and went but was never gone for long. Many times I could not wear underwear or clothes. I decided to not suffer anymore and read about different possible diagnosis on the internet and then went to the dermatologist.

I cannot encourage you enough to go and see a Dermatologist!!! All dermatologists are educated in skin problems all over the body, including the private parts. Do not be ashamed!

I saw one today and he said he sees this all the time and that many women think that they need to see a gyno, and forget to see a dermatologist (like I did!). It was Lichensis Simplex Chronicus. He gave me Desonide ointment 0.05% to use three times a day as it is safer on the privates than clobetasol.

Also important to use no soaps or body washes with dyes or perfumes, no panty liners with perfumes (smell them as the manufacturer may not indicate that there is perfume in the paper product. No caffeine---no coffee, tea, or sodas or chocolate at caffeine aggravates the condition. He also suggested a Cetaphil wash for the privates, and Dove Sensitive Skin wash with no perfumes or dyes for the body. No detergents with dyes or perfumes, skip the fabric softeners and dryer sheets as well.

The cause may have been overuse of pantyliners, which keep the area of the vulva moist and may irritate it with the products it is made from. Once the skin there gets irritated, we scratch, or touch it too much and then it thickens, gets more irritated, and then itches more. A vicious cycle commenses. The cause could also be irritants from detergents. The cream will stop the itching and allow the skin to heal. Take care to identify and remove the initial irritant, you may have to play detective for a while in order to determine what it is. Good luck ladies--

Remember---there is no need to suffer! Get help !

I have been having a lot of the same issues; I believe I am having a reaction to toilet paper, it leaves lint.  I have noticed that the better the brand, the worst the burning and itching. (all the way to my anus)  I read that higher end TP use real bleach in the making process, generic TP doesn't.  I just decided to go with a no dye etc/sensitive baby wipe; it seems to helping.  I also used a little organic coconut oil in the tub just today and I am less itchy,  I also stopped washing with bar soap in that area, because I was going back and forth from a yeast infection to a bacterial infection (for about 4 months) I thought it would never go away..  I only use Vagicale?? or Summers Eve wash (externally)  I also stopped douching as much, maybe once every few months and if I do, it's only vinegar and water.  I  always wear panty liners (after having kids) if I sneeze I leak.. so,  I try to sleep with lose cotton pj pants without underwear at night (the liners have perfumes etc in them)  I would def. start with looking into your toilet paper first.  Good luck
