Hi, well interesting to hear about the pockets in the back of your throat. I have the same problem. About a month ago I started with a sore throat and after 2 weeks of having difficulty swallowing to a point where I couldn;t eat I put my finger into the back of my throat and felt this odd hard mass. I looked in the back and saw a white object jutting from a pocket near my tonsil. I proded at it until it dislodged, not a pleasant experience to say the least, and it had an awful smell to it.. I mentioned to my boyfriend who said he had noticed at times my breath has a foul order. So off to the nurse practitioner I went. She told me this is not uncommon as you may think. People get pockets in the back of their throats which collect food and stuff .. She told me not to worry since they will become dislodged on their own ..she had a term for it but I can not recall it.. And 2 weeks later I am still removing on my own food that gets caught in these pockets, which give me a sore throat & if left long enough prevent me from swallowing food.. Wish I had more to tell you. But at least you now know you are not alone on this odd condition.

I have had pockets behind my tonsils since my 30s and at the time I was working for an oral surgeon and he said it was normal BUT he gave me the flusher that's given to patient's that had there tooth pulled and are not supposed to gargle, it helps flush good from healing gum. It is shaped like a syringe and the top is curved so I could move the tonsil aside to get to pocket.
Now that I'm in my 50s my throut has changed and I will be seeing an ears, nose and throut specialist.
Don't wait, see a specialist make sure everything is ok.

It is definitely food pockets. I use a water pick and it gets them out every time

My dentist recommended I use a water pick (basically a syringe body with a plastic curved end) to rinse out the pockets in my throat. I couldn't aim well on my own. My husband graciously now uses the syringe to put directly on the edge of the pocket to rinse the white, smelly chunks out so I can then spit them out. It is hard for both of us to not gag, but the end result is so worth it!

I do the same thing, I wet a QTip and use it to get the food out. Throats feels instantly better, only happens to me every few months.

I am having the same problem. I have a pocket in my throat and food is getting caught in it. I have to gag to get it out at nights. I think the only solution is to be on a liquid diet. This is very strange..
