So, when I was about 15, I started noticing these. I didn't inherit them from my parents, as neither of them have EVHC. Soon after getting off of Accutane, they started showing up, and got worse very rapidly. Before seeing a doctor, I did what I think many with EVHC do, and I tried to extract them myself-- to the point where I couldn't put a shirt on the next day. I went to see my dermatologist, and she biopsied one that I had not messed with, and soon diagnosed me. She began removing them with that circular knife/ hole puncher almost? And, would then stitch them up. The scars from those ended up worse than the ones from me attacking myself. Through the years, the few that have gone away on their own would swell up and cause a pretty good amount of pain, and those scars are the worst! They are the flattest, but the darkest, for sure. I have kept up on medical journals for years now. I tried the laser treatment, but it didn't show any signs of improvement, and it was so expensive. Every doctor I have seen doesn't want to do anything. I'm guessing because they don't want to be liable for adverse side effects when there is very little proof of anything working. So, to keep myself from essentially mutilating my body for the rest of my life, I decided I was going to try and find a way to, at the very least, minimize the noticeability. The one treatment that seems to have some success is the 12% lactic acid treatment. I haven't seen anything for TCA, which is the chemical peel I decided to go with since it is supposed to work deeper, and some of mine are not right at the surface. So, I bought 100%, but have diluted it to the point where it barely burns when I use it, and I use it every day. Applying all over the affected areas with a piece of cotton. I wear gloves, because my fingers peeled a little bit the first week. Haha. But! Not only have 2 cysts dried out and I barely squeezed and the whole sac came out!! No pain! Just worked. I don't know if I'm getting lucky or something, but a cyst on my lower back that I didn't know was there has surfaced and is now getting smaller! Plus, the scars are all starting to fade. It's been 3 weeks since I started treating them. Even if the cysts seeming to improve is just coincidence, at least the scars are fading! A few notes: I have kept the affected areas out of the sun for over a year, obviously continuing to do so while I am trying this. I rub lotion and antibacterial ointment on 10 minutes after every day and gently exfoliate twice a day in the bathtub. I don't want to get anyones hopes up, but so far, I'm pretty shocked that something is actually making even a slight difference. I had gotten so defeated, especially after noticing new ones! Hopefully, they find a surefire treatment for us one day!

Hi I had little bumps on my chest after puberty and they were tiny and not noticable. Eventualy they started to get a little bigger but not that big but but started to become noticable. I would put acne cream on them with no effect at all. I googled what it could be and only thing I could find was sebacous cysts and on some forum a lady was saying she put a heating pad on her cyst and it went away after some time. I had many cycts so I tryd th heating pad and the cysts have metled and been absorbed back into my body. They havent gone away completly but they do go away but slowly. Just got to keep at it every day. Some have dissapeared the bigger ones are a lot smaller. I hope maybe this helps other people and maybe this is a cheap solution that leaves no scars. I put a damp towl on my heating pad and put it on for about an hour a day. I get lazy but its worth it. Please tell me if it works for you.
I was diagnosed with SM last month and the doctor recomended extrcting them then doing a lazer but I dont want scars for two session of 400 each. I told her about the heating pad and she said that could enflame them but that has happened only once or twice for me. Idk how the reaction would be for others but Im going to keep on doin the heating pad and eventualy they will all be gone by the end of the year.

Just wanted to ask, since your method seems to simple I would like to try it for myself...can you provide more details about how you are going about this?
Does it have to be a certain temperature? What happens when the cysts became inflamed?
And most importantly, how long do you have to do this for before you begin seeing any results (for example, shrinking of the cyst)? Can you provide an approprimate time frame for others to try out?
Thanks Jay, and good luck everyone, please continue pushing our doctors and looking for ways to rid this horrible disease.

Does changing your diet, like cutting out all dairy products and meats enhanced with hormones actually improve the condition a little bit? Or were all of the posts regarding doing that hypothetical.

I've posted on the other SM thread, i'm determined to find a "cure" for SM. A real cure requires gene therapy, which is not feasible in the near future, but prevention of spreading and ridding exisitng cysts permanently is scientifically possible.
I'm going to exhaust all possible methods to fight this disease, and i'm asking the help of the community. I understand all of you have jobs and lives to carry on with. However, i've thrown away everything in life to dedicate my time to this.

I dont require any of you to "like" the page, but please visit it as i will be posting alot of questions like experience of surgical methods/laser/diet methods, accutane pills, new tech and i would like to collect as much data as possible from everyone to establish a average % success rate of each method being tried.
the email contact is posted on that page, if you have SM, do email me. So i can collect data on tried methods
I will be posting my own experience, gathered information.
There is so little research on SM. There could be possible patterns in our lifestyle, diet, weight, bmi that cause us to have SM , genetic mutation(unless yours was inherited, mine wasn't)
so PLEASE help me, to help you. Hopefully with enough data and experience and my time in this matter i will be able to find a method that we can live our lives without the fear of having being scared or filled with cysts on our entire bodies.

Im 32 years old and also have an inflamed Steato cystoma .My doctor didn't advice for any excision or even laser since she was telling me that it is impractical..for my inflamed cyst she prescribed an anti-biotic and a vitamin C.Try to avoid also using body scrub, whitening soap and harsh lotion. As i observed with my Dermatologist and even my Oncologist .. they are not taking seriously about my case of what i must need to do with this mess all over my body.I am vegetarian but they cant keep it on multiplying every time I am stress the following weeks another cyst again will goes out...I am very sad and dont know how to face this..because my Doctor said I should expect it on multiplying. It looks very unpleasant.
