Got to post this for any other woman out there who this info may help:

For the past 9 YEARS, I had a very bad vaginal odor. It did not matter how often I bathed or how long I bathed. Right out of the shower, I was still slightly smelly, and if I attempted to have a normal life and bathed 24 hours later, my disgusting vaginal odor would grow stronger until it would be tangible around me. 3 days of not bathing and I would have to keep about 5 feet away from anyone.

This was a serious problem for me, and I did not know what to do. It put a damper on my interactions with other people and I got to the point of just feeling like giving up; feeling like everything I did was useless. My hair dried out from bathing so much and nothing short of a long shower seemed to reduce the odor to managable.

I did not have any other symptoms that I could tell. Everything else vaginal and urinary appeared normal. I went to doctors about other things and got my normal pap smears and yearly check outs. Everyone of them I would tell about my problem. The docs looked at me and because I appeared normal, they didn't appear to take it seriously. I was told that I was in good health and the most one advised was for me to "douch" regularly with vinegar (which I didn't since I knew better than to try that)!

I'm nearly 50 and I've no history of gyno problems. I have been very fortunate. Light, problem free periods, one yeast infection in my twenties and a couple of bladder infections back then too. Went into menupause early 40's and completely symptom free. So, I was at wits end to figure this out!

well, last week, I started having abdominal pain, off and on, around the navel area. Nothing major at first, but slightly worse after meals. I also started having lots of trouble holding my urine and having to pee frequently. I stepped up tea intake (mistake since that irritates bladder) and water. Felt otherwise normal.

About 3 days later, I was still the same, but peeing more frequently and noticing a slight burning sensation on peeing beginning in the am. By late afternoon however, I noticed abdominal pain growing and moving to right side. By bedtime, I felt full, bloated stomach feeling and definate pain on side. Went to bed and tossed around for a few hours before realizing pain increasing and I was not going to sleep. Burning sensation stronger.

2am gave up and went to ER because I was afraid I had appendicitis. CAT SCAN, urine sample and physical check. Results: VERY BAD BLADDER INFECTION!!! Everything else okay. Given ciprofloxacn and rx for it. Couple hours later, feeling right as rain. Went back home.

Okay, so I took meds for 5 days. After day one, everything cleared up. Could pee again and manage it. No burning, no ab pain, nothing.
And, GUESS WHAT?????? One week later, and the odor is GGGGGGOOOOOONNNNNEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My God, I am so relieved, and at the same time, so peeved! Bottom line: apparently, I have had an off-and-on again, very frequent, bladder infection, for YEARS!!!! Without knowing it, because I was virtually symptom free! This is what created the bad smell!!!

I am still sitting here in a state of disbelief! Maybe if I had had more gyno problems (like most women), the docs would have done urine samples more frequently and I would have realized sooner that I am prone to urinary tract infections. Who knows? But because I did not feel symptoms other than this last time, it could have gone on indefinately. I had done research online and found linkages between odor and cancer, so I was afraid of the worst. I never suspected something so simple!

So, let this be a lesson to others. I hope someone out there in similar position reads this and that it helps you too. Thanks!

:-P
