I have the exact shame thing! Its the outer ear only - does ANYONE think that it could be connected to our wisdom teeth????? Can anyone reading this confirm that if they have had their wisdom teeth out that the ear ache has stopped???? I really think this COULD be related but I have had this for years. Starting to hate going to sleep... Wish I knew for sure. Even suggested to my husband that I think I need to go to the dentist (no blady insurance) but hey will have to cross that bridge.... Does anyone have any knowledge on this this???
I have the same exact ear problem. When I lay just on my left side too long my ear lobe, not the canal at all, starts to hurt so I have to turn over so the pain will go away. However, my doctor did all kinds of blood and urine tests to find out that I have no health or hormone problems at all so I doubt that hormones could be the problem. I'm too trying to figure it out since now two different doctors I have seen say that my ears are in perfect health and everything. I wish I could stop this it's irritating.
I have this problem and my wisdom teeth are out. I wish I could stop this too.
My problem is almost exactly the same, did you solve it?

This is exactly what i feel, and have so for about three years now, last night it has become worse the pain now also under the ear and on my head surounding my ear, and just lying on my back. This is all very strange, I also asked my doctor, she said she had never heard of it, So what now i,m not looking forward to tonight

hi, I have the same problem as you .I would be interested to know where do you get the drops from ?
Hi try foam ear plugs for this problem it works brilliant
It is such a relief to learn that I am not alone. For the past year, I have not been able to lie on my right side due to a dull, aching pain that occurs after I lie on my right side for >3 minutes, presumably from the weight of my head. It is so bothersome, that I no longer sleep on my right side. I cannot put a phone to my right ear for longer than a minute without the same dull ache or pressure. I do clench my teeth but wear a night guard so I guess I have TMJ but no official diagnosis. Prior to the ear pain and for many years, I am aware that my right external ear canal is more narrow that my left ear canal. I noticed this based on ear plugs that do not fit my right ear and a sharp/severe pain that occurs if I push an ear plug in firmly. My narrow ear canal was confirmed by an ENT physician years ago while there was no ear pain due to pressure until about a year ago. I think it is weird that it is in one ear and wonder if it is pain from pressure on a narrow ear canal that is referred to the sensitive nerve endings of the ear cartilage. I plan to purse this with my ENT.
Hello all. I am so glad I have found this thread. I first had this problem in March 2002 so that is 12 years ago now. When I first experienced it, I thought it was a severe ear infection and quickly called the doctor for some antibiotics as I was due to fly three days later on a skiing holiday. I didn't even get round to picking them, up as the pain wore off.
It mainly happens in my left ear and is so severe that it wakes me up. It has happened in my right ear but not very often. Last June it got so bad that I decided enough was enough and went to see my GP. He sent me for an X-ray on my neck. The X-ray showed up bad muscle spasms on the left hand side. I was referred for physio which I have to say made no difference at all. She said my neck was extremely tight and I didn't have much movement.
after the physio, I was referred back to my doctor who then decided it must be a form of neuralgia and gave me medication to help. It hasn't helped and it is so bad now that I am even beginning to get tingling sensations and pain during the day.
totally fed up with it. I asked the dentist if there is any signof e grinding my teeth and there isn't. I had y wisdoms teeth out about five years prior to te start of this so no connection there. oth of my eardrums burst back in 1998 so whether there is any connectin there I don't know. At least I am not alone. A lot of people have mentioned that it subsides upon standing or changing aides. Mine can go on until midday and only goes then after strong painkillers. It is a real mystery isn't it?
I have just noticed your post and appreciate it is more than one year old so I am not sure whether you will receive this however I have a similar list of health issues and am about to see an expert on relapsing polychondritis, a very rare auto immune disease. My team of consultants have found no explanation for my on going auto immune conditions. One of the hallmark features of this disease is ear pain in the outer cartilage. With kind regards

I had the same problem and a friend recommended sleeping with a feather pillow and this fixed the problem this was a lot of years ago but now I am suffering with earache in bed causing headache but don't have the sharp pain when lifting my head from the pillow anymore
I bought the suggested pillow for side sleepers, the one with the ear hole cut out (although I found one for much less money through Amazon-$21.00) and my ear pain is gone!
