I attribute the syptoms listed above to be most likely what is a commonly occuring, and on the whole harmless yeast infection. It is normally caused by a yeast fungus known as candida albicans. This fungus is within us all and lives in our mouths, on our skin and in our intstinal tract. Normally our immune system will control the levels of the fungus in conjunction with the 'good' bacteria (that out compete the fungus) that live in our guts and all over our skin, especially on the penis, scrotum and crotch. The most common causes are low immunity, sexual activity, use of antibiotics that kill the 'good' bacteria, diabetes and poor hygene. The good news is yeast and similar infections are easily treated with topical creams prescribed by your doctor. Although failing that, it may be treated, albeit less convincingly, with an over the counter anti-fungal cream containing 1% clotrimazole or 1% miconazole. But be careful they do not contain hydrocortizone as this is not suitable for use on the genitals and may cause more inflammation and problems with the veins under the thin skin of the penis. However I stongly urge anyone with such a complaint to see their doctor as such irritations can be the result of more serious conditions such as 'balantis xerotica oblitarans' or 'herpes' or more serious STIs. Remember that a doctor will be professional and will always make you feel as comfortable as possible... they have seen it all before and far worse! I especially urge anyone with a tightening of the foreskin, discoloration or apparent scarring to see a doctor, as circumcision may be required if blood supply is constricted. However, circumcision is not necessary as treatment in the vast majority of penile infectons (unless the are perpetually reccuring) and is a rare solution and is a highly drastic suggestion to what is normally a simple and common problem. As long as you take an extra 30 seconds to clean behind your foreskin an uncircumcised penis can be just as happy as a circumsised one. As for the apparently alarming 'cheesy' dischrge (the appropriately named 'smegma') this is just a by product of infection or due to poor hygene and will disappear with treatment of the particular infection or improved hygine. However you should take care to clean your penis of it before and during treatment.

It is also worth noting that your sexual partners should also seek advice from their doctor as such infections can be passed backwards and forwards between partners and it is a far more serious complaint in women.

And in reply to a previous post postulating that the cause is balantis and nobody knows what causes this, you are incorrect. Balantis is the term used to include all inflammation of the skin of the glans penis (penis head) that is known to be caused by a number of factors including: candida (thrush), candida albicans, seborrhoeic dermatitis, a contact allergy (usually from latex of lubricants), as a result of diabetes or a general skin condition or irritation due to smegma from poor hygine to name just a few.

This is the advice of a 5th year medical student and does not constitute proper professional medical advice. I strongly recommend a visit to your doctor. Even if the visit is unnecessary it will give peace of mind and a trusted diagnosis; something that cannot be attained from sites such as this one. And remember, don't panic or suffer alone such conditions are common and are, in the vast majority of cases, easily treated

hi, i think im having the same problems as you guys, but im gonna post anyways, i wouldnt like to disclose my age if thats alright with you guys. ok, heres the problem, i have a kind of rash-like thing which runs in a small line vertically down my penis....and i also have some goosebumpy type things at the bottom and top (mainly bottom) of my penis. when i pull the foreskin back, the tip of the inside (can someone give me a name for the inside please?) is red-ish, but the rest is a bland colour. also, i seem to have something connected to the inner bit, and it seems to be part of the rash-like thing because its right underneath where it is on the foreskin.

can anyone tell me whats happening, and what i can do to get rid of the rash please? i wouldnt like to go to a doctor as im a bit on the young side 8-|
p.s-im not obsessively clean when it comes to my penis :$
thanks

hi, I know exactly what's going on! I was born without being circumcised so I grew up playing and exploring my body parts, nose, eyes, and yes my penis. This white cheezy stuff is normal for uncircumcised just as you have earwax or snut. They are waste accumulated inside the pocket created by extra skin or hood of uncircumcised penis. I was circumcised at age 11 and everything disappeared because there's no more pocket to collect waste. This is very normal and even some coutries have a name for this white stuff. All young boys in our neighborhood talks about it like there's nothing to it. This is absolutely normal!

