I am really interested to hear your lips are now? I have the same problem. Started about 3 months ago. The first doctors visit, I got sent away and told to use a lip balm! The next visit, she couldn't believe her eyes and took a swab which detected staph.. So after 4 lots of antibiotics the infection cleared, but I still have peeling dry lips and this morning I've woken up with coldsores... I don't know what to do!!!

I had all these symptoms for a few years - peeling, burning, tightness, tiny holes in my lip where the skin peeled off, never seeming to get better, etc - and did a food allergy test and diet, went to a dermatologist ("I don't see anything!!"), used Aquaphor, and nothing helped until I started using a different lip balm (because I liked the smell) in place of my Burt's Bees stuff and my symptoms started clearing up. What?
I'll sometimes wake up with a little patch of symptoms (it'll burn a little, feel rough, peel and have little holes, and taste like pennies) and think, "What the heck did I get into yesterday?" Something I've found that helps clear up random outbreaks pretty quickly is Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment USP 0.5%. The tube I have says it's made by Perrigo. It's prescription, unfortunately, because it's a steroid. My mom had it laying around for some rosacea but it helps my problem, too.
TL;DR - Burt's Bees and possibly beeswax-containing products give me symptoms. Eliminate these and see what happens. And see if your doc will give you a tube of Triamcinolone Acetonide Ointment USP 0.5%. Your mileage may vary. Good luck, peeps!

Thanks for this. I had tried eliminating beeswax but after three weeks of avoidance noted no improvement.
How long did it take for you to recover?
I sometimes wonder whether i did not give it long enough ... I know one lip balm for sure that makes things much worse is Jack Black, but can't determine the offending ingredient!
Also, did you have redness around the lips?
It looks like I've misapplied my lipstick!
I will definitely look to give the ointment a go, however I've tried steroids before to little avail!
Thanks
Laura

I'm having these same symptoms. They showed up 1 week after visiting the dentist. Everything points to cold sores, but I really don't think it's cold sores! It's not really blisters. I've been putting vinegar on my lips hoping to kill whatever it is. When I wipe them, more fluid seeps out. It has spread around to every part of my lips. Very itchy! I've tried neosporin, Abreva, aquaphor, & even took some cold sore prescription pills that a family member had. Nothing has made this better. My lips also will swell. Please someone help!
