It's caused by muscle spasms.

Maybe for some people, but I had the stapedius and tensor tympani muscle surgically severed, and it didn't help at all.
Also I contacted that site you mentioned and they said they couldn't help me.

My right ear goes 'click click click at nightimes'. I am a frequent flyer and also have blocked sinuses. Recently I read that it could be muscle spasms in my ear which is interesting as I have eye twitching spasms when I get stressed.

I have the same problem in my right ear it's the Morse code tapping but worse than that is the fact that when I use a heating pad anywhere on my back or neck the tapping starts out of nowhere then if I place the heating pad on my ear it goes crazy the noises are like a machine then it just stops after this end breaking noisw. Who will ever believe me that a heating pad makes me hear apunds. I'm going to an ent.

I have had this problem myself. A doctor said in an article I read to take Magnesium. It just so happens that I already take magnesium but I haven't had any for a few days because I was out. As soon as I started back taking the magnesium the tapping sounds went away.

Could be nothing...but might be really important!!!
Various malformations of blood vessels can cause this....bad news is they are probably right in your head.
If this came on steadily.. not over months and months....you really need to get some imaging done adap

I been having the same thing but it's mostly at night when I'm trying to sleep and it keeps me from sleeping it's hard to fall asleep when you hear the tapping but once I fall asleep I don't hear it anymore and I also stuffed my ears with tissue and it did stop that is weird so hopefully when I go see my doctor she can figure something out...

As I have posted before, doctors can't do anything for this. I consulted 5 Drs, had 3 surgeries, and it hasn't helped at all.

I only hear tapping in my right ear when I lay my head on my pillow-- on my right ear. I notice it stops when I tighten my jaws by bitting down. Once I release the pressure from my jaws, it starts again. What could this be? I hear perfectly fine out of my right ear. It's just the tapping that won't go away. Could it possibly be some type of fluid dripping inside my head-- near my ear?
