It's so bizarre that this thread has been happening for 3.5 years and no one has gotten anywhere close to a solid medical answer for what these foreign objects are, what they're made of, or why our bodies are making and expelling them. I first noticed mine roughly 5 years ago during a master cleanse. The cleanse lasted for 10 days and I stopped counting these objects when I got to 30. I've noticed them once or so a week ever since. Mine are rather large, about 2/3" long, square with rounded edges. They're always the same size, shape, color, and always float, are orange on the outside and white cheesecake-like on the inside. They are sticky and have a somewhat see-through coating. The first one I sent to the path lab dissolved when they put it in a solution to preserve it, so they weren't able to test it. I'm awaiting the report of the second one I sent in.

My doctor had never seen nor heard of such a thing and my gastro (who said he's done 400+ colonoscopies for people who have poop problems and weird stuff going on) had never seen nor heard of such a thing. I was starting to think that I should be some kind of special case study until I found this forum.

The only thing I have in common with any of these other posts (and I read them all) is that I've taken a 24 hour decongestant every day of my life since this has been happening. Guess I'm going to dissolve one in water as the other posts suggest to see if these could be pill casings. I also really love the results that stoolsleuth got from the dye experiment. Congrats Stoolsleuth for giving us more results from your kitchen than any path lab has been able to produce. I'm leaning more toward the side of casein....which leads me to my next question....why is the only medical study/report that I can find online about casein in stool over 100 years old??

If I get any exciting case breaking results from my path lab reports, I'll post them for you all.....but I'm not getting my hopes up....

I'm sorry but I must correct my previous post: I think my curds are in fact unprocessed Wal-itin pills.

After re-reading some old posts here and elsewhere, I decided to test my Wal-itin D allergy pills for the ability to form curd-like blobs. They aren't gel-caps and don't have any visible coating, so I didn't think they could possibly make the gelatinous curds I've been seeing. But after leaving them in a glass of water overnight, they looked very much like a curd (though it smelled much better and was still white/clear throughout). I ran the coomassie blue and alizarin red indicator tests on it with the same results as before. I would speculate that given my IBS and short time between stuff coming in and going out, they just aren't getting broken down before they're purged.

So, three lessons:
1. Even pills that don't seem to contain gelatin can gel up (maybe the cornstarch?).
2. Don't be afraid to re-test your hypotheses, or your feces, when you have additional data.
3. YMMV

I just had my first experience today. It really freaked me out. It was orange in color, lima bean shape (looked almost like a gummy candy), and was the size of a corn nut. almost thought it was a corn nut but i knew i hadnt eaten a corn nut in ages. no mucus but have experience mucus over the past few weeks. i tried squeezing it but it did nothing so i squeezed it with all i had and it just collapsed like smashing a gummy bear. i am not diabetic and do not take metaform. i read another forum where a physician had suggested maybe having to do with polyps? but he said he couldnt be sure without an exam. i did just recently have a stomach xray and am scheduled for an endoscopy for a possible polyp but this was before my experience tonight. ill have to bring it up to my specialist and see what he has to say. i am lactose intolerant but i usually dont eat anything with dairy bcuz the affects are too painful so i don't see it being casein unless its in non dairy products. i dont know too much about casein. didnt know what it was until my research over the past hour. ive actually been having many problems/symptoms lately and can not piece it together. not sure if their even related. any information that might help me would be greatly appreciated. thanks. glad im not the only one.

Google search brought me here and solved the mystery. I began drinking whey protein smoothies recently, which apparantly resulted in casein in stool. Thanks!

I keep losing my reply to this thread somehow.  Oh well, third times a charm!!!   Please check out Cholesterol Gallstones if you do not fit any of the other criteria on this site.  This type of 'stone' is not hard but soft, spongy etc, and matches with the topic very closely.  They are insoluble fat that is not broken down properly by bile.  Nothing to do with diet or meds, just an unfortunate result of some intestinal systems gone afoul.  Silent, most stones are not diagnosed until looked for on an MRI or similar specifically looking into the gallbladder.  The cholesterol type can be dissolved with a new type of medicine AND YES people still get them even when gallbladder has been removed.  Same reasoning, they just place themselves elsewhere.
They remain harmless unless like other stones they become blocked in the system and cause quite a bit of pain and discomfort.  So, if none of these other reasons seem to match up with your own history (capsules, timed released meds, intolerance to the milk by products, etc) try looking into Cholesterol Gallstones.  There are other varieties of gallstones but this one seems to resemble this topic the most.

