Hello. I have been pregnant for 6 months now and I have noticed a very strange thing. It seems as if my pulse is increased even when I am resting. Should I consider this normal, or should I be looking for a reason. I do feel well actually but this increased pulse makes me wonder sometimes. Thank you for your reply!
As you may already know, you are experiencing a number of physiologic changes during pregnancy. Elevated levels of Progesterone and Estrogen make these changes. Some of the changes involve dramatic drop in blood pressure and increase in basal heart rate. Women whose baseline pulse may be 70-80 when not pregnant may find themselves with a pulse of over 100 when at rest during pregnancy. It is drop in vascular resistance caused by progesterone that leads to an increase in pulse, and decrease in blood pressure. So, you have nothing to worry about.
