I am reading this board with mixed emotions. On one hand, I feel relief in knowing that others are going through the same thing. Yet, it is unfortunate for all of us. I've only had four in a decade so what gives with the life altering diagnosis.

I started by having a nocturnal seizure while pregnant with my first child. After going through numerous test after his birth (eeg's, mri's, ct scans) nothing was found and my neurologist decided that "the baby must have been on a nerve". My current neuro chuckled on that one. The second was thought to be stress related. The third and fourth occurred last month after a concussion. I am not sure what the trigger is since no one can seem to find anything with testing. I'm not sure if I can say what my aura is since it doesn't seem to match anything else in the description. This is my fourth neurologist and we looked at the latest MRI together (He seems to be a cool guy. He literally turned the screen around and showed me where he'd look for something abnormal.). Everything is normal.

What is not normal is the freak out my husband gets when he awakens to my shaking. Or the fact that I now am prescribed medicines to "help normalize" my brain to stop any future seizures. There is no pattern to speak of except they only happen while I am asleep. And they are so infrequent I truly don't know what to think. I want to rebel and say no to the Keppra script. Yet I'm scared witless since I don't know if they will occur during waking hours while I'm with my kids. Plus the thought of the side effects are not anything I want to consider. Other than this , at 32, I am the picture of health minus an occasional ache here or there.

Are there any natural remedies that could help here?

I had my first seizure while i was pregnant a few years ago, at 34...It was in my sleep. This was witnessed by my husband. It included convulsions, heavy breathing, etc.. the whole typical thing. I woke up wondering why he was looking at me crying, as paramedics are entering my room.
I have since then had 2 more in my sleep. I wake up with a horrible head-ache, confused, loss of memory, and a nasty, painful bite on my tongue. The most recent one being a few days ago, as a result of not taking my medicine properly. It has been hard for me to accept I have an issue I need medication for. It doesnt help that the doctor didnt really have a lot of answers for me on the where, why, how. The episodes that I had for 10 years prior, which i thought were panic attacks, are thought to have been seizures also. They are periods of very intense deja vu and a feeling of fear, that happen during the day or night. I have been on Keppra for a while now, and when taken properly seems to do the trick.

Im 16 and have been having seizures for a year now, well ive only had 4-5 in total, from what i can remember, sometimes i dont know if im having a seizure or not, i wake up to clothes on the ground, and the sheets thrown about, but i never think it was a seizure.

Ive only had them in my sleep, the worst being waking up to my family looking down on me, asking me if im alive, or ok, i dont remember much, i then blacked out again, woke up being taken out of my house in a stretcher, then blacked out again, woke up in the ambulance and mumbled "im ok" then again, i blacked out, woke up in hospital not knowing what the hell is going on, until they explained it, i didnt know how to react.

From then ive been on Tegretol, which is a harsh medicine with many side affects, it has helped majorly, dont think i have had a seizure since, but i dont know, as i said, i wake up, clothes on the ground etc, and i just think i had a rough nights sleep, i dont want to believe im still having them, it scares the living daylights out of me.

It sucks, but thats life, and i live everyday normally, even though the medicine turns me into a zombie sometimes, i joke around, i skate, i bodyboard, i hang out with friends, and i go out most weekends, all you gotta do is live life stress free, sleep normally, have a healthy diet(Im vegetarian, doesnt affect me much)

Thanks for listening, if anyone did.

My wife has been having seizures for 4 year now and she only has tonic clonic seizures while she is sleeping. She has never had one while awake. She has had all the testing that all came back negative. I can relate to the feeling of being afraid when you go to sleep. It usually takes me a couple weeks before I can sleep normal again because every time she moves even an inch I am wide awake and asking if she is ok. She take 400 mg of zonisamide per day. This medication is amazing for her. Helps control seizures for the most part and also has very little side effects.

My 10 year old has been having sleep seizures since he was 7. He went a one ear and three months without having one he was changed from regular Keppra to release form. He has one at least once a week sometimes two nights in a roll. It scares me to death,no matter how many times he has one I feel like he might not start breathing again he seem to be having three different types, one that pulls his mouth down on the left side looks like a stroke, one he draws up and is jerking and get blue around his mouth and sounds like his shocking. His dosage has went from 500 mg to 1000 mg, I really beleave he has nerve damage in his neck from being britch at birth , but the doctor turned him in my stomach . But it happens mostly if he doessn,t get enough sleep, and I do beleave stress takes a big part of it, I pray for him and you,ll who have this condition, My chest hurts watching him like that, why can,t they find a cure are why these are happen after they go to sleep. :-(

I have been having gan mall seizures since the age of 19, only in my sleep, and they last sometimes as long as thirty minutes. they started when i recieved a blow to the head. all sorts of sizures meds and dosages have not helped and some caused more frequency in seizure activity. I took myself off all meds at the age of 27 im now 37, i still have seizure activity at about twicw monthly sometimes more. im worried that the codition i have is having devastating impact on my brain because after having a seizure i at times can not remember the last weeks happinings, also such things like my wedding, grandmothers death things i should be able to recall easliy, are lost and i cant remember much of my past

I did experience something but i wasn't quite sure.. i kept thinking there was a earthquake.. i could feel shaking for 5 minutes, it stops for 5 minutes then starts again.. a recurring activity going on inside my system. i went to ask my mom if she had felt anything like a earthquake.. she said no, so it was just me feeling a rapid shake. I tried to keep my balance from falling over.. i sat down for a while it still did it. it went on for 2 hours.

I am having the same problem with my husband. He just randomly back in September of 2010 had a seizure in his sleep. Then another one in February of 2011. He had all the tests done and they couldn't find a cause or a trigger as to why this happened. He also has been to a neurologist and they can't find anything wrong as well.. He's currently on medication for the seizures and will have to be for the rest of his life. We still don't have any answers today about why he had them and what caused them..

I get this a ton too. Where I'll lucid dream (control of my dreams) but they are out of my control. I'll be half asleep and half awake and that is when I will have my seizure. This weekend I've had two (friday and saturday nights) and I have 3 really hard exams for college coming up. I believe it is due to the stress of those exams and my crazy sleeping patterns. The worst part about it is that right after I have my seizure I get an intense rush of fear. Hard to explain, but I understand when you say you have out of control thoughts.

Hey to you guys who say you are having sleep seizers, what are you refering to? Lately i have been half waking up but my thoughts are tottally out of controll and I think it has to do with stress, when this happens i cannot controll my thoughts or my body , i usually wake up not where i went to sleep. People who have witnessed this claim that i am running around muttering things and that there is no way to wake me up. I am wondeing if this is a sleep sizure, i went to the doctor and they diddnt say anything was wrong. I am beginning to worry.
