Hi,
I'm trying to find out if anyone has had this procedure done? Most places have said that it takes about 2 hours, but I found a recommended place that says it takes two days. Has anyone heard of this procedure taking 2 days? Is so what do they do during that period of time?
Thank You,
SuseyQ

SuseyQ,
I have never heard of a scan taking two days. It's been a while since I had mine and I don't remember all the details. I had the injection then I think I waited a while then the scan lasted 20-30 min. I had to lie still but it wasn't enclosed. In fact, I could watch it on the little screen that was over my chest. Then I could leave for an hour or so - I think I wasn't supposed to eat, but I'm not sure. Then I went back and they did the scan again. I was really bummed that they didn't put the screen so I could watch it that time.
If i remember correctly, the radioactive stuff goes into the thyroid very quickly and that is probably what I watched on the screen. It also fades out of the thyroid quickly but remains in the parathyroids so I think that is why you have to wait a while then have a second scan. Maybe you could ask your doctor about that.
Anyway, the scan isn't bad. I just got a little stiff from lying still for so long but you don't have to lie still for all those hours. Good luck -mass-
