About one in 100 people in the U.S. have epilepsy. About 3% to 5% of those people have photosensitive epilepsy.
Children and adolescents aged 7 to 19 are more likely to have photosensitive epilepsy. Girls are affected by the condition more often than boys. But boys tend to have more seizures. That's probably because they spend more time playing video games, a common seizure trigger.
Play attention on how much your on your computer as well, all these things can send your brain waves to confusement. I don't play video games anymore because when I do it gives me a dooms day feeling the next day or days to come.

Hey everyone,
I came across this site after researching some symptom's I've been experiencing intermittently over the past few months. A little about myself: I'm 25 years old and pretty fit. I do suffer from panic attacks, but I don't take any medication. I seem to manage them just fine without medications. I'm a firefighter/emt so staying in good shape is very important. Since about April of 2o11 I've been experiencing intermittent heart palpation's and strange chest sensations. The sensation I have is very hard to explain. I feel it in the center of my chest and it usually last about 2-5 seconds. When it happens I immediately start pacing. If I'm sitting down I jump up, which makes its extremely awkward when I'm around family or coworkers. It's a tight/squeezing/fluttering feeling I feel in the center of my chest. It usually takes my breath away, but I never get light headed. It scares the living c**p out of me. Since I got hired on the fire dept I have physicals done every year. They do blood work, EKG's, chest X-rays the full works. Every year everything is completely normal. I went to my family physician a couple months ago complaining of these palpations/chest sensations and he told me it was probably stress related. He had me do a stress test, which of course came back normal. I just purchased a home that has stressed me out some. Has anyone experienced anything like this? or know what it might be?

I've gone through these feelings monthly sometimes daily. I know what your going through and stress does take a big part in our health and even the way our brain function. I notice when I'm in a tough situation or an argument my heart behind to palputate and its a very scary feeling most of the time I will have to stop the argument or leave. When I calm down it seems to go away. I get these feeling especially when I'm stress out, I noticed I cough when I get the strange sensations and it seems to help take them away or slow them down. I hope your okay and things get better for you. Take care and let us know if you find answers to why your having them. Thanks
James

I have the same thing described, only it's very infrequent and it's been happening as long as i remember. I went into the doctor and he asked me if it causes pain, or if it leaves behind pain, both of which were no to me. I told him, it almost acts like i knocked the wind out of myself; I have trouble breathing and theres a painless flutter in my chest as others described "bump...bump...bump" and usually i sit up straight for a minute and take a deep breath or two and it goes away as quick as it came. But anyway, i described basically what everyone else has described to my doctor and he didn't seem to worried, and said it's probably just diaphragm spasms of the tube connecting to my lungs.
He said it can be a bit scary, but basically you feel out of breath and a bit of a flutter, then it just goes away. What causes it he said is a bit of acid reflux. If i recall, something causes this valve near your lungs to get irritated and spasm, and you'll have to catch your breath, then it will just stop. But what he described was pretty dead on with what happened to me.
For me it doesn't seem linked to anxiety or my heart. I distinctly remember once it happened when stepping down from a 1 stair step to lean over and pick something up and i stood up straight for a minute and as quickly as it came, it left.
Then another time when i sat down in my chair really fast it's like it jolted whatever is causing this and i had to sit up and catch my breath, then i was fine.
And that's usually how it happens for me. It's notably not linked to stress or anything for me, it's more physical like getting up or sitting down, or putting my foot down hard (i think i stomped on a beverage can, and it did it for a second or two). But yeah, no pain, but out of breath enough where i usually have to completely stop whatever i'm doing and catch my breath.

Hi All, I have had these same issues for quite some time. No doctor has ever figured them out. Spams in my chest with no pain, but scares the hell out of you. Can happen when I am walking after sitting for awhile. Happens a lot when I first lay down at night. Etc. You just can't seem to figure out if it is your esophagus, your heart, your values, your stomach, etc. I think there has be something to all these people having these symptoms. Also, amazingly a lot of people also suffer with anxiety who have this issue. After years of researching this I think it is a chemical/vitamin imbalance. I am trying magnesium supplements at this time and they seem to maybe be working. I wish us all relief from this condition.

I have the same issues. Mine started Jan of 2009. I'm 41 now. I've had it off and on for a year and then I went to the emergency room because the family doctors told me it was in my head. They checked my heart and they put an IV in me to calm me down Ativan and some acid reducer. I got better and they let me go home. Few weeks later...same thing. I went back to the emergency room and they ran a test on every part of my body that they could. Lungs, Blood test, Heart,c cholesterol, Gallbladder..I mean they tested everything. Of course everything came back perfect. Made me feel worse because they couldn't find what actually existed. They hooked me up to an IV again and gave me Ativan and an acid reducer. I felt better and they sent me home. Couple of weeks later another spasm. Went back to the emergency room and as soon as they put me in the bed my entire body violently cramped up. Couldn't move my hands. I couldn't lay flat because my chest tightened and I was bent over back wards on the bed and it felt like someone was ripping the muscles off of my bones. They took blood and found out I had an electrolyte imbalance. They put the IV back in me and gave me a saline drip and put Ativan and an Acid reducer to calm me down and came to the conclusion that acid sitting in my chest and having an electrolyte imbalance which regulates muscle control was probably causing my issues. So after they got my electrolytes in order they sent me home with ativan and dexilant for acid. My doctor gave me Lorazapam which is Ativan and I took it every day since 2010 along with a bottle of Gatorade each day. Now one spasm. Also I stopped eating and drinking by 8pm each night. I stopped drinking Gatorade a couple of weeks ago for the electrolytes and I've been eating and drinking up to 9:30pm the past couple of weeks and my spasms came back and it's lasted two days straight so far. I started drinking Gatorade again and I feel little better on day 2. Not back to myself yet, but it seems to be working

To anyone who wants to save their lives take magnesium 250-500mg. Take them before going to sleep. Over 90% of people in the world are magnesium deficient and will die because of the lack of magnesium in the body. Stop the twitching in your eyes and muscle spasms in your shoulders and legs. Stop the heart Palputations. If the heart doesn't have enough magnesium to function right it starts to pull the magnesium from any where it can, from your muscles your brain or any place it can. Most pepple die because of the lack of magnesium there system. A blood test will not show if your magnesium deficient because they body is using whatever you have left from your muscles or other area keeping a good level in the blood which is where they'll do the test from blood work. People who get taking to the hospitals for a heart attacks are giving a high dose of magnesium to keep them alive. Please take this very serious and take magnesium and you will see the difference. If it makes you feel funny while taken them during the day; take them while you sleep and wake up to a new life.
Coffee, alcohol, sugar, caffeine will cause your levels of magnesium levels to go down.

I experienced same and went to see the doctor who prescribed some tests; ecg, ekg, blood works. They have all come out ok except the slightly thickened left ventricle due to high blood pressure. The doctor says its nothing to worry about but because i know about the high blood pressure i am always worried that the spasm is due to my elevated blood pressure...No pains from the spasm but just scary and before i can even place my hand on my chest, its gone....typically lasts about 1sec or less in most cases.

I take a proton pump inhibitor as my excessive stomach acid creates havok in my body. I attempted to go off the medication in favour of a natural remedy and the spasms/flutters came back with a vengeance. I was up to a flutter/spasm every minute until I went back on the medication. Per this thread I have been taking a multivitamin, and that along with the medication (tecta) has given me incredible results. I haven't had a spasm/flutter in several days now. This thread provided me support when I found it during the peak of my spasm/flutter issue and so I wanted to return and tell my story. I should also mention I am also subject to anxiety attacks and do have medication for that now as well. I hope this helps someone out there :)
