For the last 3 weeks I have woken up every morning with a sore throat, for the first 2 weeks it was bearable and would only be in the morning, would wear off through the day. Then about 10 days ago I came down with a cold too. As the cold came on, the sore throat has been getting worse to the point of waking me up in the night. I went to my doctor 5 days ago, he checked my temperature which was fine, briefly looked in my mouth and said it was thrush. He has given me nystan which I have been taking for the last 5 days. This has made no improvement. Last night I woke at 5 am in extreme pain and could hardly swallow my own saliva. I went to A&E who again checked my temp, normal again. The doctor looked in my throat and said there was no sign of thrush, tonsillitis or any other infection. He told me to use lozenges/throat sprays etc for a few days and see if it made a difference. I have had no signs of thrush apart from a slight discoloured tongue which I have has for years and always put down to smoking. I cut down smoking a lot in the last fees days and have not touched a cigarette for 13 days now. Starting to get really fed up with how much pain I'm in and just want some answers!! Would be grateful of any help!
