I was in an auto accident last week, and the emergency room physician was mostly concerned about my broken patella, which is actually not very painful. My concern is that my chest hurts (seatbelt contussion?), it is difficult to roll over or bend over, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to take even mildly deep breaths. I'm concerned that when I go back to work i a couple of weeks, heavy lifting will be painful and difficult, adn I am wondering about the lielihood of a bruised or broken sternum. I'm 55, so all the cartilage should by now have hardened, and I don't THINK I have osteoporosis (yet, anway). I take calcium and hormone replacement therapy to prevent it because it runs in my family, but I think my old bones are pretty strong. It's just the painful breathing that mostly concerns me. Should I be concerned, or is this normal for a seatbelt injury?
