Been 2 years and every little movement causes me to have a fast pulse. I automatically breathe deep or hard that my shoulders and back hurt and my digestive system is not what it used to be. Quitting smoking has caused breathing to be unbalanced, this in turn creates hormonal and physical imbalance. Ive noticed if u slow the breathe to, 5 in, hold for 2, let out 7 seconds then this should ease your symptoms. You have to do it for about an hour or so. The slow response will make ur rest response kick in. This is the part im stuck at, after the symptoms go away and u start relaxing, the breathing as you were smoking kicks back in therefore messin the system up again. I dont know how to rechange the habit of breathing in a calm manner as opposed to anxous breathing which i think was a xoping system due to the smoking. Anyone ?

I quit 6 years ago and still visit this site. I have observed that quit smoking caused sinus issues and sinus issues disturbed breathing patterns (shallow breathing) and irregular breathing caused stress when brain don't get enough oxygen

Hi all! I quit almost 16 months ago and I found this website to be a huge source of comfort. I have quit many times before and never did I have the weird symptoms like I did this time. Sick to my stomach, lack of energy, weird aches & pains. I fought through and now all of that is gone & im starting to lose the weight I gained after quitting. I do think that trying to sweat as much as possible helped. So to all of you feeling defeated, don’t! Stick with the quit & the side effects will subside & I have to say, it’s wonderful to be free of that monkey on my back! I honestly don’t think of it anymore & the couple times it entered my head I told myself no way am I going through this again and “noooo, I’m a non smoker now”!!! Finally!!!!

Congratulations on finally arriving at the end of your nightmare. Thank you for posting an update so we can all hope that we will also survive and see this through to the end. I just made the 2 year mark and still have small problems but finally feel that I might make it.
Best wishes to all.

Oh, that's a long time to still be having problems. Can you give details? Are you still thinking that smoking again might fix things? I am at 2 years and do. Thanks.

Hi Kathy, I read your all posts and all the symptoms you mentioned will go away with time . In my case all symptoms are gone except stress, its is causing me issues and when I used to smoke I could not notice any stress....

Hie Kathy could you tell me what kind of surgery do you think you need?My age is sixty and I quit 19 months ago after 40 years smoking.

Sorry, I do not need surgery. It was just meant as an example that surgery is much harder on an older person than a younger person. I am now at 2 years and 1 month. Still having minor problems but close to being over this, "I think". Best wishes.
