I have the same thing happening now.. I found out its acid reflux.. Sometimes when I'm laying down, I wake up suddenly to catch my breath. I take a large gasp of air.. It happens a few times a week...the acid relux has also caused swollen lymph nodes in neck and enlarged thyroid which doesn't help... If it keeps happening you need to go see a Otolaryngology and a Endocrinology..if left untreated it can get worse. People don't realize how much damage acid reflux can cause.. It can throw your body way out of wack and cause heart trouble too.. Btw I eat a few slices of a red apple called Mcintosh.. Every time. My acid relux flares up.. It works great to get rid of the stomach acid from having acid reflux... GL on getting the best of help and a fast recovery..

I have been really suffering with similar symptoms. I have pressure and swelling/ inflamed feeling in my neck and under my chin- deep in the throat. I had been taking Steroids up until two days ago which were causing a bit of acid reflux- so could this be the cause of my discomfort? The doc has given me ant-acids but the feeling is so awful and it just keeps getting worse. Does anyone know how long the antacids take to work? Are there any other home treatments to reduce the swollen feeling? thanks

I spent years being always tired, always cold, always feeling like my throat was swollen, and doctor after doctor has said I was fine, ever since I was 19.  Blood tests for hormone levels and iron levels were all good.  Eight months ago I found a naturopath who diagnosed me with adrenal exhaustion, and I'm finally getting help.  I started blogging about it at

Hi Dave,
I know what you are feeling as I have the same symptoms you are experiencing, I had it about 4 years ago and it went away on its own after a month. Now its back and I just found this link to what I think is a great explanation. Its not serious and you will recover soon.

I cannot believe the doctor told you that not only was he unable to figure out what was wrong but also that you were to young to have anything seriously wrong! Wow! Im 29 and had been having problems for years. Everything from anxiety/panic to weight gain/loss, irritable, choking feeling in my neck which just got worse as time l went on. Last year l was diagnosed by a specialist as being in thyroidtoxicosis! I could have died! They removed my thyroid within a week after being diagnosed. I feel much better! But l still get that pressure feeling in my throat a few times a week. I notice it more when im laying down but mine comes and goes and only lasts a few seconds. If l were you l would definately get a second opinion and go see a specialist just to be sure.

I think everyone needs to look at taking Gluten out of their diet when it comes to this feeling. A lot of people have an underlying Thyroid issue that is auto immune thus we must also look at Celiac disorders as well. Removing Gluten can vastly improve the health of those above and open up the answer to a lot of their problems.

I had a two-yer old granddaughter die of causes unknown.  Her family has a history of Factor 5.  It looks to the coroner that death was of natural causes.  The police however, feel it is something more sinister.  This has caused our family much suffering and pain.  How would a two-year old convey this to their parents?  Please help me understand.

Have the doctors check for LPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease). It is an acid reflux that is in the throat. It has a lot of smptoms of allergies. Coughing, post nasal drip, feeling like there is a lump in your throat, horseness. I am dealing with this right now. I have had so many tests and they all come back clear until they put a scope down my throat and saw that my Esophagus was swollen which is a tell tale sign of LPR. The treatment i am on is prilosec daily. The only problem is that it could take several months to feel any relief from the medication. I have found that a lot of doctors dont know what LPR is (i have had 3 ask me "whats that"). Good luck, I hope this helps
