I have the exact pain you are describing, but mine has been going on for over 20 years.  If you find out what it is, please let me know.

I am experiencing the same problem as a lot of other here. About a month ago, the skin just left of my left shoulder blade started to feel sore which coincided with a new data entry job (even though I sat at the computer at home for hours on end anyway). It feels like my skin is burning and every now and then I get bursts of sharper pain. It definitely feels like it’s on the surface of the skin not like muscle pain or something inside. When I first experienced it, I was amazed there wasn't a rash. It now is constantly stinging and I don't want to live with this long term. Also I have been pretty stressed lately which could be something to do with it, I don't know.  I am 24yo and Male. :-@

I sure have experienced the same pain . As i am left handed, it's my left shoulder .
The constant burning sensation gets bad even wen i put on a heavy coat in the winter time as i am in NY.
I just started therapy at a chiropractor using electric shock treatment and cold laser.
It sure is helping . The neck area is causing the nerves to pinch and causing that whole area with that burning sensations.
No medication helps. No need to waste your money on it.
My insurance covers 20 visits and my Chiro recommended to change my Computer posture to raise my computer or lower my chair to eye level.
Slowly it's improving and also lying down with a rolled towel under my neck tilting my head back for 20-30 minutes 2-3 a dayis sure helping.
I strongly recommend therapy and trigger point implication in the area of the rota-tor.
Hope this will help few that are experiencing such discomfort

Hi AimeRenee. I have exactly the same symptoms you described. It used to be just on my right side but now it is on both sides. If I do dishes for even just a couple minutes, there is something about that motion that piques the condition and causes extra pain for a good day or so. No fun. Do you happen to have Thoractic Outlet Syndrome (TOS)? Most of my family has it although it is very, very uncommon (some doctors say it doesn't even exist). I suspect that the shoulder blade/ neck issue might be related, but maybe not. Years of computer work certainly hasn't helped the case either. Like you, I have searched for a solution to no avail. Here is an exercise that I've found to make it temporarily feel better though:

1. Lay on your side, legs gently curled, knee touching knee and ankle touching ankle.
2. Leaving your lower body where it is, flatten your upper body/back so that both shoulders touch the floor (or as close as you get get).
3. Move you arm in a giant circle around your body, touching your fingers to the floor all the way around (or as close to the floor as you can reach).

I hope this is at least somewhat useful.

I have the same problem, and recently. Every time I use our computer.
But it is just a warm burning across my shoulder, not in the blades.

I have had the same problems for almost five years. I have ran out of ways to explain the pain. I've had surgery on my back in two locations, PT 3 times, Chiropractor, massage therapy, ultrasounds, electro-stem and more pills and doctors than I can count. I just want answers! Any ideas of how to make the pain stop would be great.

Maybe you guys have exhausted this avenue already but check out Myofascial Pain Syndrome or Localized Fibromyalgia.  My bf suffers with similar problems but has yet to have it diagnosed- even though he has seen numerous doctors, chiropratctor, etc.. After reading so much about the symptoms(which I'm sure all of you have done as well) this is the closest answer we have come up with.. He has no insurance so needless to say he's 'self pay' which can sometimes create a problem:(

Good luck to everyone...keep praying!

I have this too. Doctor couldn't figure me out either. I did a lot of reading on internet and finally found answer. Thoracic outlet Syndrome. It is a repetitive stress injury, common in people who work with arms up and out and head down, as in hairdressers, painters, computer users. Most doctors think it's heart problems, lung problems because of it's symptoms, so they rule that out and then say there is nothing wrong with you. If they believe you, they really don't know how to treat you. There are a lot of suggestions that might help, but my experience has been the best treatment is to restrict aggravating posture as much as possible, get lots of rest, anti-inflammatories, tens unit for pain, and lots of time to let the irratated nerves calm down. The nerves are compressed someplace in your scalenes, collarbone or pectoral area. It takes a long time for them to calm down, but they will if you stop the irritation, which in my case is my work. I've learned the hard way that some recommendations like physical therapy, massage, and chiropractic treatment can make you way worse. The key for me has been to cut my hours at work, lots of rest, wear my tens unit for the pain management. It's been 5 months since I started treating myself. I had some setbacks, but I'm getting lots better and have not had to completely quit work. At my worst, I had screaming pain in right shoulder blade, my shirt touching my back even sent me over the edge, my whole right arm was either numb or felt like it would explode. As of last week, my pain was gone and my only numbness was the last last joint on my pinkie. I had a huge setback. The lack of exercise has made my low back weak, it went out. I was having terrible muscle spasms, so i went to chiropractor. BIG MISTAKE! They know nothing either. I'm hurting again and really ticked off, but I will stay the course. The weird thing about this is, I've been a hairdresser for 34 years. I've have a mild case of this about 3 times, this time was acute. Each time the thing that brought it on was joining the gym and using the weight machines. It was just enough extra irritation to put me over the edge, so DON'T LIFT ANYTHING or reach up high, don't be stretching your arms out, the nerves are over stretched. The tens unit  really saved my life . Wish I had known all this years ago, I would NEVER have set foot in a gym again. The only exercise I have found that doesn't aggravate it more is walking. Even deep breathing when your chest rises up high will irritate the nerve that is under your collarbone and over your chest. Hang in there, it's tough, but you can get better.

I have been dealing with this pain for 14 years now. I have been to my 36th doctor as of this Tuesday. He was a specialist who did a nerve test requested by my orthopedic surgeon. After getting through the test (they said it would not hurt, it did nothing but irritate the nerves, muscles and skin on my shoulder) the doctor who did the test advised that everything with my nerves is perfectly normal, the test shows no reason my shoulder should hurt. This is the same thing I have heard so many times I have lost track. I have done many years of physical therapy, heat, injections, massage, chiropractic, anti inflamitories, cold laser treatments, and various pain medications. When the pain started it was happening a few times a month for a few hours at a time, over time it has increased in intensity and frequency to the point of constant burning/stabbing pain in my shoulder causing my arm to ache and my neck and head to hurt. I have a follow up with my ortho doctor next week to discuss any other ideas he may have, after that I do not think I will be wasting any more time and money going from doctor to doctor for an answer. I am going to just continue to find ways to deal with the pain. I recently decided to try marijuana as an alternative pain treatment, and I cannot tell you how shocked I was at how little I had to use to get TOTAL pain relief that lasts for 24 hours! I hate having to take this step but at least its something. For the first time in 14 years I am not in pain, and both of my shoulders feel great....even if it is temporary. At least its something. I would still love to find something that will actually fix the problem, so there is no need for any type of medication, but for now....its better than nothing.

sasnspice, are you serious, this really does help? How much do you smoke to get relief? What do you do for a living? Have you read anything about Thoracic Outlet Syndrome? Everything I've read tells me your story is really common. What exactly have you tried before? Have you had any improvement at all? I don't think I can deal with this for 14 years. I've had it one year. Started treating myself 5 months ago and feel quite a bit better.
