That's what I'm afraid of....that smoking only 2 cigarettes per day will gradually turn into more....PLUS cigarettes are so expensive...my gosh, I am so relieved that I don't have that extra monthly expense......

Well, I opened the pack of cigarettes I bought and tried to smoke one....hurt my throat...I only took 2 puffs and couldn't stand the taste and feeling of smoke in my lungs....it didn't help, made me a little dizzy, so going back to smoking cigs will not be for me I think...at least I tried it so that I could stop thinking that smoking is an option for me.

I guess I am glad it didn't work. Have you had your thyroid checked. That causes big problems for people after they quit. Hope you find something that helps.

Thanks Kathy...yes, got all my lab results and shows everything normal...including thyroid...will talk to dr about it next week. I thought something might be wrong with adrenal glands, but will talk to dr. about that too. As much as I don't want to believe it, it's probably anxiety causing me to feel sick....

Dont want to encourage u , its worst to start smoking again but i smoked 1 ciggie after 6 years and i enjoyed and it calmed me down

I appreciate you sharing that....Did you continue to smoke? Did you feel calm after only 1 cigarette?

Other day i was getting bit nervous and feeling stress on heart and one friend was smoking in front of me so i took one smoke from him and smoked , 2-3 hours i remained very calm no more stress on heart but actually i am scared of smoking again as it took lot of effort to quit smoking and in Australia pack of 25 is now 33US $ its very hard to afford it

I can't believe how expensive cigarettes are in Australia...maybe that's a good thing though if you count it as a cost saving benefit of not smoking. Xanax has helped me (even if it's just psychological) and also nicotine gum. Congrats to you for being 6 years tobacco free....

An advice for u ,if u r still chewing nicotine gum then your actual withdrawal hasnt started yet, it will start when u will be completely nicotine free and u need to be prepared for that

Yes, you're probably right....I can't imagine feeling any worse after I stop chewing the gum though. I'm going to have a hard time stopping....I seem to need to reach for something...
Just a thought to everyone - today I started taking a memory and brain supplement. Some of the online reviews say that it helps with memory, brain fog, etc. I am hopeful it will help and will keep in touch to report back.

Hi Kathy, Just got labs back and apparently I have Hashimotos which is when there are too many antibodies fighting my thyroid...funny thing though is that my thyroid levels are fine....just thought I'd share because you had suggested that thyroid causes problems for ex smokers. How are you feeling....did the doctor "fix" you and did you try smoking again? No judgement here....just curious.

I am glad they found your problem and hopefully you will feel GREAT immediately. I am also Hashi and it only took 2 days of meds and I felt like a new person. Watch out for Synthroid. It did not work for me and will make your hair fall out and feel like pine straw.
I take Levoxyl and it worked for almost 20 years but not since I quit smoking. I have labs re-done next week but I do not feel that the last adjustment is any better so I will see what doc thinks before I give up and smoke again. I am also diabetic so that could be factoring into this. I will post again next week after getting labs and seeing the doctor.
Congrats on a possible "cure" to your quitting smoking nightmare. Let me know when you feel human again. lol
