I got my snake eyes pierced on 2/5/20 it is now 2/24/2020, I noticed a few days before the two week mark there was a red spot in front of one of the holes, it's a bit sore but isn't producing any yellow/green discharge that would indicate an infection, could it possibly just be irritated? I brush my teeth three times daily and rinse with a non alcoholic antibacterial mouthwash after i eat.. I really love the piercing and don't want to take it out... What should I do??

Hi, guest.

The red spot and soreness around your snake eyes piercing could indeed be due to irritation, especially considering it's a relatively new piercing. Oral piercings can be sensitive and prone to irritation due to their location and the constant movement and exposure to food, drink, and oral hygiene products.

Here are some steps you can take to address the irritation and ensure proper healing:

  1. Continue Good Oral Hygiene: Keep up with brushing your teeth gently and using non-alcoholic antibacterial mouthwash, as you've been doing. Avoid aggressive brushing near the piercing.

  2. Avoid Irritants: Try to avoid anything that could irritate the piercing further. This includes spicy, very hot, or acidic foods and drinks. Also, avoid playing with or touching the piercing unnecessarily.

  3. Check Your Jewelry: Ensure that the jewelry is not too tight or loose, as this can cause additional irritation. If you suspect an issue with the jewelry, consult with your piercer for advice.

  4. Cold Compresses: To reduce soreness, you can use a cold compress or suck on ice chips, which can help with swelling and discomfort.

  5. Monitor for Signs of Infection: While you mentioned there’s no yellow/green discharge, keep an eye out for other signs of infection, such as increased redness, warmth, severe pain, or fever.

  6. Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: If you smoke or drink alcohol, consider reducing or avoiding these, as they can hinder the healing process.

Remember, every person's body reacts differently to piercings, and healing times can vary. It's crucial to listen to your body and seek professional advice if you're concerned.
