hi mate, the fella what quit and started back up, before smoking he said he had no anxiety but i see what you are saying he may have not realized it. But having known him for quite a while, the risks he took or rather the eccentric life he leads, one coudnt possibly assume he has anxious tendencies masked by the fags but you never know. I live in the UK and the fags here are about that too, sod of a deterrent, could have stopped me fagging at that price back then. But if i do start i will let all know here, same for you.

I was always healthy and super fit, never had a sick day until 15 years ago when I gave up smoking, I have had one complaint after another, I seem to always be sick, I’ve put on weight that won’t come off, I’m down to eating one meal a day to try and lose it, I’m not getting the nutrients I need and I’m always tired, I’m basically the complete opposite to everything I was when I smoked, my doctor is of no help whatsoever and I’m considering going back to smoking just to get back to feeling good and having lots of energy.

This is totally wrong and I wish people would stop taking this problem so lightly. I quit over a year and a half ago and still have horrible problems; bloating, abdominal pain, constipation and the like. After well over a year I can tell you that even over a year after I quit I still have the problems and they have gotten worse. I have had anxiety attacks because I have so much gas that my diaphragm is unable to fully expand, causing very shallow breathing and feeling like someone is sitting on top of me while i try to inhale. While looking for information I came across a condition called Retrograde Cricopharyngeus Dysfunction, which is not well known. It's the inability to burp and it effects a lot of people. I believe this is what I'm experiencing. It causes all gas to take the long way around, causing bloating and pain all the way. When I tried smoking again I find I am able to burp more and I am certain that if I went back to my regular smoking habit it would resolve, but that's not what I want to do.
The theory is that nicotine relaxes the esophageal sphincter (the circular muscle that opens and closes the esophagus) but when the nicotine is removed the body does not compensate and the sphincter is only forced open by swallowing, but not to allow gas to escape the stomach. Some people (including me) may notice that reflux problems go away in this state, and my reflux has returned with returning to smoking.
This is a real condition for some people and I have yet to find a solution that doesn't involve nicotine. No one should assume that their experience is the only possible outcome for others or deny what people are experiencing. My breathing was so much more clear without the smoking, but if your diaphragm can't pull air in it doesn't matter how clear you pipes are.

I quit smoking about a year ago and it was a crazy scary ride. I used Chantix and suddenly it was recalled and unavailable. Usually you would need to taper off it gradually, but I was off it cold turkey. That was when I also completely quit tobacco.
I'm not sure how much of the fear, dread and confusion I was experiencing was due to the Chantix, but I felt so vulnerable and insecure!
I had to have faith that it would get better and pray a lot. Exercise, deep breathing and watching my diet really helped me. I'm still fighting the urge to give up, but then I ask myself; what will I do after I buy that pack? And I can't come up with a good answer. Hang in there. You got this! Embrace the power of vulnerability. It will make you feel more authentic and alive. You will forge a new strength that will allow you to handle more stressful situations without falling apart! You will be better for it-- I promise!

I quit 4 years ago. While smoking I walked 7 miles a day, only got a cold or flu once every eight or nine years, slept well, was very focused and overall happy and well. I quit at the request of a loved one I have gradually over the last four years gotten sicker and sicker. I have some type of flu or sinus infection about every six weeks I get out of breath now just going to the bathroom. forget, walking 7 miles and I have a constant brain fog. . I expected an increase in the quality of life, not the opposite.

how many years and how much you smoked? did you try to pick the nasty habbit to see if you get better?

I quite smoking 2 months ago and found out that my sluggish feelings and feelings of depression and anxiety are all due to a vitamin D deficiency. Anyone who quit smoking should look into that.
