hi,

i'm a male who had his gallbladder out at 23. i still occasionally get pains in my right side. i have not changed my diet at all. i am wondering if there is anyone out there who changed their diet to low(er) fat and found that it actually helps?

i had gall stones in my bile duct which were removed with a second operation immediately following the removal of my gall bladder. i don't know if my operation was not performed all that well or if my post op diet has a lot to do with it (i eat a lot of fatty / spicy foods and i always have which has never caused a problem) but i would love to take any advice anyone out there has.

thanks
z.

I just had my gallbladder out yesterday and last night I thought I would die. My husband called the Dr and he said to try metamucil and aleve, I took 2 metamucil and 3 aleve and 2 lortabs and I had to sleep leaning over a tv tray with my head proped up on two pillows and it helped. Let me know if it helps

I don't know if anyone had the experience that I had. I have been suffering for about 2 weeks with pain in the middle of my back and the middle of my chest, developed jaundice and itchy skin. I couldn't eat any protein or else I would have really bad pain and would have to get rid of the pain by vomiting up everything that I ate for that pain to be totally gone. I then found out that I had stones stuck in my bile duct which was causing the biles to back up and caused my liver and gallbladder to be inflammed. I then I had to get the stones pushed out with the camera tube and couple days later had my gallbladder taken out through scopia thingy but 2 days later had lots of pain finding out I had internal bleeding where one of the veins wasn't clamped back so I had to end up doing open surgey to get that fixed. Boy what an experience I had.

So I would recommend that you just do the open surgery its safer.

for gas pains (like in the shoulder) take gas x and stuff like that and try using a heating pad on the areas that hurt. That, along with walking when you can, should help.

My Father-in-Law had surgery several weeks ago (removal of gallbladder.) Started having severe headaches the day after and other pains all over his body. None of the multitude of test the doctors ran found anything. Yesterday, while visiting with a friend who is becoming an anesthesiologist, he said that they must have hyper extended his neck during surgery. He took this suggestion with him and went to a chiropractor today. He said that he is feeling better than he has since the headaches started. After reviewing some of the procedures that take place during the anesthesia part of the surgery, I see where this could be the problem. This issue could cause pain in various parts of the body. I hope this helps. My father-in-law was in such severe pain, and with the doctors not finding anything with numerous test after the surgery, he was ready to do himself in. NOT NOW. He sounds like himself - finally!

I had a laproscopic op to remove my Gall Bladder on Sept 1st 2007. Prior to being admitted as an emergency I was not aware that I had gall stones. Apparently I had an acute gall bladder problem. I was an in patient for a week which I have found out from other post op friends is unusual most have been sent home the same day as their op. They did say my liver counts were high if that had anything to do with my prolonged stay.

I was in good health prior to collapsing with the pain and was more than happy that I did not have to have the open surgery. I thought that I would be back to myself within a week or two. This could not be farther from the truth. The reality is I have been so ill since the surgery, I have not had a pain free day since the op. I have lost a lot of weight and I cannot tolerate a lot of things because they either give me more pain or make me feel nauseous. I have also found that I am hypersensitive to smells.

I have constant pain at the bottom of my right rib cage area which goes through to my back and then goes up under my shoulder blade. I have been given various pain relief management remedies which can either make me unable to function or not worth the prescription charge. At the moment I feel totally miserable cant even laugh without it hurting me. The worst thing being no-one seems to have any answers as to when I am going to get better. I am not some sort of attention seeker I just want my life back! I would like to have answers to why this pain is there because it is dragging me down. I have now been referred back to the consultant that operated, but I can't see what good that is going to do.

I had mine out nine days. Apparently I'm a really quick healer cuz I already feel completely back to normal except I can't sleep on my right side still. [[sucks because that's how I normallydo]]
I got painkillers and antibacterial pills. Also the shoulder pain lasted two days.
But about the lung pain, the doctor gave me a breathing meter were I suck air in till the meter reached a certain number. But if you don't have it take deep breath and hold the for 10sec and that should get rid of the lung pain.

I have had pains on and off over the last 2 yrs under both rib cages that was not superficial and not sensitive to touch. It was infrequent but usually was aggravated by stress and diet. I was diagnosed about 3 yrs
ago with an intestinal ulcer. I was prescribed nexium, and previcid which seemed to help. Sometimes the symptoms would cease for months and than come back. I went to have a Catscan which was ok but the hidascan showed my gall bladder was sluggish at about 30 on the results.

I decided to have the laparoscopic cholestectomy done about 4 weeks ago
and I now get a tightning, bloating discomfort after eating full meals located in the center of my stomach near were the gall bladder was. My Dr. said to give it time and everything went well. I realize that the surgery
may not be the cause of other symptoms but what is this other problem in
the area in the center of my stomach area? Any tests or additional info?

Thank You
Greg age 49 and no other medical problems

The shoulder pain is from the anesthesia. It will pass! I had my surgery on 3/3/09 and the only answer I can give anyone is: CUT OUT THE FAT! I fortunately haven't had any diarrhea but my symptoms had been ongoing for so long, I actually changed my diet about one month before the surgery so my body has adjusted to eating non-fat! About 3 days after my surgery I had tons of GAS which is common after this or any belly-button surgery. Get a bottle of Maximum strength Maalox (I like the Berry flavored) this will immediately give you relief from the gas. I also sent my boyfriend out to buy a chili dog for me. After eating half of it (it was really gross cause like I said, I haven't eaten like that for awhile) the gas ripped. LOL! I really felt better. I was up and out of the house 4 days after my surgery shopping. My belly button is still tender but I feel really good and I've lost 10 lbs in about one month.

Eat whole grains, fruits, lots of vegetables and drink plenty of water. The doctors tell you that you can resume your regular diet - YOU CAN'T - unless of course you want to feel miserable. The other day I wanted to test the fat theory so I bought a pork taco. I vomited and was nauseated all night long. It's just not worth it so I'm exercising and sticking to a healthy meal. If I had eaten this way all along I would have never had my GB out! Life lessons-- hmmmmmm!