"but my wang has tiny goosebump looking bumps around the head"...
I'm sure all of us guys have these. See when we were born, we were not yet circumcised and the foreskin is still attached to the entire head with little opening for peeing. As we grow up and pulls back the foreskin and retracts the head so many times in our young life, the head begins to emerge and the foreskin is pulled way to the back. In other coutries at puberty, young boys are circumcised at age 8 to 12. Boys or brothers congregate and socialize so that informations are always available as to what is normal or not. The doctor or medicine man requires that boys are ready for circumcision before he'll do it. The boy is ready only if the foreskin is pulled all the way back that the whole head emerges. The medicine man will not do it if you are not pulled all the way back. That's why young boys forced their foreskin to pullback all the way and it is extremely painful and is done little by little everyday. This is like tearing your skin. Circumcision is the rights of passage in other countries for young boys because of the pain you have to go through. Those goosebumps around the head are just scars from the foreskin that was peeled off. I'm glad my son was circumcised right after birth so he won't have to go through with all of these.

i might be able to shed a little light

i had a rash on my penis and around my balls and where the balls meet the legs.

the symptoms are cracked skin that is very itchy and the more i scratched it the worse the itch got. then it would burn like crazy which would lead to more itching.

also my foreskin was very smooth and tight, not wrinkled like it usually should be. it was painful to pull back and to masturbate.

what happens is that its a yeast infection. the smooth cracking skin is caused by the yeast infection and when we start itching the skin like crazy, it causes our body to produce calisys like the bumps on your nuckles or hand. that's where the flaky bumpy skin comes in.

so the more we scratch it, the worse the itch and the skin becomes damage and irritated and itches more.

anyways, it got so bad to the point where i could not drive my car comfortably cause the burning and itching was so bad.

i went to the doctor and the first thing he told me was to STOP ITCHING! i was prescribed a ... cream that helps the skin heal.

applied to the skin 2 x a day and it got better and better.

now the second part to this problem is YEAST infection.

the yeast infection causes the initial cracking of the skin and the burning.

what i use is miconazole nitrate vaginal cream 2%

its the stuff women use for yeast infections.

2x a day and keep using it till it goes away. MAKE SURE TO NOT ITCH!!!!

once it goes away, if for any reason it starts coming back, hit it asap with the miconazole cream again.

for the white stuff under the foreskin, its normal. think about it like this, your skin cells die off. on the body, it just falls off on the floor. in our penis the foreskin traps all the dead skin cells. the white stuff is a mix of dead skin cells, pee and natural lube from the body. also that's what my bio teacher said too. lol when she got to that part in the class... there was a DEAD SILENCE! you could hear a pin drop. so i figured everyone had the same issues :-)

the little bumps around the head of the penis is also normal. I have it too. I had it since i can remember when i was young.

also if anything rips during masturbation or sex, you probably have an yeast infection. the penis skin and the skin on the head is very loose and will allow you to fully pull back the foreskin with out any problems. We came equipped with foreskin for a reason. Personally i would never get my FS chopped off. Masturbation with out it would be hell. I never knew why people always needed lube to masturbate.... well its because they don't have the foreskin.

with the foreskin, when we masturbate the skin is not moving up and down on the penis but rather the outside layer is sliding over the inside layer giving the sensation that we are stroking the penis.

so if we didn't have foreskin, we would need lube to facilitate the actual friction between the hand and the penis.
wash it often and hit it with the cream the SECOND it starts to burn.'

also SHAVE your penis and crotch. Looks great and keeps the bacteria down. Girls love it too. nice and clean. We are not the only ones that love a clean shaven partner.

um... oh here is something else i found out.

if you are sexually active, if you have a yeast infection, your partner probably does too.

what use to happen with me and my girl is i would tackle my problem, then the day after we have unprotected sex, i would start getting itchy. or she would take care of her yeast infection and then i would give it back to her.

so make sure the both of you take a week off and tackle both problems at once. this way you don't transfer the same colony back and forth.

wash it often... i should take my own advice. 8-|

coming down with a crazy case of it again but hopefully i caught it early on. ;-)

good luck and have fun.
