I had a tubal ligation about 2 years ago. ever since then i've been having almost all of the symptoms of the ptls. Not until recently had i put them all together into this once category. For the longest time i was being treated for tachycardia, (which didn't begin till after my surgery), anxiety, depression, migraines and fibromyalgia like pain. Today i bled through a super plus tampon in less than 45 min with a clot the size and thickness of my thumb. I have three children so a hysterectomy sounds like a good idea. i wonder if this is a surgery i can request to have done.
I also have 3 children, the youngest is almost 2. I had my tubal ligation in September 2005 and immediately had problems. I went through the usual channels and my gyn. actually believed in PTLS!! I was shocked because he had been out of practice from shoulder surgery while I was bounced around between several doctors that didn't believe my problems were related to the tubal.
I went ahead and had an exploratory laparoscopy and was found to have an enlarged uterus. With all the pain I had been suffering, I chose to have the hysterectomy. I am 2 weeks post-op from the hysterectomy and feel really good so far. No pain like before and I am soooo excited for no more periods!! I kept my ovaries, so there shouldn't be any hormonal problems. I am actually getting the pms moodiness today, so I guess my ovaries are working like they should!
I think the hysterectomy was a good choice for me. I am 36 years old and definitely didn't want more children. There is a good resource at www.hystersisters.com with regards to finding out information and making a good informed decision that would be right for youl.
I had my tubal after my son was born in July of 2000. I was used to extremely heavy periods that started since my daughter was born in 1987, but this was just crazy. I also had it for 3/4 of the month. I would no sooner be done with it and it would start again. I did not have much cramping with it though. My pain came at mid-cycle. It is excructiating and lasts for at least 3 days (depending on whether it is on the left or right side). I ended up getting a partial hysterectomy in October of 2000. I was hoping it would take away all my problems. Well, obviously it took away my bleeding problems, but when mid-cycle came the pain was even worse than before. If it is on my right side, the pain is soooo intense. No pain med even touches the pain. It even affects my colon. When it is on my left side. I feel sick for 2-3 days prior to it (bloating, nauseau, all over not feeling good) and the pain isn't so generalized. It is a more subtle pain in my abdomen. I also get very fatigue easily. This is just horrible that the doctors for one doesn't tell us of all these risks and two that when we do tell them the symptoms that they don't believe that there is even such a thing as ptls. I feel for all of you that are experiencing ALOT worse symptoms that I am.
I had got my tubal done in 6/04. Ever since then, I have had TOTALLY screwed up periods. It is now 6/07 and my last 2 periods were 12/06 and then 3/06. So it has been 6 months now and no period again. I went to the Dr. got TONS of blood work done, a cloposcopy, and not a thing is wrong. He told me "oh well, it's not like you REALLY wanted it anyways and you will be just fine without it."

I told him that there must be something wrong with me because it is normal to get it every month not twice a year. He said i'd be fine. So now I had tons of tests and I am right back where I started, answerless.

Did you figure out what was wrong with you?
For all of you who are having problems, you have been thrown into hormone hell. As soon as you can, get a progesterone cream at any health food store, or you can order on line, and start using it as soon as possible.

Stop eating red meat, because it too contains growth hormones that will aggravate your problems. DO NOT start taking HRT or birth control pills, that will increase your problems. The progesterone cream will help your hormones work better, you will adjust, cope and feel much better. Read anything you can get by Dr. John Lee as he was the pioneer in this field. Your doctor will try to discourage you, but take your health into your own hands. I've seen my own daugther suffer immensely and the progesterone cream has helped her. I, myself, had horrible menopause problems, and I started using the cream, and it has provided me much relief for which I am VERY grateful. All the best.
I am so relieved to see all these other women talking about this. I felt I was going crazy - terrible moods swings and my life is basically turned upside down for the 14 days prior to my period - I'm basically a total b***h who has no control over her feelings. Finally, I went to a doctor who has given me anti-depressants with a low dose of testosterone in it - to help combat the my loss of libido. I don't think these are really helping so I 'll have to pursue further.

I've been looking on internet and I believe this is called Post Tubal Syndrome - I have many but not all of the symptoms - very achy joints, very painful even to sit down - my knees feel like the knees of an 80 year old, I'm 37.

I too felt this was my only choice, - unfortunately I have kidney disease and my first pregnancy was high risk and therefore I was advised not to have more children, unfortunately I did get pregnant and I was advised to abort the child and have a tubal ligation - all very emotional of course, it all seemed rushed and panicked. Had a been able to take the emotion and panic out I might have made another choice. It is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life and it seems the symptoms of this tubal ligation will only make it worse.

