Hi. I noticed some red lines around the side of hips, I ignored them and thought it was just stretch marks. A few months later, and I notice I still have them. They look like scars but they are not sore to touch. Could someone please tell me what this is? It's much appreciated.

i'm a 14 year old girl and i have the same thing, i'm not overweight, and i'm really scared, do they fade after puberty? can someone help me please

I'm 19 and I've had these ever since puberty. I would like to tell you they go away... but I've been waiting a while. I do weigh around 210 but I am 6 ' 2, so I don't think it is from being overweight. But I have been depressed and under stress (intense amounts) ever since I was 9. If I would offer any advice, it would be to try hard in >HIGH SCHOOL< and >COLLEGE<. Junior High is useless, so don't stress out about that and just enjoy being a kid. And I would honestly suggest smoking weed. (but wait a couple years for that) Not only is weed healthy for you, but it will also help reduce stress. If you have any questions just e-mail me at _[removed]_. Good luck.

I think that it is the reason mentioned above. I have recently grown from nearly 5'6 to 6'4 in the past 2 years and have never had them before. I believe they are basically stretch marks and any related pain could go under growing pains.

I have this too and I am only 13. I have had them for about a year. I know it isn't from gaining weight because I just lost alot of weight. They have faded some, but they are definately still there.%-) I am VERY confused, and haven't been able to find a solution. I know this hasn't been commented on in a while, and I was checking to see if anyone has found a solution...

I've had these for about, maybe three years now. They're vertical scars at the top of my outer thighs, slightly lighter and shinier than my normal skin tone in appearance. When they first showed up, they were a dark red-purple. I'm not overweight, nor have I gained or lost a lot of weight recently.

As others have posted, these are definitely striae (stretch marks). It's nothing to worry about. Unfortunately they'll never go away completely, but the color will disappear in time and you will barely notice them unless you have a darker skin tone.

It's not just weight gain/loss that can cause striae - it can be due to growth spurts, hormonal changes (such as stress or puberty). If you're a teenager, then you probably have stretch marks somewhere on your body. It's an extremely common thing.

Don't worry about it, they're perfectly natural and not dangerous!
