Hi,

I am 37 yr old male and recently have been on some heavy antibiotics for a recent urinary tract infection.  Ever since those medications, which was about 3weeks ago, I've been experiencing a lot of nasuea.  On top of the nausea, at least once a day my stomach all the sudden gets really bloated and very hard.  I actually have a tough time breathing and relaxing when this happens.  Also I end up going to bathroom 4 times in that two hours and my stools have been black.  I usally have to take two- 1mg Ativan to calm me down and after 2hours I start to feel better.  I have eliminated caffenine and soda from diet.  I am anxiety pronged, but usually not real bad until I have trouble breathing.  I know there is a stomach bug going around but this seems awful long for that.  I've tried the probiotics to replace good bacteria, this hasn't worked for me yet.  Some people are telling me I might have IBS.  Has anyone had these problems?

thanks

God Bless!

I'm afraid that you will have to see a doctor - black stools are one of the signs that there might be some bleeding in your stomach, such as when you have an ulcer, and very hard stomach is one of the signs that also might point towards gastro-intestinal bleeding. Since I've had stomach ulcer, one of the first warnings they gave me was to watch for black stools. Have you been taking any painkiller medications? And which antibiotics did you take? Also, to minimize irritation, besides caffeine and sodas, stay away from acidic food/drinks like tomato, lemon and strong spices.
