I am 6 weeks out since my laproscopic appendectomy. My periods have been approx 2 weeks apart...tonight I was out driving, not doing anything out of the norm, and I start getting stomach pains. Similar to those I had right before my appendectomy. I feel like vomiting... somehow it feels like if I get sick, I'll feel better....but it doesn't work

Hi, wow ...
I cant beleive i found others with the same problems i have been dealing with for over 10 years now. I have had my apendix removed about 10 years ago now. It was done laprascopicly. Ever since i get attacks about once a month that feel the same pain that i had when i had when the removed my appendix.
I wonder if it is due to scar tissue?
Has anyone had surgery that helped?
Thanks

I had my appendix removed approximately 11 years ago. All was well for a while, I would have a pain every now and then however about 2 years ago I began having issues. I have been to numerous doctors fearing that I would need a hysterectomy. To make a long story short, the issue that most of you are probably suffering from is scar tissue spreading from the incision. My doctor has explained to me that scar tissue from my incision has spread and it has attached itself to my right ovary and my uterus. Scar tissue is not flexible and does not like to bend etc. so it can create a lot of issues when it attaches to other organs. Where my ovary and uterus should move easily, they do not. I have a heaviness in my addomen area, there was one period of time where it felt like my insides were falling out. My right ovary aches and my back hurts most times, stooping and bending can be very challenging at times.
I've been using anti inflammatory med's, ice packs and hot packs. I also try to massage the incision on a daily basis. This has helped me quite a bit! I know it is not fun at all but hang in there! I'm not surrendering to the fact that pain on a daily basis is my fate! I do what I can, and take advantage of the good days when I can exercise etc... I'm also not going to allow my doctor to tell me that this is my fate. There has to be something that can be done for those of us who have survived ruptured appendix's... Keep the faith!

Hi everyone,
It is very interesting that I found all of you that suffer from the same issue that I have. I had my appendix removed about 10 years ago and for the last 7 years (so approximately 3 years post op) I began having a pain on my right side, around belly button level and directly on my right side. It is very sporadic, can't seem to find anything that triggers it, can't control it, etc... I went to my Dr. about 4 years ago, so 3 years of enduring the pain and had the whole battery of test run; internal and external ultrasounds, CAT scan, infractory injection (testing the gall bladder), CA 125 (test for ovarian cancer) and everything came back fine. My Dr. said "you know sometimes people just have pain" and he offered me pain pills as my fix.
So now here I am a few years later, the pain is more frequent and more painful. So I opted for a well known Dr. in LA. I did a phone consult with her first and one of the first things she said was sounds like scar tissue from an appendectomy (I googled it and found you all). We discussed kidney stones and good working adrenal glands. She is a healing Dr. and non invasive, so I am going to being some supplements and a few dietary changes over the next month and see her at the end of the month. She actually has supplements that dissolve scar tissue!!!
I will keep you posted!

Please let me know what she recommends; I have been in pain now for nine months sicne my surgery with bloating and 8 lb weight gain and a pouch to the left of my navel incision and slightly above; it is always swollen and tender; they did an ultrasound over the area and supposedly found nothing; I did just get an ultrasound of my left ovary also three months ago and now today a follow-up so I will know on Monday the results, but I have not felt right since the surgery in January . I feel this pain is a direct result of the lap appendectomy....and scar tissue MUST be the reason I caannot even wear any button, zipper or waistbands anymore..have always been petite size 2 but cannot fit into any of clothes; have gone up at least two sizes,,,,feel poorly all the time, but still teaching in inner city school special needs children; very stressful and cannot seem to fully heal...is this what scar tissue does?? Sorry for everyone's discomfort :( hope we feel better one day

My son is only seven and had his appendix removed on the 16th of October. He had never complained of pain or anything until he started vomitting roughly 36 hrs before his surgery. It had ruptured and he was filled with the infection. The surgery was laproscopic. He seemed to be getting a little better everyday. He was finally allowed to return to school on Tuesday. Then yesterday he began complaining that his balls hurt sometimes when he walks and always when he runs. His grandmother, who works in surgery, and was actually in surgery with him said it was because they had to cut through muscles and he just needed time to heal. That soothed me for awhile. Then late yesterday evening he came to me with severe lower back pain. Today the poor child has asked me if they removed a bone from him. He is in soo much pain. Even now he is moaning in his sleep. He could barely walk this evening and it put me to mind of how he was before his surgery and shortly after. I've been online searching for possible complications wondering if something could be wrong with his kidneys. I know that the human body can survive without the appendix but it does serve a purpose and what does removing it do to a person??? I'm thinking about taking him to the ER, but I won't deal well with anyone telling me that I'm crazy or that my child is making this pain up. He is so young. Surely there is something they can do to help him. Hasn't anyone had these similiar types of problems that has been helped???

This is the continuation of my story. I did not let the pain go and continued to seek medical attention. Eight months after my appendectomy and 6 1/2 months after the secondary pain began to present itself I had a cholecystectomy. I knew something was very wrong in my abdomen and I was right. It turned out the final test (coincidentally given 24 hrs before my surgery) showed that my gallbladder had been functioning at only 14% of what it should have been and was at that point simply taking up space in my body and causing problems. The surgeon who had initially had misgivings about opening me up for a second look (even laparoscopically) was more than happy to tell me I'd be losing my gallbladder and I was thrilled too, because it meant I could finally heal. Oddly enough, my thoughts about scar tissue were inaccurate - the surgeon said he saw a lot, but none of it was worrisome. The procedure was extremely painful to wake up from, and between my two surgeries I'd say the appendectomy was much less painful to deal with during recovery. Even so, I feel like a new person and I can't thank my second surgeon enough for restoring my body to normality. I can finally say, after a year of suffering, I am healthy again!

i had my appendix out and felt very sore for many days. However the more active I was the less it hurt. I have no problems now, I think it is because I work out 5 times a week and have luvin the other two.

Hi, i had my appendix out in Jan/09 and im stil suffering from pain as if the appendix is stil in there...
Iv been back and forth to docs/hospitals had cervical examination as they thought it may of been ovaries/fallopean tube/womb however after an ultra sound they came back with nothing
I even had to do STD/STI tests to rule that out which was very degrading and caused me a great deal of frustration.
I had never suffered any kind of bowel problems until after my op and was extreamly worried that they had caused more damage, i lost over 2stone and found i bruised quite a bit, i was sent in to hospital for more tests and all apparently was fine
After all kinds of test, doctors had said i had IBS due to experiencing problems in the bowel however also said i was suffering from adhejens / scar tissue.
After the emergency operation you get scar tissue and sometime sticks to other parts of the abdoman, the pain i get is where the scar tissue is pulling my bits and bobs around, they can operate however with any operation it can cause more scar tissue and even worsen my problem.
In time they said it will get better however for now, its co-codermol tablets!! I hope you getb answers soon, dont give up and dont be fobbed off xxx

Hey GA in CA,
I was wondering if this is the same Chinese supplements that they mention here:
If so, I was curious how well they were helping.
-Suffering only a fraction of what a lot of you are....:(
