I stopped taking birth control in March of 2005. After about 5 months of being off the pill before my period would start I would spot for 1 or 2 days and then my period would start. Recently the spotting has lasted a lot longer than 2 days. It has been up to 8 days and then my normal cycle starts. The spotting is always brown colored and very light. I had a miscarriage in April 2006. This kind of bleeding isn't like that. My period isn't supposed to start for 7 days and I have started to spot. I have been to my gynocologist and had a pap smear and blood taken. My thyroid is fine and my pap smear was too. I have read a lot about what the problem could be but don't really have any answers.
I am 38. I have 4 kids. I am experiencing the same thing. It s been going on for a year now. I have seen my doctor and my pap smear came back normal. I am going back to the doctor s on sept. 26. I m also looking for an answer.

i had very similar problems for 2 years. i already one child who is now 4 years old, but after 1 1/2 years of having her i meet my current partner. i have suffered 3 miscarriages last one being in April 2006. my cycle would be 28 days, i would have my period, be ok for a week then spotting would start, normally after sex, and would continue up until my period. the spotting colour would vary from bright red (fresh) to brown (old). i hated it it got me down so much. in the end i was refered to a gynocologist in november and had my cervix frozen, this is where they burn off the skin cells around the opning to your cervix, and it worked, i have no bleeding now apart from periods.

This is exactly what I am experiencing!! I get an annual exam every year, and my last pap smear was normal. I went off of birth control about 5 or 6 months ago, and am actively trying to get pregnant (and have never been pregnant in the past).

I have been tracking ovulation using the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor, so I know pretty accurately on which day I am ovulating. In a normal month I start spotting about 10 days after I ovulate, and then have a more regular period flow a few days later. This month, however, I started spotting 5 days early - only a week after I ovulated. I have been spotting 8 days now - today it was a little heavier - like a regular/light period day. Today would be the day that I would regularly bleed pretty heavily during a normal period.

I have no idea what is going on - but I'm feeling kind of comforted that I'm not the first woman in history to experience this! Have you figured out yet what is going on with you? If this continues much longer, I am planning to make an appointment with my doctor. My next annual exam is due soon too, and I will definitely ask at that time what is going on, if not before then!

I did think that I could be pregnant, but with the somewhat heavier bleeding today I'm not so sure. I've taken a pregnancy test, but it came out negative. I suppose that with the timing it is possible that it's simply too early to show up on a home pregnancy test. It's just so weird!
