I had my appendix out nearly 3 years ago after it burst inside my stomach, The surgical team said my internal area was in that much of a mess from the burst appendix...If i had gone home, i would have had no more than 48 hours to live. Yes, the op was a life saver....but since then i have been getting a sharp stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen....which sometimes causes me to lose conciousness as it gets that severe. I have been rushed into Hospital Several times and have recently found out that i have Gastroenteritis as well as Intercystial Cystitis of the bladder...All of which they think was caused by the fluid from my appendix soaking several of my other organs.

it's good to see that i am not crazy...experiencing pain after an appendisectomy :/

hello all,

I had a total hysterectomy 4 weeks ago. I never had appendecitis pain until now. I didn't know my doctor took it out until after my surgery. why would I have lower right quadrant pain 4 weeks post hysterectomy? It doesn't make sense to me. I did have the same issues with gallbladder as some of you did.

A possible answer?
My 15 year old had been having the same issue since her appendectomy in June 2011. She has a spine defect too so we have seen a chiropractor for this for around four years. Since the pain was in her back and stomach I took her to see both her pediatrician and her chiro in hopes 'someone' would have an idea. The pediatrician ran every test known, ultrasounds of all the major organs around the stomach, x-rays, CT scans, but they all showed nothing, they were at a loss on what to do for her. She had missed days and days of school and was in agony. Her chiropractor suggested putting her on a 'no grain' diet. He believed the grains in her diet were irritating the appendic area. She has been on this diet for around two months. The pain stopped within 4 days. She's eating meats, yoghurts, cheese, lots of fruit & veg. And drinking tea. We have since added back a few grains and she is still fine and pain free.

Hope this info can help somebody!

I have never had my appendix removed but I have the same pain on my right side that you are talking about and the only time it hurts is during ovulation although I know what it is, my doctor told me it was ovulation pain and that some women have it when you ovulate you get the pain the only to control the pain is to be on birth control which you dont ovulate so that helps although I do not take birth control. I am not saying that this is what you have but it might be worth looking into.

Hey I had an appendectomy 17 years ago. I just had a hysterectomy I had been hurting for 5 months on my right side I thought it was ovarian cyst but the cyst were not present at the time the pain started but later did develop. My dr that did my surgery this time told me that along with my hysterectomy he had to remove scar tissue from my appendectomy at the incision site along with on my colon and overy there could be a link. I was 11 when I had my appendix removed and I am now 28. I do have a history of ovarian cyst but when my pain started there was no cyst present. I'm not sure of this is common or not but they can't c the scar tissue on an ultrasound.

I know this post is quite old but I want to share my appendix story for other people to read so if they're experiencing the same problems, they're not alone.:} I'm 16 year old female. I had my appendix out in January (2012) after having lower right pains for just over a year! (first got them in May 2011 when I was on holiday). My GP and numerous other doctors mistook it for Kidney infections and urine infections and gave me a lot of medication for that. One head consultant at the hospital even told me I was making the whole thing up and it was stress from my exams or stomach migraines.

However one Monday morning the pain started above my belly button again and sharply moved to the right, I stuck up with it thinking it would ease of after time again and went to take one of my exams. Then the most horrendous pain I ever experienced stuck and I was crying out, I got pulled out of it and was taken to the doctors; he checked me over and told me to go to A&E immediately. A junior doctor ran some bog standard test to tell me it was another kidney infection! and sent me to a ward, whilst there A senior surgeon came with the group of trainees and shouted at them for misdiagnosing me, he was pretty sure I had chronic appendicitis and from what I told him he was pretty certain I had it for a long time. I had Laparotomy surgery and my scar is only 2 inches long. He told me afterwards that my Appendix had infact bent back under the intestines and was black, slightly torn and full of thick black puss, much like octopus ink. Unfortunately it finally ruptured during the surgery, but he said It was a time-bomb waiting to happen.

Since then I've been in the most agonising pain ever, sometimes I keel up and I'm unable to move. The area of the scar is torture to touch even If I slightly press it. I did pull all of the internal stitching a few weeks after getting out of hospital, but I do think to myself that I shouldn't be in this pain, I should be healthy now. I wonder if they even did take it out because it still feels like it did when it was in there, sometimes worse. The pain never really eases off anymore, standard painkilles such as paracetamol and ibuprofen do nothing, Mefenamic Acid is slightly better, there's a medication, I can't remember the name of, which numbed the pain it was still there but I couldn't feel it. I'm still waiting to undergo more tests but until then it's a waiting game.

I know this post is long but I hope it helps some people, if a doctor tells you that you're making it up or its repeatedly some infection push it with appointment after appointment and even a trip to a consultant because someone out there will believe you. All the best.

Four months ago I had my appendix removed the original way(non-laproscopic) and I was released a day later to go back home. A week later I was back in the emergency room with an absest forming where the surgery site was. I was kept in the hosptial for a week while they were trying to kill off the infection with antibiotics, while I was in there I had a 4 cm cyst form on my right ovary and had a blood clot form on the tube leading to my ovary. I was released and was starting to get better but then yet again I was admitted back into the hospital because my infection had come back. They also had found another cyst that was 3 cm had formed on my left ovary as well. I was released and have been okay for the past couple months. The cysts have been giving me alot of issues and finally my right ovarian cyst ruptured two weeks ago, I went back into the hospital for that. Now Im recovering from that but I constantly have pain in the exact same place as my appendix, it hurts horribly to go to the bathroom(not burning, but sharp pain), and now Im getting sharp pains underneath my right rib cab that radiates towards my backside. I feel like im constantly in pain, bloated, moody, and frankly I cant take all of this anymore. In the past four months I have had 10 CT scans, 6 ultrasounds, and a million blood tests. Each time they say they cant find anything wrong!!!!!!! I had to drop out of college and have been in the hospital 4 times this year...I need some answers! So if anyone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!
