I've have the same exact thing and type all day. I will spare the description as others have already described it very well. The only thing that took away the burning pain in the shoulder (I also had numbness and tingling in my right arm) was seeing a phsyical therapist who did the Graston technique on my back, shoulder, neck, and near my spine.   ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***

You might also research myofacial pain - these are the closest I've gotten relief. Once the burning pain went away, I was able to work on my symptoms as they were more isolated and easier to deal with rather than trying to manage pain everywhere. I bought a book in trigger point Therapy ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***

I seem to manage pain better than before. My headaches are few and far between. While I feel better, I'm not 100%. I'm still not sure what's going on and I've had this pain for years. It hurt me so bad, that I am grateful now to have some relief. If anyone has something that worked for them, I'd love to know!

Kaiser is the worst! I wont even waste my breath. I would try graston technique, ask your phsyical therapist. This took away the burning pain of me, and I'm trying now to treat the other symptoms.

Couple weeks ago my symptoms got much worse, numb fingers and part of forearm, weakness in hand and arm, insane pain in shoulder down into fingers.  DMSO no longer helps.

Have any of you been check for brachial plexus damage?   Doc seems to think that's my problem.  Had an MRI and turns out I have 3 disks, C3 to 5 all moderate bulging.  Problem is my symptoms do not match to these disks.  In fact the doc is pretty amazed I have no symptoms that match these.

Going in for another MRI for the bp, and a electromyography this next week.  Kaiser put me on the fast track after I had a sit down with my primary.  DOC feels PT, epidurals, etc would be useless.  She feels surgery is the answer so skipping all of the lower level procedures.  Even meeting with the neuro-surgeon the day after my tests. Doc wants to get things fixed before the damage gets too far down the road.

To control the pain tried nordtryptiline, but after two weeks could not sleep, very emotional and so on.  Doc has me on 15 mg morphine er twice daily and 5 mg percocet, 1 or 2 every 6 hours for breakout pain. Seem to be comfortable right now with 3 perc average each day.  Know I'll have to do recovery for the med's after this is all over, but that's a small price to pay.

Oh my gosh, it was as though I was reading my own story. I have been dealing with the exact same thing for the past 2 years. I have constant pain, radiating down my arm and up my neck, all on my right side. I too have minimal bulging disc at c6-c7. I was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrom in February of this year. I did PT for 6wks, and have tried all meds. It pops, and grinds as well. But mostly it is just a constant pain. It is like I am two different people ... my left side is normal. I work at a warehouse so heavy lifting does not help. I have a hard time sleeping, working, driving, household chores, and just living. They told me there is not a good surgery to fix TOS. I myself feel as though there is something else going on. I wish something would help. It is very difficult to deal with on a daily basis. My family has no idea how uncomfortable it is. I would sit and cry every day if I could, but I am not sure what good that would do. I feel for you and for anyone else having to live with this pain.

Do you still have your gallbladder? I fought shoulder pain and pain in my right rib/back area for years until last August when I had pain and an elevated heart beat that I could not make go away. I was at my son's high school at the time. I decided to take two children's aspirins for grins and giggles. I figured it couldn't hurt. But it didn't help. I drove myself to the fire station up the hill. They hooked me up to monitors and sent me off to the hospital. Long story short... I was having a gallbladder attack and had my gallbladder out several months later. It took months to get the insurance to approve the surgery. Ugh. I did find that a non-narcotic prescription pain reliever called tramadol relieved the pain enough until I had the surgery. If that is what it is and you have your gallbladder removed, do not eat or drink anything with fat in it right after. It takes a while for your liver to readjust to how much bile your body needs . Hope this helps.

well I know if I sat and cried everyone would say suck it up. I am hoping for an MRI as I had two 30kg steel beams fall on my back left side in may 2011 this is all from that

Well, just got results back from my SECOND Mri. Nothing is torn and after 10 months of dealing with this pain... I still have no relief. For the past 2wks, I have been taking, muscle relaxors, pain meds, ibuprofen, and neurontin. I have also had a pain shot and a shot of muscle relaxor. NOTHING HELPS!!! I am off work again, until I see m orthopedic surgeon (again) on Monday. I hope he does not send me to PT,again... because it did not help at all. I seriously can not deal with the pain any longer. I do not want to rely on meds to have a normal life.(which do not help at all) Some days are less painful, but just as I start using my right arm or even walking, the symptoms get worse. It NEVER goes away. I am sure I will end up doing another MRI of my cervical spine. Although I hear that surgery on C6&7 is very difficult. AT THIS POINT, I WILL TRY ANYTHING. I am going to school for nursing, I would like to be able to complete my degree and be able to work. But, right now, sitting is bothersome. HELP........it is over the top and I am very tired of dealing with this problem. There has to be relief out there somewhere. TOS surgery is risky too..but at this point, I would try anything.....Thanks for listening. :)

As I have posted before here, I have had this burning/aching behind my right shoulder blade since 1998, it started as something that would come up every few days then go away as time went on, it was more often until it was a constant pain that I was living with all the time. The worst of it began about 8 years ago with constant unbearable pain. I have been to over 40 Dr's and done PT 6 times, nothing has helped as of yet. My Orthopedic surgeon did surgery in February of this year, I was very hopeful and for the first 2 months it seemed that it worked, then it started again and is worse than ever now. My Ortho has basically told me he is out of ideas after dozens of appointments with him 5 MRI's and referrals to other specialists to see if something else is causing it, and a nerve study that showed nothing out of the ordinary. My next step is a pain clinic tomorrow to see if they can do a different type of trigger point injections than I have previously had. I have come to the point that if this does not work, I will stick with the pain meds my general Dr gives me and go on with my life knowing I am stuck with this and that is that. I learned 2 weeks ago I also have Fibromyalgia, so at this time I am focused on trying to learn how to deal with that.