I have been having  these same yellow balls.  They look like round corn kernals and float.  I find it funny that there is not an answer yet, but glad I am not the only one. I recently stared taking metformin and prestiq which are  two medications that are suspect.  I am going to also look up mucous lumps, barretts esophagus, casein and cholesterol gallstones which are the varies culprits mentionned as well.

I am a caregiver and the girl that I support threw up 3 perfectly pill-shaped whitish-clear jelly things today. She does not take the medication mentioned in previous replies, but does take Keppra ER for a seizure disorder. These things were thrown up 6 hours after being taken, however, and she has thrown up several times with me and I have never seen this! Anyone else have an experience more similar to this? Btw- her family has been informed, and it's up to them if they want to do anything about it.

Trying not to freak out!!!! I've researched everything people suggested and have not had much luck. I take a generic concerta, iron, super b complex, antioxidant, folic acid, WAL-ITIN D and nexium or prilosec. I too excreted a orange/redish gummy bear like object. It was aprox. 1" long and 1/2" wide. White semi-gritty substance inside. Judging by majority of us who take medications or supplements I would have been satisfied with those who are saying it is the undigested pills but there are several out there that don't take anything. I don't think it's a gallstone of any kind based on my research of the appearance though of course I'm not a doctor and I could be wrong. however my object does not match the description of anything I've found outside of this site. Has anyone gotten an answer yet?!

I am on metformin for PCOS as well. I also deal with stomach issues, so I throw up every day. I threw up the jelly bean type thing this morning. From what I understand, it is the casing of the tablet. The tablet turns into a jelly bean type texture once in your stomach. When the medicine is released, the bean still sits there, and is not fully digested. It will not harm you.

I have had these same issues and finally found this site where others are experiencing it! While I do not throw up, I deal with loose stools and see these every day. I guess I will start counting hem as I take 4 metformin pills a day. Although my pills do not have a casing....I also wondered is it fat from the new oils our chips ect are "baked " in? I have heard that theory as well. I do eat a lot of baked lays....

THE ANSWER... there is no one answer!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It's probable a multitude of answers. I've noticed the descriptions are varied (except for "something floating in stool"). I have seen everything from "small white curds", to "Chiclet shaped", to "oblong", to "like a birds egg", to "lima bean shaped", and etc. Most likely, for the affected people, they are there all the time, it’s just during bouts of diarrhea they are more evident

I posit that just as there are a variety of symptoms, there are a variety of causes.

For me, it seems to be the metformin XR. For others taking any kind of medicine, I’d recommend the previously mentioned “water test” or the more comprehensive “lemon juice and water test”.

I’ve been around the web awhile, and usually know dependable sites. If your go to MedlinePlus, a service of the US National Library of Medicine and the National Instututes of Health (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/) I believe most people will find their answers. Go there, do a search for “tablet” & “stool”, and you’ll get 209 results. Add a medication you’re on, and get fewer results. The point is, for most of these listed medicines, if you search down the page you’ll find something to the effect ofif you are taking certain extended-release tablets (Afeditab CR, Procardia XL), you may notice something that looks like a tablet in your stool. This is just the empty tablet shell, and this does not mean that you did not get your complete dose of medication.”

For the people NOT taking meds, it could be the casein, stuff precipitating out of the stomach, or other issues.

At any rate, I’m not going to worry any more.

Should I be concerned that I took the pill in question at around 11am and eliminated it through a bowel movement at 7:30 pm the same day? That seems really fast to me, and I don't know how this is possible, but I swear my sinus problem seems better, but if the pill went undigested, how could my symptoms be relieved by that pill? I guess that part is in my imagination like a placebo.

Thank you so much for your post. I have been taking Metformin XR tablets at bedtime as treatment for PCOS. I also have been experiencing these bean-like masses in my stool. I will ask my doctor is any of his other patients have these symptoms with Metformin (even though Doctor's are so clueless sometimes). I mean I had to see your post for possible answers. Thanks again.
