I had thyroidrectomy 3 weeks ago to remove indecisive nodule. It was benign. The surgeon said the vocal nerve looked good after surgery. I am only able to speak in a whisper and only for a short perdiod of time. Also the scaring is very nodule in one area. Mostly concerned about the voice. Help

Hi,

Thyroid surgery is not a simple procedure. Your doctor should’ve warned you about the potential risk that involves this surgery. Hoarse voice or even total voice loss is one of few risks that could happen after the surgery. Unfortunately this can be permanent and there might not be solution for this. However you are still just in your third week of recovery and there is still time to get your voice back. I don’t really understand how this could happen if your doctor said that your vocal nerves are fine. Have you considered of getting a second opinion? Doctors can make mistakes as well. What medication are you using currently? Are you able to eat normally now?
