I think this could be because lexapro reduces your sex drive, so stopping would suddenly bring all the sensitivity back. I don't know about you, but I find it hard to ejaculate on lexapro, so I'm sure the opposite happens when you stop. It would only be temporary though.

I was on 30mg of lexapro due to high anxiety which kept me from sleeping I ended up stopping my meds due to loss of income. I have been having major withdrawls myself. Light headed dizziness hot flashes occasional buzzing in the ears nausiated and a slight fever. Good news with stopping my anxiety also went down lol but I am more tired. I didnt have the option to ween off the meds so it was a cold turkey stop.

i stopped taking lexapro for 3-4 days... now i'm a total mess. can't sleep, i feel hot and tired and dead to the world. i have these bad dreams, crazy disturbing dreams. last one was me killing my family. when i wake up i feel like i've been ran over by a truck. so hard to get up in the morning. so back to the crazy days and i just dont care anymore. i used to suffer from anorexia and bulimia, was diagnosed with depression, anxiety and anhedonia - so it's only right that i dont feel anything at all. my husband is in a mental health clinic at the moment, so must be a match made in heaven.

Hello All,

I just left the ER today due to dizziness, light-headedness, balance issues, and electric-shock type headaches. I was told by my GP that I needed to be checked for a brain tumor, MS, as well as a brain bleed. I completely terrified as I waited for the results. Turns out that all of my scans were clear and negitive for anything abnormal. The only thing I had done was stop taking Lexapro last week, cold turkey. I was told that I may have A-Typical migraines, and should be on an asprine regimine to rule out mini-stroke episodes; however, I am a 32 year old woman, and there is no HX of stroke in my family and all three of my scans, contrast and non-contrast were negative for stroke or stroke damage. I wanted to offer voice of reassurance to anyone out there who may be scared for health as I was and let them know that Lexapro is can produce very scary side effects. Please take a deep breath, I wish I had found this forum earlier. Best wishes all.

Cymbalta is SO much worse! Made me feel like a zombie. Walking around numb, but still uncomfortable. Sweaty, tired, didn't care about anything. Find something else!

I also am really glad I am not the only one who is experiencing flu like symtoms, brain zaps, etc.  My question is what are you taking to make the side effects more tolerable?  i cant stay home from work for a month so this can pass, but I was on ALL different medications for over 20 years, and have come to realize, since I never really thought about suicide (it started out as baby blues) I truly believe the Prozac they gave me, gave me anxiety - which got me reeled in ever since!  I am now 44 and dont need these drugs, my problem is I cant seem to get passed the nausa and the just crappy feeling?

Anyone have any ideas?

Wow at first i thought i was going crazy! I have been taking lexapro for many years, and there would be times were i run out and would miss a couple doses. This is when i would start getting the flu like systems, nausea , dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, chills, and more. I would also be very emotional and would get irritated very easily. I was only taking lexapro for my anxiety, and not so much for the depression, but when i would miss more then one dose i would feel very lifeless and sad. I decided to talk to my doctor about it, and she procided to tell me that it was all in my head, and missing a couple doses shouldn't do this to me. I am scared to stop taking it because of how horrible i feel after only missing two days of it. i can't imagine missing more.

I have been taking 20mg Lexapro for about four years now. I was able to get them for free while living in Colorado Springs through a low income program. Now I'm living in Florida and am unable to get them free. I currently can't find work and can't afford almost $4 a pill. So cold turkey it is. After 3 days, I started feeling extreme fatigue, chills, panic, tingly nerve ends. I am on Lexapro for panic attacks. If you have never had one, it's like having the symptoms of a heart attack minus the pain. It makes me scared to sleep and not wake up. A trip to the ER got me a prescription for Lexapro, but I could only afford ten pills. Not sure what to do. I am also very overweight which makes me worry more. I'm 37 years old and want to live!

I stopped taking Lexapro and don't feel any different.  No withdrawal side effects.  It's been 4 days.  Maybe it was never working for me in the first place?

This is exactly the state that I am in today. I have just called the doc and am going in tomorrow to meet with him. I am still so exhausted and have major vertigo issues going on. I have been off for about 2 weeks and am not sure if I should start taking something else. The only reason I titrated myself off was because of the side effects I started to endure which I guess is normal if you have been on taking it for a while (3 yrs.) Good luck and hope you start feeling better soon.

I have been taking lexapro for about 9 months now, it felt like after a few weeks or months of taking it everyday I would randomly get depressed again and wouldn't move or do anything but eat and lay around.  I then started taking it every other day but after a while of doing that I would get the electrical surge feeling going through me and I would also spuraticaly get very angry where the smallest thing could make me go off.  So I started taking it everyday again but my insurance company dropped lexapro from my coverage and will only cover the costs of an off brand which causes me to get very nauseous, so I am now kinda forced to quit taking it.  I now feel super tired all the time, even after I had just slept for 10 hours and after I had just taken a nap, I also still get the electric surge feeling and since i'm too tired to do most things I find myself sitting and eating but I feel like I could control the eating.  However, I have managed to not stay as depressed and I have high hopes of completely getting over the side effects.

I absolutely agree with you. I decided that I needed to stop all meds my Doc gave to me. Lexapro was the 1st, I didn't feel any difference in my moods or anxiety while being on it so what is the point. To put a chemical in my body that alters my brain...kinna doesn't make sense but you trust your Doc and give it a try. I stopped it a week ago, I was on 10mg. Any emotion I have is magnified! I could cry about 10 different times a day! I am gonna hang in their and know that this will pass. Each day will get better and better. I feel like I won the battle already because I figued it out and made a decision to stop putting any pill in my body besides what is in a health food store!
