Hi all, I've been reading all the posts on here about the symptoms we are all suffering. I had my tubal done in 1996 after my second child and when I was just 22. It is now 11 years later and the symptoms haven't done anything but increase. I've talked to many doctors over the years and get the same results...that's all normal. Bleeding for a month straight isn't normal, not having a period for 6 months isn't normal.

I've noticed over the last 4-5 years symptoms getting worse. I have weight gained around my mid-section and thighs that I can't get rid of, however that is minor to the rest of the stuff. Along with the heavy painful periods, I suffer from rapid heart beat, feels like I'm going to pass out at times from it, mood swings, irritability, irregular periods, loss of sex drive, color change in vagina, incontinence at times when i cough or sneeze, my joints ache, increase in headaches, irritable bowel syndrome symptoms, depression (i don't feel like a whole woman), increase in facial hair (there are only about 5 "whiskers" that I have to pluck) but I noticed kind of like peach fuzz around my jaw line, I have stabbing pains in my pelvic area on the right side around the time of ovulation, and labor type pains during menstration...sometimes the pain is to the point I want to kill myself, the last time I even took one of my husbands morphine to try and get rid of the pain, but all that did was make me not care about the pain.

I know there are so many women out there that are suffering the same fate as me and the doctors aren't listening. I live in Nova Scotia Canada and none of the 10 doctors I've been to believe that there is this PTLS out there. I have a doctors appointment today with yet a new doctor, I'm going to lay it out on the table for him, reverse this damn problem so I can get back to normal. The doctor's never should have let me get it done at such a young age anyway. I'm now 33 and I feel if I keep going with these symptoms and no solution that I'll be facing a hystorectomy before I'm 40. I was not told of any of these symptoms when I was going for surgery, so I feel I was mislead, hmm maybe if I mention law suit they'll do what they should have done years ago and reverse this.

Anyway that's my 2 cents. I'll post later and let you all know how things went with the doctor.

Thanks for listening.
Also every few months during ovulation, I leak some type of fluid from my breasts, almost like breast milk, but there is no odor and the mass of my breasts has decreased but that could be in part to gravity pulling them down a bit. All too often I have pregnancy symptoms and no period shows up for a couple months, leading to me taking a pregnancy test, to get a negative result and the period showing up the next day. Go figure.

Anyway that's all from me for now, keep up the fight.
i just had my tubal done on may 14 and already having problems multiple ovarian cysts.periods twice a month and heavy and lots of pain. i can't take bcp's because i get migraines with aura's and i am at higher risk of migraines this gyn said.well i could keep going on and on but i am pursuing a hysterectomy because i don't want a reversal and i did have heavy periods 12 yrs ago before i took the pill so i don't know if the tubal added on to it cause i never got cysts before and my migraines are getting worse and i know this is only the beginning.he said at my next appt if i still want a hysterectomy he will do it but he doesn't recommend it.i know the risks i was in the medical field plus i had 3 major knee surgeries.i would rather have long term benefits then to live like this and let it get worse being i can't take anything to help.both ultrasounds i have had done show the cysts have not gone away.he wants me to go thru this next cycle then he will talk to me about a hysterectomy.i have been fighting with him about it but i told him this is what i want.i mentioned the ptls and he shunned it off.so he doesn't believe either.he said it is because woman come off of the pill so they go back to their old way.i have talked to other people and thats not true.my sister and my neighbor ended up with a hysterectomy because of a tubal.i wish they would have talked me out of it.
It's been 16 mos since my TL and I'm glad to know I'm not going crazy. I'm 39 so I was wondering if my problems were just a part of me getting older.

Since my last baby my periods are heavier for 2 days that I have to wear both a tampon AND a pad. They are longer too. I have anxiety problems, sleep distrubances, MOOD swings that are ridiculous. I also have the wt gain in the mid section and the loss of mass in my breasts.

I don't want a hysterectomy but I may consider a reverse TL if it'll correct these problems. I've never been on bc so my symptoms can't be blamed on THAT.

I have an appt w/ my OB next week. I hope she is supportive.
Keepitsimple,

You are expressing the same symptoms have had in the past. I hate to say this, but your doctor will rule out all the other reasons why you have heavy bleeding. But he/she will not say that it is related to the tubal ligation. Although, the tubal ligation causes hormonal imbalances that effect your period. Good luck to you.
:-D :-D :-D
I’ve been taking Prometrium for two weeks in my last month’s cycle. It worked miracles for me and it’s natural. My period is lighter and more normal. I’m not as bloated and my PMS symptoms are not as bad. I’m not as irritable. And my sex drive has increased. I actually look forward to sex and have multiple orgasms like I did before the tubal ligation. And I’m not dry anymore. I’m so happy. And I don’t have to worry about getting pregnant.

Replacing the progesterone in my body helped balance my hormones. I took 100mg pill of Prometrium in the morning and another 100mg pill at night with my dinner (every 12 hours). I highly recommend the book Natural Hormone Balance by Dr. Reiss. His regimen worked for me. Read it to customize your regimen.

I also recommend the book Belly Fat to Belly Flat by Dr. C.W. Randolf this book focuses on hormone balance and weight loss. Dr. Reiss and C.W. Randolf have basically the approach and method for hormone balance. One diet supplement that C.W. Randolf recommends is Chitosan. I don’t recommend taking Chitosan to control appetite and absorb fat. I tried this supplement and it made my stomach hurt. And I had a lot of gas. However I still recommend this book. The two books are great reads for women with our problems.