We must band together and make sure other women are more informed before they make this choice!
I have to agree with Mrs.M....I started my period today..I didn't even think it was time. I couldn't figure out why I was such a wench bag for the past week and a half....I came home after snapping at my 4 yr old all day and got on line and started looking..I didn't really want to have a TL but my DH wouldn't get a vasectomy and I didn't want anymore children. We have 2 girls 4 and 11 monthes and I will be 30 in Sept. Since I was having a planned c-section it just made sense for me to get it done while they were in there. My Dr. never talked to me about side effects or anything so I was blindsided when I started reading about PTLS. I have the horrible mood swings, hot flashes, sharp pains to my abdomin, my knee's and ankles hurt all the time. There are nights when I can't sleep and try to get up and can't hardly walk. I have gained so much weight in my midsection that I look like i'm walking around with a spare tire. My breasts a flabby as all hell.....So now I know there are more of you and I'm not crazy!!!!!!I will be making an appointment with my doctor as soon as possible.
HELLO ALL
I AM 25 YRS AND THIS IS ALMOST MY 5TH YR AFTER THE PROCEDURE. I REGRET HAVING THIS DONE AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE. I HAD MY FIRST GIRL AT 17 AND MY 2ND AT 21. I WAS SO HURT,ANGRY, STRESSED AND THE LIST GOES ON THAT I NEVER WANTED ANYMORE KIDS. WELL I AM 25, MARRIED AND VERY MUCH IN LOVE WITH MY HUSBAND AND FAMILY, BUT I HATE FEELING LIKE SOMEONE IS MISSING. I HAVE SINCE BECAME A CHRISTIAN AND IT CHANGED MY SO MUCH FOR THE BETTER. NOW I KNOW THAT WHAT I NEEDED WAS NOT AN OPPERATION TO PREVENT PREGNANCY. I AM JUST SAYING THAT ONE DAY. YOUR SITUATION WILL CHANGE AND YOU HAVE TO ESPECT THE BEST FOR NOW AND THEN. I WOULD NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A MEDICAL REASON. I ALSO HAVE VERY PAINFUL CRAMPS AND IT FEELS WORSE THAN LABOR MONTHLY!!!! I AM THINKING OF HAVING MINE REVERSED. I HOPE YOU DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID. GOD WILL SEND SOMETHING BETTER AND YOU WILL ENJOY PREGNANCY AND MOTHERHOOD LIKE WE ARE MENT TO.
Please take the time to look up post tubal ligation syndrome. Or tubal.org It should answer alot of question. I had my tubes done at 24. My moods went up & down. I've lost my sex drive. My cycles are almost not there. The hot flashes & night sweats are killer. Today I'm 29. Next week I go to the Dr. for hormone & thyroid testing. It's your body, take charge! If you don't get the answers you're looking for keep looking. Go to a differernt DR. Talk to other women. EDUCATE YOURSELF.

I know the feeling I had a tubal done in 2003 and every month and in between has been a nightmare since...I have sever migranes and pain in my right side...I constantly have hotflashes and I literally feel like my heart is beating out of my chest...I now found a DR that is concerend that the CLAMPS that the DR put on my tubes are causing alot of harm...When I saw the Symptoms of this disease I about feel to the floor I think only 2 don't apply to me but the rest which is what 30 symptoms or so do...Now I have cysts popping up all over my right ovary and the pain is unbareable...I have the worst period and I find myself changining tampons every hour and soaking though to where I am going through 3 or 4 pairs of underware a day when my period is here and then I bleed post period as well...I don't know about ya"ll but not to be gross but I pass large CLOTS that are painful as hell...I am so glad to find that this is the core to my pain and I am running to a DR and getting these things taken off for good!!!
i can relate to your symptoms you sound like me i had 1 tube removed for an etopic pregnancy. The symptoms come on quick kind of like a hormone shock.I still live with it a decade now since it started and its no party.I would like to make a statement for those who write in and say that doctors believe this pts does not exist.Damage will happen to were ever blood supply is cut.90% 0f blood flow is from the fallopion tube (uterine artery).I urge you ladies to view this site http://www.drhufnagel.com/index.asp.I have suffered a long time and i cannot do anything about it except take hormones.my surgery saved my life.I do not recommend you cut or clamp tubes as a contraceptive, it will ruin your life...find another form of contraceptive..ps to the earlier message Quote..birth control rather than tubal surgery would be the culprit needs to understand iatrogenesis conditions.(meaning dr caused or dr produced. My message for you ladies out there is the more surgery you have the worst things get.be careful think about the future and your health.

good luck
I had a tubal ligation (mini-laparatomy) over twenty years ago at the age of 30. The first month after the surgery, I began having horrible, heavy painful periods. PRIOR TO THE TUBAL LIGATION, I HAD NORMAL PERIODS. EACH MONTH, AFTER THE TUBAL, I BEGAN EXPERIENCING 7 TO 10 DAYS OF TOTAL MISERY - FLOODING THE BED AT NIGHT, PAIN AND CLOTTING, TO THE POINT THAT I WAS USING A BOX OF 40 SUPER TAMPONS FOR ONE CYCLE, INLCUDING PADS. THIS WAS NO COINCIDENCE - IT WAS CAUSED BY THE TUBAL LIGATION SURGERY.

My male OBGYN (WHO DID THE TUBAL) told me that the surgery could not have possibly caused this terrible bleeding problem, and pretty much told me I was nuts. Well, I wasn't. I refused to have a hysterectomy for fear that something worse would happen.

I started researching medical information on the side affects of tubal ligation - and found almost nothing. No research - this was a woman's issue!

So, after 15 years of misery, I finally found a woman doctor who agreed that I had post-tubal ligation syndrome. She performed a day surgery called Endrometrial Abalation - a surgery commonly performed today. I very much suggest any women with post tubal ligation syndrome to have this done rather than a hysterectomy. It was quick, nearly painless, and helped me immensely! I was only off work three days compared to 6 weeks for a hysterectomy, which is major surgery!

Most of all, tell you daughters and grand daughters NOT to have tubal ligations! Take it from a grandmother who knows!
I had a tubal ligation in January 2007. I've tried to lose weight but I keep gaining it back. I am in karate 3 times a week and walk on the treadmill. I have no waist. I never had a problem losing most of the weight after my first two pregnancies. I definitely wish I had known about these effects before or I never would have done this procedure.
Is there anyone out there with some positive feedback on tubal ligation?
I am just getting my first period after my tubal ligation and it is giving me some pain but nothing I can't deal with. So far things are good as far as intimacy goes.
Hey at least we don't have to do all the post op things required after a vasectomy. Not only that I didn't have to baby my husband for a week. I really do think that I am happy with my choice.
That link above will enlighten you more into what you are suffering and what to expect in the future - and how to reverse it!!!
