Yup, I've had this since I was 11 years old (now 42) the ear plug has been the only solution. Now days I use my ear phones don't need to hear anything just plug in. Yes it's strange that it stops when you plug in the opposite side ¿?¿

You may have a condition where the muscles in the soft palate of the mouth maybe contracting and you can hear it as its connected to the auditory system. Or it can be a muscle in your middle ear called the Stapedius muscle twitching and creating a loud audible clicking. I believe its nothing to worry about but it can be very annoying. Sometimes drs suggest you treat it with muscle relaxants or magnesium supplments. If you are getting really bothered by it perhaps its worth seeing an ENT.

Hey thanks...have had tinnitus for a while now as a result of childhood ear infections. I have 50% hearing loss and currently wear hearing aides. So when I noticed the "morse code" tapping, I thought it was in the walls or my tenant above me. But when I go to work and still heard it....will try that supplement from Walgreens

Morse code..Thats exactly how I hear this in my right ear. It's not morse really in morse but sounds like it. Tic tic tic. I have this too and am being to think it is from some sort of radio wave interference or transmission. Wifi or cell phones or something. For me it began after having a root canal and crown installed.

For last few days I have had a tapping sound in my right ear.  I hear it when I got to bed, and I wear ear plugs, and still hear it with ear plugs in.

But something interesting, if I lay down in bed and hear the tapping sound and use my fingers to pull on my top ear upwards, the same way you pull your ear when inserting an ear plug, the tapping sound stops. Anyone have any ideas why?

Another thing I noticed last night, if I lean my head backwards as I lay in bed, the tapping stops.  It's only tapping in my right ear when my head lays properly on the pillow.

Any ideas?

Research myoclonus, twitching muscles located in the inner ear, I have similar symptoms and have traced it down to this
