It is your sciatic nerve. REST. You shoul not stand or sit for long periods. Yes, I was pregnant, still have the pain after delivery(not good news) but I torture my nerves by not slleping too well(I have four more kids) and also it does not help to drink coffee, or coke etc (nerve stressors)
Again...you won't die just don't worry THAT for sure will continue the ache since the signal...or the nerve will signal and WORKOUT when in reality you want to rest it. NAP if possible and enjoy your pregnancies...if you are if not...enjoy any circumstances if not CHANGE IT because it may be the culprit of that tingling, numb etc sensation.

I have the same problem, but it is not necessarily the nerve in your leg. I fell at Walmart my left leg gave out. I explained to the hosipital it felt like someone was twisting my leg and trying to cut it off with a knife.
When there is pressure applied to your nerve it does not hurt like this-at least not for me. I was informed that my ligaments(sp?) were probably pulling really hard and starting to rip. I have a few days till I am 39 weeks pregnant. The only thing that helps is tylenol 3 but I am so far along I am afraid to take it.
I did make sure with the Doctors that the epiderol(sp?) will get rid of the pain. I lay down on my side and that seems to help. My pain started 3 months ago, and it has progressively gotten worse.

My sister had a constant pain in her left leg - between the ankle and knee. It felt like she twisted it. She had no other symptoms. The pain got so bad after a month that we took her into emerg. The Dr. was on the ball - ordered a CT scan of her head - she had a brain tumour - so if the pain does not go away and nothing helps - better go and get it checked out.

The day after my open heart surgery I developed severe pain in my thigh. It went away the next day, but the thigh has been numb eversince. My doctors all dismiss my complaints. I guess it's more important to recover from my surgery. The more I move around the less numbness I have, but it never goes away. I'm so glad the pain is gone.

I was told the same thing by my OBGYN. Problem is that my left thigh hurts no matter what. Sitting, standing ,laying down, etc. I would describe it as a burning sensation while being numb to the touch, while my veins are being stripped and pulled out. Graphic haha. I am 8 months and counting and the only assurance i was given was that I only had a few more weeks to go. Tylenol didnt seem to work, but I am willing to try anything. It is very painful and though I dont mind the numbness, the stabbing pain could go away just anytime. Massaging it does seem to help the flare ups though.

I too, have all those symtoms and have been diognosed with Meralgia Parasthetica, when the nerve going to the skin makes it feel numb. The dr. has prescribed a medication for the numbness if it was unbearable, but I have not tried it as I have more pain and its gotten worse, w/ the searing pain also that brings tears to my eyes. I am over 60 and am more concerned about the lump I feel at the top of my leg, that the doctor told me is probably a muscle spasam. Im not sure thats what it is, no xrays were taken and I think that would be a good ideal What do you think. I only feel the lump when I draw my leg up to my body, when standing I do not feel it?Any advice would be appreciated.

Meralgia paresthetica is a condition that can cause burning pain over the front and outside of the thigh. There is a nerve that passes just over the brim of the pelvis and down the outside of the thigh. This nerve, called the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, supplies the brain with information about sensation over the front and outside of the thigh.
What causes meralgia paresthetica?
Meralgia paresthetica is the condition that is caused by compression of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. There can be a number of causes to this problem, but it is frequently seen in pregnancy, individuals who suddenly gain weight, patients who wear tight clothing or belts, and some other conditions.

I am also preggo and have leg pain, we all just pretty much have to suck it up, which is hard i know, you may also want to try compression socks or hose (for dieabetics) as this will compress your leg for walking or standing, I had to use them with my first and now with this pregnacy as well. Don't be afaird of balm to rubb on your leg, as it will not effect the baby! Warm baths with epson salts may also help.....good luck to all

I had weird pains in my legs when i was 14 weeks pregnant and because i am such a health freak i went to the ER. they did an ultra sound on my legs for blood clots, which would be the only thing that they would be worried about. But before they did the test, the dr told me that pregnant women tend to develop blood clots during pregnancy in their legs due to the double amount of blood that we obtain during pregnancy. He said that if it were a blood clot that was bothering me i would feel numbness in my leg, constant or off and on. But one of the big things he said was that it would feel like it was on fire and like it was burning and really painful. I didnt end up having anything wrong, but for those of you who are describing your pain, it sound to me alot like what the ER dr had told me what a blood clot in the leg feels like. If you are feeling these syptoms i would def go to the dr, because left untreated could cause a stroke. In no way am i trying to scare anyone but its better to be on the safe side! good luck to all of you!

I started having the tingling/numb feeling in my left thigh about a year and a half ago. I visited a Physiatrist and he diagnosed it as Meralgia paresthetica, it is a condition characterized by tingling, numbness and burning pain in the outer part of your thigh. The cause of meralgia paresthetica is compression of the nerve that supplies sensation to the skin surface of your upper leg. There is a good article on the Mayo Clinic website that explains more about it. It is caused by pressure on the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. I hope this helps some of you out.

Sad but true, for people not pregnant with poor circulation could be a clogged artery, which, in time could shoot to your heart!! TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!! Not to scare anyone but if it saves one other persons life, it's worth it!!

While I am pleased to have found this forum, as it means I am not alone, it troubles me deeply that there are no good answers to easing this type of pain. What use to be an occasional issue during the waking day has turned into a nightmare while sleeping. I don't sleep any more. I spend my time lying down in pure agony. I am so sorry that there are other people out there feeling this. I wouldn't wish such problems on my worst enemy. Has anyone found any relief with acupressure or acupuncture? I've brought this problem up with my doctor and it is just sloughed off as being part of the pregnancy process but no one should have to go through this.
