I too am a Male red-head and never had problems burning. when i was young mother used to put high factor sunscreen on me and i was always the white boy. until one weekend i went to the beach for the weekend with a friend and his family. i think i was about 8 or 9 mother forgot to pack sunscreen for me, i had to use whatever my friend was using, got a good colour and later (Years) found out that we used olive oil.
recently i have been reading on the internet about coconut oil, and on a recent trip to the Gambia with my 7 year old son we both used it and got the best tan ever. and you dont need a lot of it. apply to wet skin in a morning let it dry before going out in the sun. if it is especially hot re-apply at lunchtime. we used approx 100ml between us in 14 days, my son was never out of the sea so the coconut oil must be waterproof too all evidence shows coconut oil to have spf of about 7.
experiment with different natural oils see what suits your skin best

I am a redhead that tans. I am one of the rare (I have not seen another redhead that tans like me). MOST redheads definitely should not get in a tanning bed because it will burn them badly. It doesn't burn me. So it depends on your skin type.

Yes, certainly. I'm a natural green-eyed redhead, and I'm quite tan. My freckles are relatively light as well, and I've never had any bouts with skin cancer. Not sure if I'm the exception, but I can certainly assert my own experiences. :)
