about since november i have been feeling very sick at night and the only thing that seems to make it feel better is if i burp alot, it is really upsetting me and i want it sorted. I have been to the doctors twice and their prescriptions have twice failed. At the moment i am stuck taking gaviscon tablets everynight - which are rather expensive after a while. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions to what it could be...my doctor said that some sort of flap thing wasnt keeping the acid in my stomach when i lay down, but i think they were wrong since it now happens when i am sitting up. please help me any ideas. i am currently doing exams and my family think its due to stress, i however feel different. any ideas at all...thanks

I don't want to scare you but the fact that you have nausea associated with excessive burping could be a sign of stomach cancer. Of course, the more likely thing is that you have a bad diet and are sensitive to lactose. Try going off milk and dairy for a week and see if this helps.

Try getting an ultra sound of your stomach, it could be something to do with your gall bladder.. possibly gallstones, surgery to have your gall bladder removed is pretty simple.

The same thing happens to me. It's called you lower esophageal or upper esophageal sphincter. As food passes down your esophagus and stomach, it's sort of like a door that should only open when food is coming in, and never let food back up. But, it cases such as acid reflux, or GERD, this happens. I have the same thing happen to me, it's a pain, but you learn to live with it. Look it up on the internet, and you will find some really helpful tips on how to deal with it. If you want a diagnosis, ask your doctor for a barium swallow test. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions about it!!

Hi all- I am on this website searching for a clue of what is wrong with my 16 year old son...he has always had stomach issues, but lately has picked up this night time nausea thing...I am anxious to know if any of you found an answer!! He is happy, well-adjusted, eats really well and lately we have been eating all organic and really healthy...but the nausea is still there. I know getting ready for college, grades, and all that can be stressful, but he is always in good spirits, not looking worried or anxious about anything! Any ideas??? I don't want him to go off to school feeling icky at night...thanks!

Hi there, did you and your son only recently started eating really healthy? Was it before the nausea? If so, I believe your som would be going through detox symptoms. I have a bad stomach myself, and I have been on a diet and went through nausea for months! If you look up "detox symptoms" on google, you will find many sites that list the symptoms with nausea being one of the main ones. If this is the case, tell your son to stick to the diet because the symptoms will eventually go. I hope I have helped. :) may God be with you and your son

Sorry to post on a rather old subject but I have a possible remedy y'all might want to try. I remember the exact day a similar situation happened to me: June 27th, 2008 I woke up with my stomach hurting and I was pretty nauseous. It constantly lasted a week and then it turned into a month and at this point I was pretty much starting to hate life. The doctors said nothing was wrong, but I knew something was up. Eventually, about two months of near-constant nausea I tried Phazyme. It actually made me feel better. I would take two a day for a while and they helped my nausea go away. After a while I weened myself off of them basically and felt fine. So if someone is suffering from nausea problems like described in the original post try Phazyme and see if it helps you =]

Hello all. I just wanted to say I am the QUEEN WITH NAUSEA! EVERY single NIGHT for a YEAR I get nauseated!!! I drink baking soda almost every night and I also take promethazine or a Zofran for the nausea. I will tell you I'm so frustrated with it I just cry. My whole family is asleep and I'm up pacing the floor rubbing my stomach on the verge of throwing up. I hate throwing up more than I can express so I fight it really hard. The baking soda helps every time and it works pretty fast as well but it's horrible tasting and I know prolonged use of it isnt good for me but I dont know what else to do. They have done blood test after blood test, Ultrasounds of my stomach and finally I'm getting an endoscopy done next week. Due to no insurance there wasn't much any Dr. could do but I finally do so i cannot WAIT to get the results from the endoscopy. I have tried every diet, switching all my foods, doesnt matter, i can eat the healthiest dinner and I still get sick. I hate life, I get so upset and just dread night time. When it starts getting dark outside, I cry and get depressed! I'll let you know what they see with the endoscopy but ask your dr. for promethazine and zofran, mine had no problem giving me prescriptions of it and I have no idea what I would do without it. Also, sometimes after dinner, it feels like my food NEVER goes down, like 4 hours later I still feel horribly full and I'm miserable, soooooo sick of this happening!!!

Same problem here. This has now been going on for 4 nights so I know it is not normal. After a few hours sleep, I wake up with the feeling like I'm going to vomit, but have not yet. After eating, it feels like food just sits in my throat. No dr. apt. yet but this is getting very annoying.

PLEASE let me know what your doctor says with the endoscopy!!! I have had an upper GI and sonogram of all my organs and they have found nothing. The next step for me is is the endoscopy also but I have been avoiding it due to the high annual deductible my insurance charges. I am so upset and tired of this feeling. it started for me in Jan 10 and I was vomiting 2-3 times a week and now its just nausea at night only. I am in tears about it right now as I write. I am glad I am not alone with this although the doctors seem to act like I am.

I don't think you guys have paid attention to something that you all share, the fear of vomiting. I've been dealing with this as well and no doctor could find a resolution and the truth is, there isn't a direct one. I'm almost certain you have emetaphobia and should look into it because that is most likely the cause, believe it or not. The nausea is usually associated with anxiety and feels as if you are going to vomit but you don't actually vomit. You may notice that you generally feel better in the comfort if your home as opposed to public places such as school, this is no coincidence. In fact, I just left school due to the severity of my nausea and by the time I got home, the nausea almost magically disappeared. Now I actually have an appetite to satisfy my craving hunger. This is key: "Many emetophobia
sufferers experience frequent nausea and digestive upsets. These are extremely
common symptoms of anxiety, and can lead to a self-replicating cycle. You are afraid to
vomit, and the fear causes nausea and stomach pain. This makes you feel like
vomiting, which in turn makes you more afraid. Research indicates that this
cycle may be the result in hypervigilent sensitivity to gastrointestinal
symptoms and misappraisal of nausea and other GI symptoms."
