My sister has Ichthyosis for more then two years. I know that there is no cure for this skin disorder but she needs to treat it somehow. She already tried many creams. She mostly was using OTC creams and she wasn’t so satisfied. Tell me prescription creams vs OTC for Ichthyosis?

Well, I can tell you may experience with treating Ichthyosis. I have it for many years. I used many creams and many of them are good but when I tried Calmurid HC cream, I was totally satisfied. I’m using it for then a year and I don’t think to change it. You need prescription for it.

My two daughters have Ichthyosis, one age 7, the other age 10. We tried steroid creams for years, coupled with lactic acid creams. We finally saw a paediatrician who insisted we immediately get our children away from steroid creams. She recommended baths in Doak oil. (Three capfuls in a tub of warm water, soaking in it for 15 minutes.) My daughters' skin showed improvement like I had never seen in the years that they were on other treatments. My daughter was amazed that, for the first time in her life, she had soft skin. Doak oil stinks but my daughters don't care because it works. It is non prescription and can be found in the pharmacy. I can't believe nobody told me about this before and am frustrated that my daughters needlessly spent so many years on steroid cream.
