 I too got sterioid injections in upper leg/hip area (one time only) and 9 months later my divets have grown to be huge craters...about 3 inches wide and 3/4 inch deep and look bruised. It is skin on bone, all fat and muscle are gone. I was not even told it was a steroid shot, thought it was for pain and not given any indication that there were side effects as you can bet I would not have done this if I thought there was a 5% chance in deformity. I can no longer wear a swim suit and am not comfortable being seen by my spouse. It is so ugly and more importantly so painful. Now I am in more pain than ever. Why is this not being investigated by the FDA? It appears there are so many of us out there and this is a travesty for sure. My Dr. doesn't think there is anything that can be done nor can plastic surgery help. She also said insurance would consider it cosmetic which is strange as it was no fault of my own and is an actual accidental injury. Is there anything we can do? I can't belive I have to just accept this pain! I know how you feel Ghill :cry:I stumbled onto this site by chance I was suprised I have always felt like I was the only person who felt like this. I recieved injections in hospital as a baby from what I was told the large dents appeard after the injections my parents were not told what these injections were and were just relieved I recovered ok from bronhilitis. I too get pain in one of the divots and its VERY sensitive if I knock or lean on it. the worst part though is that I can never wear a swim suit or even tight fitting clothes I feel so self concious and cant stand the sight of my own body it really does affect your life in many ways.

I just happened to google this, seeing 2 large dimples in my butt, couldn't figure it out, then after investigating on line, thought about it, had 2 steriod shots in the past yr or 2, it's awful!! yes all snug clothing shows it, what can be done about it. It scared me, thought I might have cancer or something........I took the shot once for pain and it worked, the 2nd time, it didn't, I don't think my Dr know about this, My Dr is great, I'll show it to him next time. Anyway, i guess we're stuck with huge cave ins on our butts...........

Im so glad I found this site. I suffered a severe sun burn this summer. I went to my dermatologist in July. He injected cortisone into my right buttock. I too now have a two inch crater and it feels grainy. Upon questioning him he didn't seem too concerned like I have been but He has been tracking the progression  and it seems to be getting worse. Yesterday he injected saline into the area and the spot filled in within hours. However, its caused what looks like a hematoma, on top of that he said it was pigmented with freckles. He isnt sure of the cause of the freckles but did assume it was the pigment trying to surface.  I hope the saline continues to keep its fill, however im now concerned with a hemotoma.  I was never advised of the risks or side effects. I get mini injections for my acne and have never had one issue. I assume this was a more concentrated and higher dose.  I hate that the cure isnt worth it.  The sunburn disappeard right after the shot.. months later, I am dealing with this issue. No pain thankfully but it is still not pleasing to the eye.  Thank you for all of these entries. I feel better and not so alone

For anyone with a dent..... go back to the Dr. and have him inject a series (once a week for a few months) of saline injections to the dent. Mine has finally filled in. There is a study online about it... I printed it out and took it to him.

I got a cortisone shot in my RIGHT JAW last January 2012 for TMJ.  About 10 seconds later I had such a severe reaction, I had difficulty breathing, extreme nausea, dizziness and the room started spinning.  Despite my condition the doctor had me leave his office. I had to call 911. They took me to a hospital where the staff was so filthy and idiotic, I just somehow stumbled home.  Two days later, I went to the ER at Cedars-Sinai and they ended up keeping me for 6 days!!!   Ever since then, I have developed swelling and numbness on the right side of my face.  In addition, I have now developed many allergies I never had before. (For instance, I ate some salmon last night, and woke up with a red rash on the RIGHT SIDE OF MY FACE ALONG WITH SWELLING OF THE RIGHT EYE.  I was also very nauseous and got very bad diarrhea.)  The right side of my face is swollen and sagging.  Of course when this first happened I called the doctor and he wouldn't even get on the phone with me!  He just had his secretary say the shot had nothing to do with it and he didn't even bother to check on me in the hospital!   on the  Every couple of days I'll even develop allergy symptoms swelling of face, and closing of throat, extreme difficulty breathing.  I now have to carry LIQUID BENADRYL with me at all times! Could someone please help me with this?  PLEASE !!!  Thank you very much.  D.S.

Maybe it will work for you all as it has for me. I got a shot of steroids in the Burt a few years ago. I slowly developed an indent and it stayed that way for well over a year. But went away... only think I could think of that did it is I joined the army so was working out like crazy in basic and they were overloading me on carbs and protein.

I got a shot 7 months ago and 2 days ago I woke up with literally a hole the size of a golf ball in my left hip joint. Every doctor that has seen it says they have never seen such a thing. It is not painful but it is the exact spot where I got a shot. People that see it freak out. It is at least 3 inches deep and 3 inches wide... I got an MRI today , but as I right now know one knows what it is. I just hope it goes away. It is creepy and looks like my hip got constructive surgery. It's freaky and I can't believe this could have happened from a shot. It's unbelievable. I'm worried that plastic surgery is the only answer my hole is so big on my left hip. I posted a picture online and so many people said it was the craziest picture thu have eve seen. The whole is so deep I can feel the tip of my femur bone, literally not covered by any fat or cushion anymore.

I just found that I had a dent on my right buttox from steroid shot. Decadron and methyprednisolone. I am considering consult with a dermatologist about my option. Some people here mentioned the saline infiltration treatment. Is it helping? How soon did you start the treatment? How soon do you see improvement, if any? Please, reply. I am scared.

My story is the exact same as yours. I thought I was dying of some horrible disease when I was told today that I was given steroids at my dr. in November. I am furious, sad, and all inbetween. Had they told me, I would have not done it. Plus she told me that the shot was administered wrong and that is why it happened.

I got a few shots over 3 years in side of my knee. I have a crater now too and intense pain in the knee as it feels like bone over bone. This happened to my shoulder too. Eventually, the skin filled in but this is a real bummer. Has yours filled in yet?

Hello,

I received two injections of Kenalog (May 2012 and July 2012) for allergic rhinitis. In February of 2013, the atrophy showed at the injection site of my upper left buttock. I am at the point now where the atrophy is causing severe discomfort when I am sitting or lying on my side. I visited University of Michigan dermatology today. I showed the physicians all of my research related to saline infiltrations. Yet, they are still skeptical to try this simple technique. If anyone could recommend a physician that is familiar with this technique or practices this technique, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks so much,

BG

Hello,
Would you mind sharing your experience with the saline injections? I live in Michigan and am having a hard time getting a Dr. to agree to trying the saline.

Thanks so much!
