Rapid Gastric Emptying not related to Gastric Surgery

I also have rapid gastric emptying and have never had surgery. I have been dealing with mine for almost twenty years and it seems to be getting worse. The only thing that I have found to work completely is treating it with opiates. Unfortunately there are numerous downsides to this.

hi. Im in Canada too and have rapid gastric emptying without any prior surgery. do you have any suggestions? any specialists you have seen? thanks

I am exactly the same. We don't fit the mold. I even have it with just drinking water so how is a special diet going to help that?

My 11 year old son was just diagnosed with rapid gastric emptying and had not had any procedure or surgery done. He deals with constipation and nausea daily. Any suggestions? I cannot find anything that is not related to surgery. ..We are trying diet changes but are not sure what else can be done. He is also gaining weight and is a little on the heavy side even though he does not eat all that much because of the nausea. Any info or advise would be greatly appreciated!

My husband was diagnosed with rapid emptying after his "spiked" egg meal and xrays. His half time empty was 8 minutes (maybe faster since that was the first xray taken). His retention at 1 hour was 0. He has not had any stomach surgery. I do not see any emails to reply to. Could I please get the email address for ST. Thanks.

I have gastric dumping and I have gained weight also. ( never had stomach surgery). I try to eat small meals and chew well, but I still get 'attacks' of nausea and weakness that keep me in bed and not able to eat for days. It seems that once the symptoms start, I have no way to stop them. Phenergen helps a bit. Would like to know if anyone else has discovered triggers or remedies.

i also have rapid gastric emptying WITH pelvic floor dysfunction (descending perinium syndrome) but did not have any sure. This actually all started after taking an antibiotic called augmentin for supposedly having SIBO which i ended up not even having! i have awful distention with pain after eating too big of a meal (pretty normal size meals that i used to be able to tolerate) and i have constipation but recently went to the mayo clinic for biofeedback which has been helping the const. but i had massive fatigue, low heart heart, low blood pressure, anemia, no period for about 15 months now (don't know if its related), diabetic symptoms- i get shaky and need sugar. my worst symptom is really the distention. i can't wear jeans anymore because I pretty much always have even slight distention. i would look 7 months pregnant by end of day. some dietary modifications have helped the distention calm down but its still existing. and I'm super strict with all the suggestions.

I am a middle aged female and I have had the problem for almost 8 years. It suddenly became extreme 6 years ago when I had a colonoscopy and everything got much much worse suddenly. I do not have CF and have never had surgery of any kind. I had a rapid weight gain right after the colonoscopy and am now obese. I can not stop gaining and I do not over eat. I was mostly thin my entire life before this. I wonder if my small bowel is damaged and that is more the problem. I can feel the food trapped there though I do go to the bathroom quickly after eating- it feels like part of my food is staying and is all backed up and leaking out.

Chronic appendicitis, had anyone here looked into it? I found this string of comments a couple of years ago when my 20 year old son was suffering from rapid gastric emptying and doctors could not find anything wrong with him. Advice in other comments here were beneficial in helping him manage the condition, but managing with condition was a continuing effort. This year, a few months ago, he had accute appendicitis, and had his appendix removed. Since that surgery he has not had the problem of rapid gastric emptying. He feels so much better. As his sister happened to have conversation about my son with a doctor she knows, the doctor commented that he likely had chronic appendicitis. He said that it often goes undiagnosed until or unless it becomes accute.

it's 12:45 am and I ' m racking my brain why I'm going thru this. heart races ,cold chills, nauseous. then dump. with no surgery. I need help with this after 2 1/ 2 years dozens of. Gi:and cardio tests. I would love to hear from you. Help.

I have issues when I eat TOO MUCH food (doesn't matter what food it is). Could that be your issue?
