I have seen a neurosurgeon and bean told that l nead Fusion C5/6 with metal plates and possibly C6/7 in a future that was 3 years ago. I have read so many negative very little positive outcomes and don't know if surgery intervention we'll be any help for me. I read you story after the operation your spasms was in a saem level you didn't got much of a improvement. I'm not shore but thinks a harder and harder how would you know what's the best and wether to do the operation or not but thinks in daily bases are not normal anymore.
I am 4 months post op 3,4 and 5 cervical discectomy and fusion. I had previous 5/6 done in 2013 and continued to have problems which pushed me to surgery again. I can't stand the pain, I can't work, can't sleep and can barely pull it together to get dressed some days. I am terrified I am going to lose my job and I have a house. Social security stipulations couldn't be more vague.
Does anyone have information on Social security that might be more solid than losing your life before they approve you?
I had ACDF surgery one 3 discs in my neck 24/10/17 6 months later I’m still off work and 100% in a more worse state than I was when I started.
The pain either side of where the discs are is so painful all the time, made of neck feels so painful like a deep pressure at base of neck that causes constant headaches and even ear aches sometimes. I get pain shooting down from neck to middle of shoulder blades. The left arm pain numbness tingling loss of grip never changed and is now worse. I woke from the operation will bad pain in right shoulder which I never had before and 3 weeks ago they had to do an operation on that so also recovering from that now. MRI and X rays look ok but I saw surgeon yesterday and he’s said pain is exactly where the plates and screws are so is ordering a CT scan ASAP.
I want to do surgery on left shoulder now as well.
I was supposed to be having a slipped disc operation this Friday on my lower back but I have cancelled it as I’m too frightened to have it done in case that fails. Until I find out why I’ve been left in such pain I can’t risk having the same op on my lower back in case that fails as well. So for 9 mo that I have a permanent slipped disc and permanent sciatic nerve trapped out. I’m not getting paid from work apart from SSP so finiancally this is crippling us. I wish I never had it done. I’m 43 and can’t hardly do anything. Just driving from Bournemouth to NewHall Hospital near Salisbury which is a 40 minute drive left me in so much pain I had to go to bed as the neck was so painful and such bad headaches and today it’s no better. I can’t hardly even look down for more than a couple minutes, can’t even dry hair at back, as when I lift arms above head it causes neck so much pain. It’s just awful and don’t know what to do?
Hello, Mcgoo409.
It is not uncommon to experience pain after cervical fusion surgery. However, experiencing an increase in pain in the same area as before surgery could be a cause for concern and may require further evaluation.
The pain in the right scapula area may be due to a variety of reasons, including nerve compression, muscle strain, or inflammation. It may also be related to the surgery, such as complications or issues with the fusion site.
It is essential to follow up with your surgeon to discuss your symptoms and undergo further evaluation, which may include imaging studies, such as X-rays or MRI, to determine the underlying cause of your pain.
In the meantime, you may find relief from your symptoms by taking pain medication as prescribed by your doctor, applying heat or cold therapy to the affected area, practicing good posture, and engaging in light physical activity, such as walking or stretching, as recommended by your surgeon.
It is important to follow your surgeon's postoperative instructions carefully and attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing and recovery. If you experience any concerning symptoms, such as fever, weakness, or numbness, contact your surgeon immediately for further guidance.