I feel your pain. it is very hard to function. I don't think anyone knows how uncomfortable it is to deal with from day to day. Even the littlest of things cause it to flare up, like brushing my teeth. Any motion of my right arm sends a burning sensation all around my shoulder blade and up my neck. I just came from seeing my ortho doc, for the third time in less than a year. He is just a frustrated as I am. He did an injection over one of the many trigger points. But since he thinks is its geared more toward my 'supposed" thoracic outlet syndrome, he is not even sure who he could refer me to. He has never had a patient with this. I am aggrevated, frustrated, mad as heck... I know I am not crazy, the pain is over the top on most days. And now, I am going back to work, with no relief. I guess life must go on.... as hard as it will be. Good luck to anyone who has to go through this.

I first posted several months ago because I was frustrated with the same pain and getting no help from my doctor, meds or PT. I finally found a chiropractor that pin pointed my problem and corrected with a few adjustments. After the first two sessions I felt better and I have been going ever since to correct other issues. (several months now)

I would recommend seeing a good chiropractor, as it was an answer to my 6 long months of pain.

Find a good chiropractor. I had the same pain for six months and I went to doctors, took the meds and did PT and it did not help.

After finding a good chiropractor and getting a few adjustments my pain went away. I hope this helps.

Sorry you have had to live with pain. I myself believe I may have fibromyalgia and, just like you, have had to learn to cope with my pain. Only bad thing is, I don't get any pain pills cause I'm only 22 and have had this pain since my elbow deteriorated at 12. :/ between my surgeries and doctor's visits (luckily all my insurances/welfare covered it when I was 12, and insurance when I had my last surgery) my arm has cost about $100,000. It was about $74,000 for my first major surgery. $18,000 for my second. I've spent thousands on doctor's visits. My pain was mostly in my elbows. But, due to slips and falls from working as a chef, I now experience pain in my neck, shoulders, lower back, and knees. I've dealt with the pain by trying ALL of the OTC medicines. I've tried muscle rubs, lotions, creams, gels, and even alcohols and bath salts which I've actually paid out of my pocket for. Due to the fact that, between all this pain, and a mysterious stomach illness in which all possible tests came back as negative, it's hard to get taken serious. But, due to my age I unfortunately have to work. BUT, Just know I sympathize with you and know how you feel. :/ Hopefully some day there will be a miracle cure for people like us who have done lots and still suffer.

IN RESPONSE TO Mijeka's first post.
You- my friend- should ask for arthroscopic surgery. I have been diagnosed with cubital tunnel (like carpal tunnel, but your elbow or shoulder pinches the nerve that runs along your elbow 'aka funny bone'), osteochondritis dissecans and osteoarthritis. I've had them now for 10 years ever since I was 12. I have had 2 surgeries- the first one was major and corrected my deteriorated elbow and the second was arthroscopic surgery. Between fixing my bone/arthritis problems, the doctor snipped the casing that goes over my elbow nerve. Before the surgery, I couldn't feel the right sides of my hands, my pinky/ring finger, and my arm from my elbow down to my hand. It hurt so bad I couldn't pick up things and I could NOT feel anything. I woke up with my hands numb. I DO play computer a lot and I work as a chef so that can really mess up your hands/elbows and nerves. Afterwards, there is SOME numbness but not as much pain. I have this in my left arm as well. But I haven't had it fixed. so it's in a lot of pain. Both arms, if bent for even a minute, become numb and pinched. So I sleep with my arms straight. I wear arthritis gloves for any pain I experience as well as a soft arm brace with some elastic in it. These help with some pain but not a lot. Also- try almost all types of otc aspirins/ibuprofens as well as muscle rubs, patches, lotions, creams, gels and heating pads/massagers. I've done all I can without medical help (besides surgeries) to get rid of my pain. it may be a little late but I hope it helps you or anyone else.

I have the same issue in my right shoulderblade/neck/arm. Here are a few things that work for me -

1. lower the keyboard so when you type the shoulders are relaxed.

2. use a different mouse (i switched to one with buttons on the side and it made a big difference)

3. massage (i bought a massage chair and the pain would completely go away for a few days after a vigorous 30 min massage).

4. let my 6 year old step on me while I lie flat on the carpet :-)

FYI - I had a car accident a few years ago and I also work A LOT in front of computers. I am still searching for a cure; but things are under control. My keyward is "movement".

I do have the same feeling for years now, but for me, it's on the left side. I was diagnosed to have a mild disk bulges and a DDD from C3 to C6 (diagnosed last 2009), and another DDD case with annular tears in my L3 to S1 (diagnosed last 2007) but my doctor said, if it's my cervical spine problem that's causing the pain, it shouldn't be that severe coz it's only mild. I already have pain in my middle left finger for 2months now. And my whole back was already stiff, numb and has burning sensations. And worst is, I could already feel the pain on my chest now. The pain in my left shoulder blade was so severe, it's like something so sharp was pointing on it. And when I was asking for a massage on my back, I always want it to be hard. I was having the physical therapy on a yearly basis. I even had accupunctures, reflexology, spa and massages. Some helped somehow, but they are all temporary.
