I am also a diabetic and take Metformin er and had a spongy white looking capsule floating in my diarrhea like stool. It was scary and alarming. I'm glad there are others who've experienced similar results. I am going to try the test ( water, pill, and lemon juice) to try to put my mind at ease. Thanks for all posts.

I have not been on any sort of medication for a few months now because I'm pregnant. When I stopped taking Metformin, these objects in my stool disappeared.
I have been taking Metformin XR tablets at bedtime as treatment for PCOS. I also have been experiencing these bean-like masses in my stool. Do you mind telling me if you were able to get pregnant on your own before you stopped taking the Metformin?
I was on Metformin for PCOS and was able to get pregnant on it. I am now 18 weeks pregnant and still taking the Metformin. Normally, you would continue taking it until 12 weeks, but my doctor is having me stay on it to help prevent gestational diabetes (runs in the family.) So far so good!

Anyhow.....if there is anyone who could be an example of what this object could be..it would be me. I've got a long history of health issues, medications of the present and those I've been on before...the type of diet I have and the fact that this started happening only recently...will provide clues, at the very least, as to what this may be.
Okay. My body has never really functioned properly since I can remember. Constipation/diarreah, abdominal pain, fatigue, malabsorption..all plagued me during my childhood and continue today. But lots of things have changed over time.
I was misdiagnosed with IBS, then a new doctor sent me to a Gastroenterologist who diagnosed me with Crohn's disease. Within a month I went downhill and almost died because I couldn't eat without vomiting. I couldn't even walk and I almost couldn't keep water down. I had resection surgery...removed the ileum and I got better...for a while. Crohn's is known to just randomly recur as there really is no official cure.
So now..I must take supplements for iron and vitamin b12. The removal of the ileum means the body won't be able to absorb b12 normally, or bind the bile into solids. Thus diarreah continues so I was prescribed colestipol to bind it. Large horse pills that would get stuck in my esophagus and leave my throat sore. I then got the medication in powder form to take with food. The first time I put it in my oatmeal...later that day..a couple hours I first noticed the strange green colored carrot thing in the toilet after a bathroom break. Color isn't a concern here for me because it's usually green or reddish depending on whether I had red or blue powerade. I ignored it that time. Just thought that was normal for this medication. It didn't happen too often though.
So, here's a sad truth. I forget my medication alot and I accept the consequences for it, but that's another story I don't need to go into. Point is...today...I only had my mercaptopurine (lowers white blood cell count for autoimmuno disorders), pill to reduce acid reflux, and an OCT Claritan-D. I planned on taking my colestipol at home instead of at work. I drink tea and powerade almost everyday and so that seems to have nothing to do with this. In fact I've had tea since I was a child.
Anyways, I saw that thing in the toilet again and curiosity won me over. So I used a massive wad of toilet paper I molded to press the object in half...I got it out safely and cleanly. It was odd. Smooth and rounded on all sides but one side was flat...inside was white like it was curdled mozzarella cheese.
Now I'm really concerned. I really want to believe it's because of the colestipol...but it just isn't consistent with the timeline and circumstances of everything else.
I'm wondering if it's some kind of organ problem from my nutritional issues. Low iron isn't likely because I've been that way a long time. Perhaps low b12 since the body only has a small reserve amount. It must be regularly absorbed from food. Low b12 is a serious problem. It can lead to permanent neurological damage, and even Parkinson's disease. In general memory loss, fatigue, crankiness and dizziness. I have all those general problems and have been using b12 patches. It really helps.
My point is that a body lacking vital nutrients and minerals will malfunction. I'm trying to decide if this round object is a result of deficiency or really just from the medication. I'll have to go see me GI about this and get a professional opinion either way, but this just doesn't seem like it's a side effect from medication. I mean...the solid form of the colestipol didn't start this...So...it's really confusing. I pray it's not a parasite but I just want an answer so I don't have to worry anymore.
Hope this helps. Ask me any questions if you want. I have good records on my health and perhaps if there are details that show consistent between the affected, we may have a better idea of what's going on.

The spongy white stuff in the stool when taking glumetza is the outer cover of the capsule. This outer cover does not dissolve. I put a capsule of glumetza in a glass of water and tried to dissolve it. The outer cover (which is insoluble in water) came off like a plastic coat. Not sure what will these do inside if theey get accumulated without all of them coming out with stools. Can they stick to the colon wall and create any problems?

Good evening to all, Metformin ER is time released, although the pill enters and exits whole it is being released and enters the bloodstream as it should. I was also worried when I turned to see two beans floating in my porcelain throne and asked my doc. The pill is simply a vessel for the med that is absorbed and once absorbed the vessel is set to sail.

Hello to anyone who may read this. I have been having the same problem for quite a while. I have also had many problems with my health. When I started to get them I freaked and went and had it tested. I found out that mine is vegetable matter. I get them in many colors, but always the same size and shape. I do take metaformin and a few other medications. I just want to know why my body isn't digesting vegetables properly. I was wondering if that could be anyone elses problem.