I still have one problem. On occasion, I have sharp pains in my lower abdomen when I make certain moves when sitting. I feel the pain from my lower abdomen down to my rectum. It is a shocking pain. It causes me to yell out. I don’t know exactly what’s causing it. I didn’t have pain like this before the tubal ligation. I’m not bothered too much because it is very infrequent. A friend of mine told me that I may have scar tissue due to my C-section or tubal ligation. I’ll keep you all posted if it gets worse.

For now, I’m very happy with my new found natural hormone balance regimen. I feel like I have me back again. I’ve been taking Prometrium for two weeks in my last month’s cycle. I am so glad I read this, the post about hot flashes, mood swings, horrible headaches and lack of sex is me. I thought I was going crazy. I feel like I am going through menopause. The only thing I haven't had was the heavy periods, my cycles have always been light and only last for 2 days. I now know I am not by myself. this started in 2000. Is there any hope for the sex drive. I'm only 37.
I feel like I have been reading my life story. I am 35, had a tubal in 2007 after my last child. Since then I have been having extreme fatigue, horrible mood swings, and two weeks after my period I get severe pains primarily on my left side and a clearish brown gel like substance discharge.

I told My Dr that I have had multiple women tell me that they had problems afterwards. I asked my Dr prior to have the tubal if there were any side effects and he laughed at me and said he has been doing these for over 20 years and never heard of such a thing.

If there are that many of us out there having the same problems then why do the Dr's keep blowing us off and telling us it is irritable bowel syndrome or depression....HELLO!!!! I am going to send my Dr this website so he can get a clue.
Hello, I'm so glad that I have found this site, I had a tubal ligation 3 years ago, and ever since, I have heavy bleeding, headaches, mood swings, loss of sex drive, memory loss. about a year ago I went to the OBGYN for an appoinment and I had develped a cyst on my overies and I had told the doctor there about my symptoms and she told me that if it gets worse again, then I would have to consider a hysterectomy, ( I was 26 at that time, so i told her no. And then I went to the doctor recently and told them about PTLS, well the doctor had never heard of such a thing and I told her that I believe that a tubal reversal will and I think solve my problems, but never heard from the doctor's office since, so i went to my family doctor 2 days after that and told him about my symptoms and PTLS( gave the doctor a link about PTLS and he said that he was going to research it and get me refrered down to the hospital that does the tubal reversals.
I want to thank all the women who have posted their messages in regards to tl. I was considering tl and was scheduled to begin the counseling process but since reading the very serious side effects I have changed my mind completely.
I hope that doctors begin to really stress this issue so that we may make informed decisions about our own bodies.
God Bless.
I had my tubal ligation done two months ago an my sex drive has gone down and I am very moody everyday of the month and my husband and I are not getting along at all we are the verge of separteing because of our arguements. What can I do about this I am not happy at all and will this phase soon be over.
I understand everyone. I am 35 and gave birth 3 years ago and I did not know that this was common. I too have horrible hot flashes, very low sex drive, terrible pain around the time of ovulation, weight gain, and horrible mood swings . I too have realized an effect on my family, as I have 4 children and gave birth to our fourth child (3 C-Sections) I have noticed a difference. I talk to my OB and she seems to think everything is normal based on the tests she runs, but I feel very different......... Any advice???????
I thank you all for sharing your life with everyone out here. I too had a tubal a year ago in August 2007 after my third child. In July 2008 I started with funny things happening to me, first my right foot felt hot and numb all the time, then the head achs and the dissyness and the two scarry things that send me to the doctor are my vision is getting blurry and my period hasn't stoped sence July 25, and we are in two days away from september. I had a papsmear done my cervix and the vagana look normal they say , but my uterus is in larged with fluid, I will have an ultra sound done next week to let you all know what they find. I will pray for all of us and God only knows what will come next.
I am basically being shoved into a tubal ligation by (of all the women in my family). I just found out my husband and I are having are third child. Apparently three is some absurd amount of children and I need to take drastic actions to prevent a fourth ;-) My family has admitted that most all of the women that they "personally" know that have gotten a tubal have had their uterus removed or a complete hysterectomy performed afterwards (but I've been told that "that's not so bad" and "it's still worth doing") My husband and I are not convinced that a tubal ligation is some kind of magical contraception method. This is a terrible procedure to push onto young women! when I had my second son my doctor just said it so matter-of-factly .. "You want a tubal ligation while I'm in there?" (csection of course) Women are not given enough info on TL. So many women out there think that geting a TL is the "easy way out". And women who have never experienced PTLS or heard the absolute horror stories about it are just passing this idea onto their daughters and friends as factual!! If your over 30 and your doctor uses clips and ring instead of cauterization in the procedure your risk of PTLS is 2 in 5. But my doctor, says that clips and rings have a higher failure rate and that why "not many doctors do it that way anymore". AND I'm 27 .... so now my chance of having PTLS is more like 4 in 5... I'll stick with the pill!

I had a tubal when I was 24. Since, i have had VERY painful ovulation, heavy bleeding, weird periods, etc. I recently went to a dr about my crazy behavior (PMS constantly), my hormone levels were at pre-menapausal(sp) level!!! I alwasy suspected the tubal!!!! I wish I could go back.
