Hi everyone!! I just found this site today, and am so glad I did. My husband means well, and offers to drive me to appointments, but he doesn't understand how I feel physically. I've pretty much dealt with this surgery experience alone, and I'm worn out. I had my gallbladder removed nearly 3 months ago and am still nausiated. The entire situation has been horrible. I went in to the ER, so I didn't get to pick my surgeon. He removed my gallbladder,(which was full of stones and had supposedly quit working), laproscopically. However, he hit a blood vessel, or something, which caused bleeding. He thought it was a clot, so then, he did the open surgery. I was cut from just under my ribs to below my belly button. I was in the hospital for 9 days. When I left the hospital, the surgeon told me I could eat anything I could handle and drive when I felt comfortable. He was not very informative.
I've lost weight and can't gain it back. Even if I'm not hungry, I try to eat something. If I don't eat as soon as I feel hungry, I get nausiated, then I can barely force myself to eat. I was in so much pain from the incision that I coudn't stand up straight for several weeks. On Oct. 31st, I wound up back in a different ER, with a doctor of my choosing. I had several tests including a couple of x-rays and a CT scan. They didn't see any blockage. The dr said I could be feelng sick because my stomach lining might be irritated. 2 weeks later I had a gastric emptying test. It showed that food stays in my stomah a little too long, but apparently it could be worse. He put me on Prevacid, which helped at first, but doesn't seem to help any more.
A couple of weeks ago, I woke up and could stand up and I wasn't sick at my stomach. I thought I was back to normal. Well, that only lasted for a few days, but I've been sick since Thanksgiving. I have a follow up visit next week. The dr is going to see how the Prevacid is working and if I've gained weight, but I haven't. I eat as much as I can, but it's hard to eat when I feel sick. I don't throw up, but sometimes, I think I'd feel better if I could. I feel lucky, though, that I haven't had a problem with diarrhea like some people.
I was told by a few people that I'd feel better after the surgery. Except for those few days, I haven't. My incision area has really been hurting lately. I look like a skeleton. I can't seem to put weight back on, and I feel really weak most of the time. I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I might be like this for months, or even longer. If anyone has experienced similar symptoms, I would truly appreciate any help you may offer.
