Hi. I went to the doctor because I was having a very long period. He told me that bleeding for over two weeks was normal and didn't give me anything to stop the bleeding. Meanwhile I had a blood test that showed that I was anemic and had slightly low blood platlets. Soon I was able to get into the gynecologists and was put on hormones that actually stopped the bleeding, but ended up having to have a blood transfusion because my blood count was down to a six. I am assuming when you go to the ER and they draw seven viles of blood that they are doing a full blood panel. The gynecologists then looked over the blood work next time I saw him and said that everything looked okay. I am really confused. Earlier when I had gone on the internet and had seen what low blood platlets meant it freaked me out. So, when the gynecologists said that my blood work looked fine I didn't ask him specifically about the blood platlets. I guess it was my own little way of denial. When I went back and asked my friend who is a PA about my blood platlets being slightly low she said she thought it was because I was bleeding so heavily that my body wasn't having time to clot. However, my concern is maybe my body was bleeding so much because my blood platlets were a little low. I am really concerned because the one doctor who wouldn't take care of the original problem of my bleeding wanted to do all of this blood work. When I have seen doctors subsequently they all seem to think the blood work is okay. I am very confused and worried. I know I should just go to the doctor; however, I would like to know what I potentially may be looking at. I am having a hysterectomy tomorrow and I don't know how much more I can face. I am only 30 years old.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was told by my doctor to stop taking chromium. Due to the fact it reduces the blood platelets. I have not been able to find any studies on this. What can you say to me about this topic?
