Thank you for the post very informative. I am taking syntroid 88mcg, and I wonder if can stop taking it and switch to Armour Thyroid, and if I need prescription for this? Also my sister had thyroidectomy 13 weeks ago and she is getting depress sometimes, even do she is taking the syntroid, but never before she felt this way. Thank you in advance for your comments.

Hello,
I had my thyroidectomy two days ago and I am feeling terrible with my hands and feet tingling and being numb. Plus I have a headache. I have been taking Caltrate D and it is not helping at all. I have to return back to work in two weeks and I don't know what to do. My RAI will be in May.

The first week after the TT your body is adjusting and recouping from surgery....rest as much as possible, drink plenty of fluids and give yourself a break...things will get better by the day.... the secret is finding what works for your body....and to get there you need patience!! I pray GOd's blessing and care in your life

I TOO had the bariatric surgery 6 yrs ago...and had my TT Aug. 2012.... I have had a hard time keeping my calcium levels stable.... I take 3600mgs of OSCAL (1800 morning and 1800 night) along with 4 -.5mcgs of Calcitriol (2 morning and 2 night)...
That is working although, I find that when I have very active or stressful days, the levels deplete very easily...

I am a 27 year old female and 9 days ago I had a complete thyroidectomy due to Papillary Carcinoma. I just wanted to write about my experience because when I was researching, everything I came across was negative, so I hope that someone will find this and feel comforted by my story. For me everything happened very quickly, they found a lump in my throat; I had a biopsy (which by the way is not that bad) followed by surgery. It's very important that you find a skilled surgeon in this area. Don't just go to any old surgeon that does one of these every six months. I saw two doctors both of whom were very qualified and I picked one. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's from the Surgical Pathology report which now that I think about it, really does explain some of my symptoms. It's been 9 days since my surgery and I have to say, I feel fantastic. I'm sorry that some people have had bad stories, but keep in mind, on the internet you will mostly find negative stories because face it. Misery loves company.
When I woke up, I was groggy and sore. I would say the most uncomfortable part of it all was that it is difficult to swallow. Imagine a very very bad sore throat. Your mind is hungry, but you can hardly swallow. Pain meds help and the feeling does subside each and every day. Every day you wake up stronger and better. I went back to work 4 days after my surgery and was back at the gym 7 days later (nothing fancy of course, no heavy lifting). I have been overweight for a good chunk of my life and even though I eat healthy and exercise, nothing was coming off. I’ve lost a few pounds so far but it’s only been 9 days so I can't really tell yet. The horror stories you are reading where people are gaining 30 pounds in 5 minutes, well clearly they are not eating right, I really can't imagine how people are gaining that much weight. I think it’s easy to blame the surgery. They started me on synthroid 150mcg. I was supposed to go on 137 but I asked for a higher does because I wanted to focus on my weight loss and they were fine with it (as long as I dont feel any anxiety or heart palpations) which I don't. I won’t see my endo for 5 weeks so I dont know for sure if it’s the right dose, however I can tell you that I have a lot more energy now and not feeling as depressed as I was. (You will feel tired at random times, but that's mostly from recovering from surgery than your thyroid) So there are good stories after a thyroidectomy, don't let the internet scare you!

I hope my parathyroids get a clue and start functioning again soon

Were you able to identify the problem and treat this? My daughter had a thyroidectomy in February and has all of the very same symptoms you are describing, along with depression. She just went on antidepressants and it seems to be exacerbating her condition. Her neck still is very very painful to the touch. Any help that you or anyone else can offer would be much appreciated.

Hi, Im Maureen. Im 43 years old and am having a total thyroidectomy Aug 16. Im very nervous about this surgery as I see all the complications everyone seems to be having. I am now on 350mg of levothyroxine. That is partially why they are removing all of it and the fact that is so enlarged. Almost 8cm. on the right side. Do you have any advice for me as to how I can avoid the issues everyone seems to be having?
